Cottage Surrounded By Country Park, Close To Sea, Between Portreath And Godrevy

Bedrooms 3
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

Sleeps 6, 3 Bedrooms, 3 Bathrooms (2ensuite), Open-plan Downstairs W/ Sun Room

Pobbles cottage was completely renovated by an expert team of builders, carpenter, electricians, decorators and plumber, finished early in the summer of 2014.

Although fully updated with tall the latest technology and conveniences our cottage is at heart an old, historic cottage with thick granite walls, originally used by the Nurserymen who tended the gardens at the Great Bassett estate, now Tehidy Country Park which surrounds the cottage.

With painstaking renovations now completed Pobbles Cottage now has 3 brand new contemporary bathrooms (2 en-suite with the double bedrooms - single or double beds) a new third bedroom known as the Bunk room, equipped with TV and play station & Wii (for kids of all ages), along with a new hand-fitted joinery made kitchen, with hard wood work-tops, fitting into the open plan living room and separate sun/dining room. The house, inside is essentially brand new - retaining the cottage charm, but with new rooms, decorated top to bottom with new furniture throughout.

We bought our cottage (as we have family nearby) and know what a hidden gem the Tehidy area is, combining breath-taking countryside, but being only a mile from the stunning coastline and Atlantic Ocean. We are an active outdoors family with passions for surfing, cycling, mountain biking and golf (we are adjacent to Cornwall’s famous Tehidy Park Golf Club). The sea is only around a mile away (Bassett Cove) and Pobbles is surrounded by world class beaches/surf spots of Portreath/Godrevy/Gwithian. Porthtowan, Chapel Porth, St Agnes and Perranporth are also a short drive away. There are also many miles of trails, footpaths, cycle paths and lanes - within Tehidy Country Park, the SW coastal path and beyond – all beginning at our Cottage gates.

It is also a beautiful, quiet and tranquil retreat, surrounded by breath-taking countryside.

With a large totally enclosed cottage garden, (2 lawns and a large shed for storing bikes and boards) it is ideal for both couples and families of all ages.

Based in the countryside at the end of a long tree lined private drive, our cottage has great access to the rest of Cornwall and is 10-15 minute drive from St Agnes and 20 minutes from Truro and St. Ives – Cornwall’s 3 finest towns.

This is our only cottage and we have done our best to create a stylish and comfortable home, with a touch of luxury, although we really bought it because of its special location.

The cottage has a brand new central heating system, along with wood burner, 3 newly installed modern bathrooms (2 showers, 1 bath), new painted hand-made wood shaker style kitchen, integrated dishwasher, integrated fridge, freezer, Nespresso machine, washing machine, new boutique-style decorations and furniture (sofas, armchairs and new dining suite for 6), large outside deck with teak table and chairs, BBQ, painted floor boards with quarry tiles throughout.

Pobbles Cottage has plenty of parking with private parking for 2 cars next to the garden and 3+ cars on the gravel drive leading to the house.

Thank you for looking and reading this far!

About Neill or Sally Fry

We are a family of four living in Bristol and bought Pobbles to be closer to our Cornwall based family and enjoy the fantastic beaches, wildlife and countryside this area offers. We love relaxing, surfing and being on the beach (Godrevy is world class in all respects), cycling and golf.

Neill or Sally Fry purchased this cottage in 2013

Why Neill or Sally Fry chose Camborne, Redruth & Hayle

Pobbles is a great place to get away from it all. It is located in a wonderful hidden gem called Tehidy, the old estate park for what was at one time the 4th richest family in this country and now Tehidy Country Park and surrounding land. It is an attractive cottage, fitted out to a high specification, within a large cottage garden. Whilst we have our favorite beaches close by (Godrevy, Gwithian, Bassetts Cove, Chapel Porth, Portreath, Porthtowan, Trevaunce Cove) there are many places to visit nearby.

What makes this cottage unique

Unique soft countryside, beside rugged and stunning Atlantic coast - the best beaches, peace and quiet.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Everything is great with the house, thanks Neill. We are having a fantastic holiday and your house is lovely!

Perfect cottage for our family holiday

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at Pobbles cottage. The location of the cottage is excellent - nice and peaceful when you want to sit and relax in the garden, but so close to the coast as well as the A30 so it is really easy to get around. Being able to walk in just a few minutes to the Tehidy Country Park is a bonus too. We would definitely recommend this cottage.

Spacious, quiet, near the North Cornwall coastal footpath.

  • 5 of 5

Set surrounded by Tehidy Golf course (Cottage is opposite GC entrance), Tehidy Country Park and farmland this family home is a gem. 3 en-suite bedrooms with top class fittings you will be delighted with this holiday home. We spent Christmas here and had a wonderful time, walking the woods along the North Coast Footpath and short trips to the wonderful sandy beaches of Portreath and Gwithian famed for its good surfing.

The wood burner made it really cosy this is backed up by a good oil fired CH. The property is well maintained and has adequate parking for two or three cars .Supermarkets are within easy reach and the main A30 is within a couple of miles making journey times very good.

If using satnav would advise using Goole Earth Grid references as the driveway to the golf club is indistinct and difficult to see if arriving in the dark. Use grid ref 50deg 14min 39.6 sec N and 5deg 17min 28.16sec and make sure you are turning into the correct lane off COT road not South Drive. It may be easier to ignore satnav for last few miles and go direct to Portreath, up the hill towards Illogan, take the LH fork at the top of the hill and Golf club is about a mile from Portreath on yr Right.

Wonderful Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful Cottage with all the facilities you need, all in good working order. Owner was very good with communications. Lovely garden with nice walks on the door step. Godrevy café, which is dog friendly, at the entrance to the beach and the food is great only 5 min drive. Will definitely be returning here again. Thank You Neill for a lovely stay.

Nice cosy cottage but problem with filthy toilets with yellowish underneath flaps, filthy brushs are cover in brownish. All bedrooms floor are covered very thick dust and dead flys laid along around the window shelf at dining room also bottom of stair handrail. What a shame.

Owner's Response: Dear David As you know with our contact with you before, during and after your stay we take a real pride in our cottage and in trying to ensure our guests have a good time. I have also tried to contact you after I read the post, but have not heard? Just a thought, but is there some remaining frustration that Homeaway were not able to issue with the duplicate invoices? Or disappointment that the other guests did not arrive? I have to say you do have a point with the flies – it was an unusually warm that week and preventing them flying around the warm conservatory windows, with all the sunshine coming in, was a bit of a battle. Sorry for this – we now spend extra time on cleaning the area around the blinds and have had no problems since. Saying that I have to say though that Pobbles Cottage was certainly not as you described either on the day you arrived or when you left on the following Saturday. By chance I did happen to be at our cottage the Saturday you left, when our house keeper was also cleaning. Did you clean the house yourselves? Because if not then your brief description does not seem to tie up with what I found. Or indeed all other reviews and guest feedback over the last 3 years. If you recall we did contact you during the stay (stormy weather) and right at the end (to check all OK) and you said all was good and had had a nice time. Perhaps you would like to return one of my messages and we can clear this up? Kind regards Neill Fry

Lovely setting, close to the beach

  • 4 of 5

An attractive house with plenty of room for our group of six plus a toddler. The third bedroom with bunk beds was rather cramped and better suited for children's use.The garden was lovely for the children to safely play in and we made use of the barbecue. The house was well equipped although we could have done with an indoor airer for drying clothes overnight.

The property was clean and tidy apart from some stains on the sheets of one of the single beds upstairs. Many of the handles on the kitchen units including the fridge were very loose. Plus some of the chairs in the conservatory were rather wobbly.

The owner replied promptly to enquiries before our visit.

We spent several sunny days at Portreath beach ,which is a short drive away. We also visited Paradise Park in Hayle, St.Ives and Newquay which were all within easy reach of the property.

I would definitely recommend this property to friends and family.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. Very nice to hear that you would recommend Pobbles cottage. You have also made some very good points, which we will address this weekend as we are now at the end of our busiest summer period. I hope these things did not cause too much inconvenience and we are very grateful that you have let us know - all will be sorted out in the coming 7 days. I think, quite literally the handles have worked themselves loose over this summer. It has been our busiest summer ever! Paradise Park and Portreath are both lovely destinations and there are many other beaches and interesting visits - let me know next time and I could advise on some of the other places, if this helps? Thanks again Neill

Excellent property in a quiet location; the owners will go that extra mile!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at 'Pobbles' for the 4th time at the end of May, that probably summarises what we think of the cottage. It is ideally located for the north coast, whilst you can reach the south coast in 30/40 mins.

The cottage is not the largest but it does everything really well, with three bedrooms and bathrooms, ideal for a family of four like us, everyone has a bathroom! The kitchen has all you can ask for and their is plenty of seating available, including a dining table.

It's really nice to have a garden, where you can enjoy the sun (if out), with a BBQ on hand, along with a decked area, with table for al fresco dining. The shed proves really useful for us, we take all four bikes, so they stay safe and secure, along with the cycle carrier.

The location on the golf course is quiet, apart from the 'ting' of players teeing off and easy to get to Tehidy park, whether it be walking or cycling. Sometimes it's nice to stay local and not be driving all over the place!

We made good use of Portreath this time for the first time, as it's literally 5 mins away and easy for boarding/surfing etc. Godrevy is an excellent beach, with a little walking involved - we the NT cafe for breakfast sometimes, you can't go wrong.

We all look forward to going to 'Pobbles' and some may think we're sad for going to the same place over and over again but, it's well presented, tidy, quiet, well located and the owners do all they can make it enjoyable. Neill and Sally, although not on site, make everything really easy, nothing is a hassle.

We'll be going back again May 2017!
