Enjoy Living With The Sun And Stars With Open Spaces And Elevated Views
About David Wornson
We are an American couple who have been coming to Sagres every year for 20 years. We worked and saved to buy or build a home. We bought this land in 2004 and built the house in 2009-2011. It was designed by an internationally recognized Portuguese architect, Mario Martins. We stayed here for 2 1/2 years to landscape the property ourselves (a work in progress), add finishing touches and enjoy some time off from our adult responsibilities. We want to rent for part of the year and use for family the rest. We hope to rent to adults and families who will respect our special home and enjoy the lure of Sagres.
David Wornson purchased this Villa in 2011
Why David Wornson chose Sagres
We think the location of our house is special. Most of Sagres does not have alot of trees or wooded plots. When we discovered this plot we fell in love with it because it had so much vegetation and was on edge of town. We come from rural America and loved the open spaces to the north and the fact that it is bordered by the Natural Park. We love it when the sheep herders bring their goats and sheep to graze on the adjoining proprty and up the hill. We can walk for hours in the park and forest without seeing anyone. At the same time, it is a 20 minute walk to the town center and the nearby beaches (for me 5 minutes by bike). The grocery store is just a 10 minute walk. There is a disco about 200 meters from us. It only operates the last week of July and August from 3:30-6:30 in the morning and they operate quite responsibly. It has not been a problem for our August guests but you can expect some noise. I am happy to discuss this issue if you have concerns.
What makes this Villa unique
Our house is not secluded and completely private. We have neighbours. But for the most part this property is unique in the Sagres area. It sits up on a hill with views over the village of Sagres toward the coast. Given the large wooded lot and our garden, it offers privacy and the comfort of nature. The night skies are black with brilliant stars and planets. Bring a guide to constellations.

The villa was very light and airy and very clean and well equipped.
We were looking for a week of total relaxation and that is what we experienced except on our first night where we had no sleep due to the noise from a disco approx 50m away. Thankfully it was only one night as the music started at midnight and finished at 7.30 in the morning. ( the owner had advised of a disco which ran from end of July through August )
The villa was within close proximity of restaurants and a large supermarket and also some lovely beaches.
Sagres has a welcoming breeze in the heat of the day.
Would definitely visit again.
Thank you for your kind review. You were excellent guests and we would be happy to have you again! One clarification for the benefit of future inquiries. As explained in the website overview, the disco, which is about 100 meters away, only operates during the last week of July through August. We never accept a reservation during this time, which sometimes extends to the first weekend of September, without clearly advising clients of the potential for the disco to open, usually from about 3:30-6:30 AM. The disco property has been for sale for some time and their Facebook site had no 2019 schedule or notification of events when I checked in July and August. The owner only advised me it would open "as usual" through August. When we found out they had opened on Saturday, Sept. 7, we were surprised. Their Facebook site had recently posted a "Last Ever" party and we then found there was an unconfirmed rumor the property had been sold and was having a last event party. We have not confirmed the sale as of yet. For future guests, please feel free to ask us about the disco which is also explained on the website overview. Thanks again.
Fabulous house in great location
What a wonderful holiday in Sagres.
The house was amazing and was close to all the amenities - thank you!!
Great house for a nice retreat
Beautiful house, very well maintained, has everything in the kitchen for cooking, very private garden. We weren’t bother by dogs barking like I had read from previous reviews. We barely heard the dogs one night at quite a distance. Not an issue at all. Since we rented in August, owner warned us of a nightclub opening in August only. But it was not an issue either.
Would recommend the house for sure.
Absolutely beautiful villa
We had a lovely peaceful and relaxing stay at David’s villa. The villa and gardens are beautiful and huge so even though it was only a 5 minute walk to the main road it felt secluded and private. Supermarket is nearby and so are the beaches. Easy to get to everywhere. The little supplies such as olive oil and pasata were a thoughtful touch. All toilets had toilet paper and soap, again very thoughtful. Thomas’s the neighbour who checked us in and have us his phone number so was only a call away. The weather was particularly windy the week we were there and when the wind is not so strong it’s a pleasant relief from the heat, but we are looking forward to returning to the same villa in the near future. I would like to thank David and Thomas for doing everything to make our stay comfortable and wonderful.
It was just great, it was perfect for us.
We had a fabulous time at this property. We were looking for somewhere away from the package tourist destinations and we certainly found it here!
David is a great host. Thomas and Daniela (neighbours) are wonderful and charming. The house is modern and spacious. We loved it and we went to a different beach every day.
The pool was fresh and refreshing, which was just great for us.
Cant think of any negatives which impacted is in any way.
Lots of local restuarants within walking distance. Thoroughly recommend.and we can't wait to return!
Family of 4, children 15 and 7.
Modern house with good amenities. The pool was nice in the heat. Quite a few dogs around the neighborhood barking every night. We walked to the coast and town and also had a car. We were two couples, so twin beds and queen bed in the two bedroom should be noted. Several patios for lounging with comfortable furniture. This is a pretty laid back part of the Algarve which we enjoyed. Good restaurants in town. Didn't use the TV. Internet speed was adequate with 2 people on at a time.
Our Villa was completed in 2011 and designed by a well recognized Portuguese architect. It sits at the northern end of a long wooded plot (3,600 square meters) with palm, eucalyptus and acacia trees. The garden is quite spectacular. There is large pool great for lap swimming,an outdoor grill and kitchen. There is a working farm across the road and occasionally you can watch the goats and sheep being herded with ducks and geese. Just north begins the Natural Park with a great hiking especially through the pine forest and along the western coast. This area is great for bird watching with all species of gulls, high flying raptors, diving swifts and swallows and the extraordinary sounds of the song birds. The night sky is amazing from the second level terrace. There is a discotheque about 200 meters from the house that operates in August. It only opens from 03:30 to 07:00, (3:30 AM-7:00 AM,). It is operated quite responsibly and the music/noise has not been a problem for us or our past family guests. There is no car traffic by the house. Contact us if you would like more information. Sagres is a unique destination in so many ways. Located on a peninsula at the south west tip of Portugal, it is surrounded by the sea and cliffs on three sides and full of the history of the Portuguese period of discovery. There are at least 4 beaches within walking and biking distance. Martinhal and Mareta are soft sand beaches usually more calm and perfect for swimming, wind surfing, sunbathing, and kids. Tonel and Beliche, on the west coast are spectacularly beautiful with high cliffs and heavier waves and great for sunbathing, kiting, and hanging out. Be careful of the undertow and only safe for good swimmers. Sagres has a long history of commercial fishing. There are many beach side and village restaurants, serving grilled fresh fish and traditional Portuguese fish and seafood dishes along with superb collections of some of the best and most affordable wines you can find. Sagres has a growing mix of young travellers, surfers from all over the world, families on holiday, carvaners, nature lovers and retired folks who never grow old.
