About Chris DeLay
We are a retired couple who live in Seattle, Washington when we aren't traveling and enjoying our lovely casita in San Miguel de Allende. We love our little home away from home and are willing to share it with guests who will treat it with care and respect.
Chris DeLay purchased this Condo in 2010
Why Chris DeLay chose Zona Centro
We visited San Miguel de Allende for the first time in January 2010 and fell in love with both the town, the neighborhood and the condo complex of Villas de Allende. When we had the opportunity to purchase this great unit we jumped on it knowing we will always want to come back to San Miguel with all its charm, great food and the warm and friendly people.
What makes this Condo unique
Our condo is in a lovely condo complex known as Villas de Allende. It is secure with a gated entry. The grounds are lovely and include a swimming pool which we love. A number of the other owners are ex-pats and all are very friendly and helpful and fun to get to know. The location is wonderful as it is within walking distance to everywhere but gives you more privacy and peace and quiet than in El Centro. The views from both the exterior and interior of the condo of San Miguel are a delight from dawn to dusk. The roof top terrace is a real bonus.

Loved San Miguel de Allende.
First time to San Miguel de Allende and absolutely loved it. Our casita in Villas de Allende was perfect. Great location, easy walking to a grocery store restaurant and even into the city. We felt very safe with guarded gates and the guards were friendly also. Our villa was very clean and awesome views from both of our patios. Great way to wake up in the morning with coffee on the patio watching hot air balloons go by.
Great third floor outdoor living space
This property is conveniently located within walking distance of the La Comer food store, the central area of San Miguel and also to the sports center. The kitchen was well equipped with all the cooking needs you may desire. The grounds are well maintained and the pool area is lovely. The guards at the gate are extremely friendly and helpful.
My favorite thing to do in the afternoon or evening was go to the third floor outdoor patio where a portion is covered with table and chairs and a lounge chair which was great for relaxing, reading and viewing the city sprawled below. The sunsets were lovely from this rooftop area.
The only downside is the close proximity to the Libramiento a major highway and the trucks are very loud passing particularly when they use their brakes.
Have a Fiesta!
We had a great two weeks at Fiesta Casita. Chris was great to deal with and promptly answered all our inquiries both before and after checkin. Check-in was easy although we were surprised by the Villas de Allende's new procedure to keep guests ID at the gate house.
The condo was well stocked with cutlery and cooking equipment. We didn't do any complex cooking but did make eggs for breakfast and pasta and soups on several occasions. The nearby supermarket (15 min walk) has lots of prepared food as well as marinated meats ready for cooking. If one wanted to do serious cooking one certainly had everything needed to do so.
Luckily for those of us not used to living at a high altitude, the apartment is mostly a flat walk to Centro. There are lots of tasty restaurants within a 15 minute walk. You won't go hungry!
The condominiums are quiet and the few times we passed other residents we were warmly greeted-as was the case throughout San Miguel. The king size bed is very comfortable and there is plenty of storage space. The washer and dryer were welcome facilities as was the purified water at the kitchen sink. The weekly housekeeping was also great though a little difficult to predict what time on the appointed day. We used the kitchen balcony overlooking San Miguel everyday. The huge roof top terrace would be a great place for a party, alas we had no reason and the spiral staircase was a bit difficult for our tall selves so we didn't use it but once. We did enjoy the community pool even though the late July/early August weather rarely got above 80 degrees. Prior to our visit, we had been concerned about the lack of air conditioning. This was not an issue. Even on the warmest days-85 degrees, the condo remained comfortable (likely due to the low humidity-its true what they say about it being a dry heat!) as long as we kept the shades down. On most days, the temperatures were in the mid got upper 70s in the daytime and the lower to mid 50s at night....we slept great with the windows open and the ceiling fan. One word of caution, do not leave the bedroom balcony door open unless you enjoy mosquito bites. (no screen).
We recommend the Fiesta Casita to you and hope you have a great stay in San Miguel!
Spring in San Miguel de Allende
My wife and I stayed a month at Fiesta Casita from April to May, 2018. Day time temperatures were in the low to high 80s, with no humidity. The property is well maintained, comfortable and kitchen amenities were excellent. There was purified water and a housekeeper comes weekly. The clothes washer and a dryer were a plus. From the condo, the view of San Miguel from sunrise to evening was enchanting. Television carries both cable/satellite and local channels. We were able to watch the NBA playoffs live in the evenings. There is also a DVD player with DVDs of movies, etc. The landscaping and pool made it very pleasant.
There is 24x7 security and the guards were friendly but watchful. Taxis or Uber are available on request by phone. The guard at the gate would be able to help you call for a taxi.
We often walked the half mile access road (Jose Orozco) to the main road (Celaya) where we could take a local bus or hail a taxi. A walk into town ( Centro ) would take more than half hour. At the main road, there are many small restaurants/cafes and other shops but no large grocery stores. A super market is about another quarter mile away.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay at this property. We would consider this again if we re-visit SMA.
Comfortable condo but some problems.
We stayed in this condominium the month of December 2017. The condominium was spacious for one couple with a well-equipped kitchen, good appliances, pots, pans and dishes. The knives were poor. Very comfortable bed with great sheets and pillows. The two decks were lovely with fantastic views of downtown San Miguel. The staff running the complex were excellent. The security at the gate were helpful and always watchful. We felt 100% secure the entire visit. The maid, Ana, was excellent. Ana, who manages the office , was always extremely helpful. The La Comer store a short walk away had everything we needed.
There were definitely some downsides. The couch was very stained, so we kept it covered with a blanket. It was exceedingly uncomfortable. The barbeque was not working. I cleaned it for the owners but it still did not work. We had to replace the batteries in the smoke detector in the bedroom. The smoke detector in the main area was hanging loosely from the ceiling and nonfunctional. This was reported to the owners but no action was taken. When we arrived the Internet was working very intermittently. For three days just before Christmas we had no Internet or phone at all which was reported to the owner, with no remedial action taken her or by the property manager. I made two separate trips to theTelmex Office. After the second visit a technician arrived one hour later and fixed the problem. The owner did give us a small rebate due to this issue. There was no hairdryer on arrival as advertised. After purchasing one, the owners offered to reimburse us.
The 1/2 km. walk to the main road is along an overgrown field where the locals dumped debris, including a dead dog...not a pleasant walk.
We are sorry that your stay was less than perfect. Thank you for your positive comments.
We had not been informed that the couch was stained or uncomfortable prior to your stay. On inspection the couch was found not to be stained at all although since it was ultra-suede it can look different in spots depending on which way it is brushed. However, the springs at one end of the couch had been damaged so the couch has been replaced.
There were some issues with the internet recently as you noted until Telmex finally discovered that our line was being illegally tapped --only in Mexico!
A new smoke alarm was installed after your departure and the BBQ that was not advertised has been removed . The hair dryer that was advertised was under the bathroom sink but since we thought it had been removed we had already purchased a new one so now we have two hairdryers.
We asked the guest that stayed after you about the knives and he said they were fine although some needed sharpening which he was happy to do with our knife sharpener.
Unfortunately the cleanliness of the field and road outside of Villas de Allende is not anything we can control. Litter is picked up periodically though not as often as one would like.
had a great time on our first visit to San Miguel de Allende. this little unit is a bit of a walk or very short Uber ride to center of colonial town with great restaurants, markets, sights and gardens. Hope to return and will be contacting the host of this place again. nice to have all the conveniences of home for cooking, laundry, TV, Netflix, pool, etc. for such a reasonable price.
Within walking distance of the Mega grocery store with it's great bakery and wines. Our neighborhood features many great and reasonably priced restaurants.
