For those looking to explore the island, we are half-way between the beautiful beaches of Poipu and the spectacular scenery of the North Shore. Our central location makes exploring the island a breeze as you spend less time driving and more time experiencing the beauty of Kauai.

Aloha!! Welcome to our 'home away from home' on the beautiful island of Kauai. We purchased our home on our 4th trip to Kauai with the hopes of one day retiring to this beautiful island. Unfortunately, we are several years from retirement bliss so we are only able to spend a few weeks a year enjoying the condo. This, however, has presented a great opportunity for us to share our home with you. We are very lucky to have met some great people in Kauai who make sure the condo is in perfect condition for you when you arrive.
We strive to provide a fantastic place to stay at a reasonable cost and the comments from past guests confirm that we are doing just that. Our condo offers all the amenities that you will find at home plus an unforgetable view of the ocean and a fabulous resort. We purchased our condo on the East side of the island for several reasons:
(1) Proximity to the water. We truly are as close to the water as you can get on Kauai.
The pictures on the website are from our actual condo and our lanai. You can see
the ocean from almost every room.
(2) Location. We love to explore all that Kauai has to offer and our central location
allows us to get to either end of the island in about 40 minutes. The East side also
offers the majority of the restaurants and shopping in Kauai. We both love to eat
and the variety (and quality) of food available close to the condo is outstanding. It
also eliminates the stress of driving at night on the island.
(3) Resort amenities - The resort offers all that you would expect and more. We have a
big pool with hottub and saunas, two tennis courts, volleyball courts, shuffleboard,
golf putting greens, and horseshoes. We also have a herb garden, several private
BBQ areas, a fitness room, and a full-service activities desk. If you want to stay
close to home, it's a fantastic place to spend time and of course the ocean/beach
are only a few steps away.
OCEANFRONT!!! We love waking up in the morning and seeing the turquoise blue water glistening in the morning sunlight. We spend every morning eating breakfast on the lanai and every evening watching the moonlight dance on the water. I can't imagine travelling all the way to Hawaii and not staying next to the ocean!
Our location is truly oceanfront with only 50 yards of beach and grass between us and the water. Unlike Princeville, where almost all the condos are up on a bluff (thus requiring either a hike down a steep hill or a drive to the beach), we have a quick easy walk to the beach and water.
My husband and I stayed at this condo for 10 days in October, 2008. The apartment was tastefully decorated, extremely comfortable, and very private. The owners had anticipated our every need including a blender for daily "smoothies" in a fully-equipped kitchen, a Scrabble game, internet access, extra fleece blankets for cool mornings, and even guide books on the bookshelf. We ate many of our meals on the lanai, watching the sun come up in the morning, and enjoying the gentle trade wind breezes as they blew up off the ocean. This unit is really beachfront, with nothing between you and the Pacific but a walking trail (which we also used every day). We swam in the pool every day, as well as in the ocean right in front of our room. The Pono Kai concierge gave us a list of where the Farmers' Markets would be, and we shopped every day for fresh fruit and vegetables. We would highly recommend this condo, and plan to return. What an amazing space to experience the tropical paradise of Kauai!
We have enjoyed the days in the flat very much. The equipment corresponded to the pictures on the Internet. It was everything available what one for a vacation needs. The sea look of the balcony is unaffordable. The Resort is very quiet. The contact with Kevin is trouble-free.

We loved our stay at Kevin and Angela's condo! It was everything it appears to be. The view and closeness to the ocean is amazing! We had four adults there on a girl's trip for a week. The condo contained all the kitchen amenities we needed. There were boogie boards, beach chairs, beach towels and straw mats for laying on the beach, and a putter, tennis rackets for the putting green down below the condo and tennis courts on the grounds. The location in Kaapa was central to the north -Napali coast hiking, and south -Poipu beach(which has beautiful clear water to swim and snorkel in and soft sand to relax on). A couple restaraunts that were delicious that were just a few minutes drive from the condo were Street Burger, and Hukilau Lanai(this was pricey, but fancy gourmet and so good!). We loved listening to the waves during the day and in the evenings. It's not as cool as an air conditioned unit, but for the most part the trade winds blow through and keep it cool enough without air conditioning. This location is ideal, and probably the resort's best ocean view! Additional benefits of a 3rd floor corner unit was how quiet it is, privacy, and the ability to enjoy ocean breezes. Just about all of our 12 days we experienced unusually humid weather. The bedroom faces the open hall to condo entrances which is opposite the ocean side of the unit. An air conditioner would have been a huge benefit to enjoy the king bed. However, the sofa sleeper opened right in front of the sliding doors to the balcony so that is where we slept each night to capture some cool air flow and enjoy the pounding of the surf. Otherwise, the unit was clean, spacious, updated and well equipped. Overall I have to say it is one of the nicer units on property!
The condo seemed larger than the photos online and was very clean and comfortable. The view from the lanai was the best part. I loved being so close to the water. The resort had everything; pool, shuffleboard, tennis, volleyball, etc. and you can borrow pool toys and rent snorkeling gear for a very reasonable price at the office.
We appreciated having beach chairs, coolers, books and assorted toys, right down to the golf balls and putter for the on-sight putting green. You seem to have thought of everything to make your guests feel welcome and comfortable. We knew there was no A/C, and most people say that is not usually an issue on Kauai. However, it was hot and humid and rained off and on during our stay, so we were not able to have to windows open which made it a little warm, especially at night. The fans were helpful though.
Overall, I highly recommend your condo. I gave it 4 stars out of 5 only because of the lack of A/C.
Angela and Kevins rental is a lovely, charming and wonderful condo with everything you can think of. Kitchen is equipped with everything you need and the grills outside are clean and easy to use. The condo is more than well maintained and very clean. You can see it is furnished and decorated with love! Waking up to the sound of the ocean is the best part. Or was is the sunset in the morning?
The kids enjoyed sleeping on the pull-out bed in the living room.
If you are visiting a beach, there is everything you need. Chairs, a cooler, swim noodles, swim boards, etc...
The pool of the resort is small but very clean and we had fun chatting with other guests. Front staff is excellent and very helpful with everything you need. We will for sure come back... Thank you Angela and Kevin for letting us stay at your home.
We had a great experience at this condo. As soon as you walk in the door, you are greeted with a simply amazing ocean view. We spent many hours simply sitting out on the lanai and taking in the view. The condo itself was very clean and organized; it was perfect for our needs. The Pono Kai property is nice and very convenient to walk to many shops and restaurants. The unit came stocked with all the kitchen supplies we needed to make meals, and there are grocery stores only a few minutes away. This condo does not have air conditioning (which is common on the island), but the combination of the ocean breeze and fans kept the place very comfortable during our stay. Kevin was great to work with and very responsive to any questions that we had. We would certainly stay here again if we find ourselves back in Kapaa.
