'Cozy' Retreat at the Water's Edge

Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 4 nights

Overview

About the property

Cottage, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2)

This is your Maine getaway, the one you have been searching for! Perfect for the couple who want to experience the coast of Maine from the water's edge and not a cramped hotel room. The cottage sits on a large lot with its larger 2 bedroom sister cottage 'Lofty' (VRBO# 165589) about 200 feet away. Rent one or if you prefer rent both and have the grounds and dock all to yourself...sort of your own family vacation compound.

Just a few steps outside the cottage and down a gently sloping path is A HUGE DEEP WATER dock (not tidal) with large deck/landing and open ocean views. The dock is shared with Lofty Cottage. The is the BEST part of the cottage and a lot of fun. There is a nice picnic table on the landing so you can enjoy a quiet meal and gaze at the beautiful views. The dock is shared with Lofty (VRBO 165589). Kayak and or swim and enjoy your fresh Maine lobster on your own dock! (Kayaks are not provided) Kids and adults alike will enjoy pulling up the lobster trap and seeing what sea treasures are inside.

Water views from every room. Located on a dead end gravel road typical of Harpswell, a mix of local color, cottages and fisherman. This cute one bedroom cottage is perfect for relaxing on the ocean and enjoying the outdoors. Private yet only minutes from downtown Brunswick including Bowdoin College, the Maine State Music Theater, restaurants and shops. Fully renovated in 2007 and further updated 2017 this cottage features a knotty pine interior, new appliances and a full bath with large shower. In response to guest feedback we have added additional kitchen storage and work space. The bedroom was also redecorated!

The cottage has a comfy knotty pine living room with cathedral ceiling that opens into a small deck just feet from the waters edge. Enjoy your morning coffee or evening drink as you watch the ospreys dive and the seals swim. The living room has a small color TV with DVD player for leisure time as well as mini stereo with mp3 player plug in capability. The kitchen is fully equipped with all the necessities including a big lobster pot.

Kayak to Little Snow island or interior Quahog Bay (see link below for more information on the island). This is a very neat kayak trip. (Kayaks not provided, bring your own or rent at nearby facilities)

If you like hikes and are looking for a wonderful one, Karen and I recommend Morse Mountain Preserve owned by Bates College in Phippsburg.. It's a 4 mile loop that leads to Seawall Beach, the views are incredible and the hike is doable even with kids. For more information see the link below.

Attention Boaters....there is a mooring available that will handle up to a 30' boat, if you need to arrive by boat or moor at the house for the week. We are getting many inquiries from sailors who want to arrive by boat. The mooring and dock are available with prior arrangements and a small additional fee for use of the mooring.

Cozy is the perfect place for a quiet retreat. Compared to a hotel this is a wonderful value and a great way to experience the coast of Maine. To get a bird's eye view use google earth. Just click on the 'See All My Rental Listings'. Please e mail us with any specific questions about any of our listings.

Renting a private home is different than staying at a hotel. It is important to ask questions before you reserve and to have realistic expectations. We have done our best to describe our properties, however, guest expectations vary. If you have special requests or needs please ask before you reserve. We want to avoid renter's remorse or the old "this was not what I thought it was going to be like". In most cases guests never asked any questions!!!! Refunds at the time of check in are not permitted.

PS. Ask about our long term rentals...maybe stay the summer!

Thanks

John and Karen

Truly Cozy in All Senses

  • 5 of 5

Cozy Cottage is very aptly named. Sitting at the edge of a cove, this 2-person cottage has everything—sitting area overlooking the water, eat-in kitchen with stove, oven, microwave, and full size fridge. Bedroom is comfy with views. Great access to local (and outstanding) food, plus proximity to towns (e.g., Bath, Brunswick) within 30 minutes. Plus, not far to L.L. Bean flagship. Overall, Cozy Cottage is fabulous. The only drawback for us was having to leave after only a week.

Dick and Joanne from Vermont

Cozy Cottage is the perfect size for two people. It has everything needed for a a pleasant stay for a couple of days or a week or more. The water is so close you feel that you're almost in it -- just a few steps away.

There is a huge dock that is shared with Lofty (next door) but unfortunately the fog, rain and cool temperatures kept us from doing much outdoors. Luckily there are lots of things to do nearby -- shopping, sightseeing, hiking and of course eating. L.L. Bean is only a half hour or less away and we spent a day there going through both the main store and the outlet across the street. We would certainly recommend Gritty's Brewery for lunch in Freeport.

There are several excellent restaurants close to Cozy -- The Dolphin was excellent particularly their hot out of the oven blueberry muffins

We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Cozy Cottage to anyone.

Everything about our stay was a perfect 10!

  • 5 of 5

"Cozy" was even more charming in person than online! The owners thought of everything - fully stocked kitchen, wifi, cable tv, towels, linens etc. We lacked for nothing. The view from every room was stunning and the dock provided ample space for reading, putting in our kayaks - just hanging out. In just 20 minutes you can be in Brunswick for a movie and shopping OR on Bailey's Island exploring the Giant Stairs, having lunch at Cooks OR taking a drive down 123 to the Dolphin Marina for a beautiful dinner. We LOVED this vacation spot and will definitely make a return trip. Thank-you!

Very Serene And Cozy !

  • 5 of 5

This little cottage on the water is perfect for the couple who want to get away from it all !! You can sit out on the deck to just relax and enjoy the boats going by and you can do some fishing on the shared dock. We highly recommended going to Gurnet's for the best whole bellied clams and lobster ❤ , It's only 4 miles from the cottage plus there are a few restaurants in downtown Brunswick ! Now, back to the cottage...it really is cozy and cute and we certainly would consider spending another peaceful vacation week here 👍

Better and better each time we visit

  • 5 of 5

This was my fourth year staying at Cozy Cottage in early August. My husband and I plan to keep coming back year after year into the foreseeable future for the true R&R we get here. What could be better than falling asleep at night to the gentle sound of the water lapping the rocks just feet away from the cottage and waking up to stunning sunrises over the bay?

Cozy Cottage is small, but the space is very well used and the large yard and dock make up for the small interior of the cottage. I'm so impressed with the work the owners have done to improve the property. Each year, we've arrived to find improvements, whether it's new furniture or--this year--a big renovation to the kitchen and bedroom to make those spaces more functional. They provide all the essentials you need and it is a very comfortable place to spend a week.

This truly is an away-from-it-all vacation spot. Harpswell is a quiet place where you never feel like you're caught up in a swell of tourists, but there are some very good restaurants in town, too, for nights when you want to get out. There are many conservation areas with walking paths, and you can kayak all around Quahog Bay, stopping at islands and bird watching. We never fail to see some bald eagles when we're here. Be sure to bring some good binoculars!

Some tips for visiting Harpswell:

*Bring bug spray (those Maine mosquitos!)

*Bring some warm clothes. Even in late July or early August, nights and mornings are cool.

*Plan to eat breakfast at the cottage, unless you're okay with a 20 min drive for breakfast.

*On a clear, sunny evening, go to the Dolphin Marina Restaurant for dinner and watch the sunset.

*For lunch on a lovely deck over the water with a close-up view of the Cribstone Bridge, try Morse's Cribstone Grill and ask for at table outside.

The property is perfect for two absolutely no more just too small.

  • 4 of 5

The patio furniture not suitable for enjoying outside.....enlarge the deck. No instructions on dock usage did not feel comfortable utilizing the dock because of neighbors. Flatware needs to be replaced. Also, a nice addition would be a crockpot. We installed new shower head, non-stick cooking skillet and additional key so both parties have access to cottage. We appreciate so much that our rescue lab was allowed in Cottage. We kept her on lead and picked up her waste.

Owner's Response: Dear Hayden, Thank you for your review and feedback. So just to make sure other guests understand your review I wanted to clarify and comment on some of the observations. Cozy is advertised for a max occupancy of two persons. A floor plan and square footage is on the VRBO site so future guests understand that it's a "cozy" cabin. We always encourage guests to let us know if there is something that needs attention, repair, replacement immediately so we can take care of it as soon as possible. Not much we can do when the information is received in a review after checkout. The patio has a small circular table with chairs for two, perfect for drinks on the deck. We would love to "enlarge the deck" however, it is 12 feet from the waters edge and waterfront zoning does not permit this. There are clear instructions on our dock location and usage on VRBO's hospitality manager. There is also a wooden sign right in front of the cottage with an arrow pointing to the dock. The dock is not shared with the neighbors it is shared with "Lofty" which we own and is "Cozy's" sister cottage. Our guests know the dock is shared and it has never been a problem. Many lifelong friendships have been made on that dock. It is one of the largest dock and floats on Quahog Bay. As far as outdoor furniture we have Adirondack chairs in the shed, folding chairs, a large picnic table on the dock deck, a camp fire pit and the furniture on the deck.Wondering what else we could add? If there was an issue with the kitchen flatware or other kitchen accessories we would have been more than happy to replace or bring over whatever was needed. Over the years we have had every request imaginable from guests including but not limited to waffle makers, crock pots, special pans, knives, salad spinners, ice cream makers, cookie sheets, hand held blenders, you name it and we have done our best to oblige. There were spare keys available upon request just needed to ask. Thank you for installing the hand held shower head. That was a great idea! It is a lot more convenient than the fixed shower head. Thanks for staying with us Warm regards John and Karen
