Wonderful apartment in Copenhagen

  • 5 of 5

This is an absolutely wonderful place to stay when visiting Copenhagen. Clean, comfortable, delightfully decorated, and filled with just about any amenity one could want or need, this apartment is a great home away from home. Location puts you steps away from a wide variety of eateries, groceries, bakeries, and public transportation, although it's perfectly possible to walk to most major sites as we did. No need to be concerned about safety either. The surrounding area can be very lively, but at night the combination of well insulated windows and the secluded position in the apartment of the bedroom guarantee uninterrupted sleeping. You'll discover that Birgitte is an excellent host who sincerely cares about her guests and does everything possible to ensure their happiness. Any return trip to Copenhagen would find us also returning to this apartment.

Perfect Copenhagen Stay

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely charming apartment in excellent location for exploring Copenhagen. Historic charm throughout, an exceptionally well-supplied kitchen for those who want to cook, and spacious living and dining area. Apartment can get warm on a summer day, but supplied Dyson fan helps to cool. Quite compact, but well laid out bathroom. Thoughtful to provide drying rack, ironing board and iron (as we did some hand washing mid-trip). A bonus was a library of travel guides to supplement our own. Steep staircase to access first floor, and watch your head on some low doorways (all part of the historic character). Delightful and helpful hostess; a wonderful stay! No hesitation to recommend to a couple. We'll be recommending to our friends.

The perfect place

  • 5 of 5

Combine a 300 year old canal house in a terrific location with a designer's renovation talent and her ability to forsee your every need, and you have the recipe for an outstanding experience. In addition, Brigitte could not have been more gracious and made sure we were well taken care of. We so enjoyed living like the Danes, buying our fresh produce at the grocery practically next door, grabbing morning pastries at the wonderful bakery across the canal to enjoy with the lovely coffee selection at "home" and even watching Denmark play a World Cup Match on Christanshavn in the sunshine with the locals. There's nothing we would change about this wonderful experience and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Copenhagen.

Delightful!

  • 5 of 5

DELIGHTFUL! From the moment we arrived until our departure we were welcomed with open arms by Birgette and Ava. The apartment occupies the 2nd floor of their 150 year-old home, overlooking one of the canals, in the heart of Christianshavn. Just steps from the Metro and bus lines we never had the need for a taxi. Bright, airy, spotless, and well furnished with all the modern conveniences including a full kitchen, books, guidebooks, wireless internet, and maps… this home is a treasure for the traveler. Even better is the local advice and suggestions that these two women offer their guests. We read one of their many books… a selection describing “Hygge” a uniquely Scandinavian concept used to describe a feeling of comfort, coziness, and contentment. Well that is the best description of the Douglas apartment—perfectly Hygge. The human connection provided by Birgette and Ava helped us become Danes for a few days. If you are searching the reviews (as we did) hoping to minimize the uncertainty that comes from renting an unfamiliar apartment, rest assured you can trust the Douglas apartment.

Wonderful in every way. Comfy, great location, well stocked with everything you need, great host

  • 5 of 5

The property is landmarked, so it’s a real privilege to stay in it. It’s also quite unique (in an interesting way). All our Danish friends loved it too. It’s nicely located—an easy walk to the university and equally easy to downtown. It looks out on a canal, so fun to watch the boats float by. The train station is directly across the canal and both subway lines stop there, so you can use the train to get to the airport and everywhere else too. Lots of fantastic restaurants close by. Also bakeries and three grocery stores, so you can easily use the excellent facilities to cook. The furnishings are truly lovely—antiques mixed with modern pieces, art, other collectibles. The bedding, towels, bathrobes, etc are great. The host could not be nicer or more fun to talk to. We’ve stayed in many places over the years, this was the best ever.
