This secluded, extra-comfortable and carefully maintained self-catering chalet — a perfect refuge in summer and winter alike — is hidden away in a corner of one of Cornwall’s most unspoiled and beautiful areas, the Roseland Peninsula, bordered on one side by the famous sailing waters of the Carrick Roads, on the other by the English Channel. Set amongst lawns and trees at the very narrowest point of the peninsula, with spectacular views over woods and farmland, the chalet is 350 metres from a wonderful but little-known sandy beach on one side, and 50 metres from a picture-book winding creek and its tidal estuary on the other. It offers perfect peace — but also proximity to a unique range of attractions, including the Eden Project, the Falmouth Maritime Museum, the Tate at St. Ives and numerous famous gardens. There are some excellent country inns in the vicinity — and a superb 7-day shop in Portscatho, just over a mile away, selling pretty well everything from apples to zinfandel.

The Roseland Peninsula: The Roseland is one of Cornwall’s most special places, a motley of sea- and river-scapes, woods and fields, lanes and churches, pretty beaches. Besides offering infinite scope both for gentle lazing and for vigorous pursuits on land or sea, the Roseland also gives easy access to some of England’s most exquisite attractions, such as the Tate Gallery at St Ives, the ‘Lost Gardens of Heligan’, and the miraculous Eden Project with its spectacular biodomes.

The Chalet: The chalet has been completely rebuilt and re-equipped to offer optimum comfort and convenience in all seasons, with its sunset verandah, triple-aspect living/dining room, fall-asleep sofas, Danish woodburner, ubiquitous radiators, well-equipped kitchen (with fabulous views!), two bathrooms (one en-suite), and a general air of calm seclusion.

Besides yourself and your belongings you need only bring kitchen/bathroom consumables, and linen .

In season is a Weber charcoal barbecue unit which is situated beside the front patio.

NB: Smoking is NOT PERMITTED within the chalet.

Provisions etc.: For provisions, the village of Portscatho (1+ miles) offers an excellent papers-to-popadoms, wine-to-widgets 7-day store. The picturesque resort of St Mawes with its medieval castle and sailing/fishing fleet is 7 miles away, while the chalk-and-cheese towns of Falmouth and Truro are both 14 miles via the ancient chainlink river-crossing, the King Harry Ferry. These latter towns both offer the normal panoply of banks, supermarkets, chain stores etc.

Just a quick note to say how much we enjoyed staying at your beach chalet. It was very comfortable and extremely cosy, especially with the woodburner lit. We couldn't have wished for better accommodation in such a lovely peaceful setting within yards of the beach — perfect!

  • Both bathrooms have heated towel rails - which not only warm the towels but also keep the rooms cosily warm. The shower in the en suite is electric (Mira Sport 8.5Kw), and thus fully independent of the general hot water system.

  • 1 double-bedded room; 1 room with two (full-length) bunk beds plus space for travel cot (provided) or child's lilo-bed. In the living/dining room there is also a pull-down double bed, cunningly disguised as a bookcase, with mattress, duvet and pillows ready and waiting inside it, and a small chest of drawers ready to hand. (We don't generally recommend using the pull-down bed on a continuous nightly basis as it entails moving an armchair out of the way; however, it is ideal if you have occasional visitors during your stay.)

The full-length, extremely private verandah is accessed from the living/dining room via French windows. What with highly effective thermostatic panel heaters and a Danish woodburner, complemented by double-glazed windows throughout and state-of-the-art insulation in all walls, floors and ceilings, the chalet is exceptionally snug in all weathers. Driving right down to the chalet is fine from circa May to circa mid-September — but for the rest of the year the topsoil is almost always too soft. The chalet is a short walk down past the other four chalets in this beautiful private setting.

Lovely break away from it all

The chalet was warm, comfortable and spacious. It was walking distance from a quiet but beautiful beach, also near the coast path and near a lovely walk by the river, culminating in a boat crossing to pretty St Mawes. It was easy driving distance to the Eden Project and The Lost Gardens of Heligan. The weather was mixed but the rain didn't spoil our time at the Towan Beach chalet.

Great spot and accomdation

We had an amazing week with our 4 year old son. The property is really spacious and in a great location. Nice and secluded however a ten minute (would be quicker without the slow 4 year old!) from a lovely beach. Lots of other lovely beaches nearby and other things to do. The accomdation is up a rustic track, the track is perfectly fine however there is also a national trust car park at the bottom if you would rather use this. We have a small low car so drove up to unpack and load and then used the car park during the week. It's a great spot and lovely place to stay and will definitely be back.

What a wonderful place!

We had most amaizing time ever!!! Chalet was very clean when we arrived and thanks to owners directions we found it in no time.

The views around are breath taking....wood burner kept as warm and cosy. Chalet is well equipped and nicely decorated. Beds very comfortable, bathrooms clean and tidy. The handy guide which we did receive from owners was very useful. George and Chez(the owners) are very helpful and professional.

The area is fabulous, we walked to the village by the coastline...what a views!

We would recommend Towan Beach Chalet to everyone as this is a great and beautiful place to spend holidays.

We will definitely come back!

Rightly designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Roseland offers a magnificent unspoiled landscape of woods, fields and lanes girdled by a shoreline of coves, cliffs and beaches made easily accessible by the famous South West Coastal Path. There are special treasures here like the round houses at Veryan, the ancient King Harry Ferry, and the uniquely beautiful waterside church of St. Just-in-Roseland with its sub-tropical churchyard. The quaint conjoined villages of Portscatho and Gerrans are an easy walk away (along a bridleway or along the SW Coastal Path). A little further afield are the chalk-and-cheese towns of Falmouth and Truro — the bustling Bohemian port and the graceful county capital (bring your own boat and you can sail direct to both!). The National Trust cares not only for the coastal strip but also for some of the area’s finest gardens, including Trelissick and Glendurgan; other no less famous local gardens include Trebah and the Lost Gardens of Heligan.
