About the property

Jackdaw Quarry Lodges

See Owner's website for more photos and reviews -

Boasting amazing views of the Yorkshire Dales, the Lakeland Fells and the spectacular sunsets over Morecambe Bay, Jackdaw Quarry Lodge is one of a handful of stunning eco lodges set on a hillside above the clear, blue water of Jackdaw Quarry, near Carnforth, Lancashire. Jackdaw Quarry is also home to the UK's premier scuba diving centre and PADI dive school. Guests have the opportunity, should they so wish, to sample scuba diving for the first time or further develop their existing skills (visit the Dive Site for more details). Scuba diving aside, there is so much to enjoy at Jackdaw Quarry 'above the water'! The local area is perfect for cycling and there are many delightful walks available from the door. Jackdaw Quarry's excellent location means easy access to the Lakes and Dales (e.g. Windermere is just 30 minutes drive away).

The accommodation at Jackdaw Quarry Lodges is simply stunning. Built to the highest standards, the property is clad in local stone and features a turf roof sown with wild flowers! Stylish and contemporary, the interior has been well thought out and beautifully dressed. Equally impressive are the list of standard features, which include discreet lighting, under floor heating throughout, a central vacuum system and satellite TV and DVD players in every bedroom! Each lodge has three good bedrooms, with one on ground floor level for ease of access, if required. The property has two glass fronted and covered balconies looking over the water, with a gas barbecue provided on the main balcony. Guests can enjoy an al fresco BBQ meal on the deck whilst gazing down on the divers below!

Wow! A real little bit of heaven

  • 5 of 5

Well what can I say, the lodge is truly amazing. When we first walked in there was a real 'Wow' factor. Everything and I mean everything has been thought about, Games, Books DVDs, extras for the dog and a truly scrummy hamper. This really is an out of this world lodge. Thank you for letting us stay in your little bit of heaven. We will be back!

Stunning property

  • 5 of 5

We began searching early 2016 to find a short break so we could all be together as a family at Christmas. We needed 3 bedrooms and for the property to be wheelchair accessible as mum is a wheelchair user with special needs. We also wanted to take our dog with us. We came across Jackdaw quarry lodge and it seemed to tick our requirements so we booked it.

As always whenever we book anything involving mum it was in the back of my mind all the time that maybe this wouldn’t be right or that wouldn’t be right etc. How wrong I was to worry about anything. This place is amazing.

The location is far away from towns and cities etc. with lovely views of the Cumbrian hills one side and the lodge directly outside the rear of the property. The water is blue and is a diving school so on the 27th we did see divers in the water which were fascinating to watch.

As you step into the hallway there’s a large storage cupboard a large bathroom and a bedroom all accessible for a disabled person (but equally perfect for able bodied) then the property opens out to a huge area of lounge and dining space (all beautifully decorated for Christmas with a huge tree etc) then an ample sized fully equipped kitchen. When I say fully equipped I mean it. We have been to holiday homes before and you always need to take pots, pans, extra cutlery, washing up stuff etc. Please do not pack anything there’s nothing missing in this kitchen from the scourer sponges through to knife block through to serving dishes.

Down a flight of stairs there are 2 more beautiful bedrooms, an amazing bathroom with a large rain shower and a huge deep bath and a utility room containing a washer (soap powder provided) a dryer, ironing facilities and even a dog cage, dog toys, towels and blankets for the pooch etc. We had brought our dogs stuff and took him out when we went out so didn’t need the cage etc but a nice touch for owners who do use them. The balcony covers both bedrooms and there is a hot tub there for you to enjoy.

We had a wonderful relaxed time here and wanted to rebook however its already full booked for next Christmas and I’m not surprised.

Thank you to the owners for a beautiful, relaxing few days.

Sad to return to reality!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I recently stayed at Jackdaw Quarry Heights and loved every minute! The welcome hamper and other little touches such as board games, walking guides and toiletries hampers just added to the 'luxury' feel of this lodge. We stayed for a long weekend and visited Lancaster and Sizergh Castle as the lodges are in a great location to explore the area.

The information we received from Graeme beforehand was really thorough too - communication was excellent and every question was answered. We had a great time in the hot tub watching the sun set over the quarry each night - it was so picturesque! The value for money is great too. We loved our stay so much that we have booked again for next year. Thanks for a wonderful weekend away!

Kirkby Lonsdale is in Cumbria’s south east in between the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales; an historic market town in an area of great natural beauty with riverside and country walks.

There are many riverside and country walks in the area, and historic buildings to see in the town itself, including the 11th century Norman parish church. While some market towns have become spoilt over the years, Kirkby Lonsdale and its surrounding area of outstanding landscape still retain the same beauty appreciated by Constable, Turner, and Ruskin.

Further north lays Kirkby Stephen at the head of the Eden Valley, a popular centre for walkers and situated on the Cumbria Cycle Way – a great route for all keen cyclists.

Less than half an hour’s drive from Jackdaw Quarry is the beautiful area of Silverdale - an Area of Outstanding Beauty, offering a truly inspiring escape from the pace and pressures of everyday life. Don’t miss the headland of Jack Scout leading to Jenny Brown’s Point. From here, look out across the bay to see Humphrey Head where, so legend has it, the last wolf in England was slain.
