Peace and tranquility in Naxos
This property is simply amazing. Especially amazing if you enjoy absolute quiet (except for waves, wind and the occasional sheep bell). The house itself is picturesque and comfortable. There is nothing missing. It is large, generous and has an incredible attention to detail.
The owners are extremely welcoming and very responsive to any questions.
Our time here was absolutely perfect!
a lovely location with beautiful views
The Alpha Mu beach house has a perfectly quiet setting with beautiful views of the coastal rock formations and the outlying islands. The only noises of civilization that intrude are those of the local fishing boats. Watching these boats return to port every morning as the sun rises allows one to experience a bit of the rhythm of island life.
The beach in front of Alpha Mu is visited occasionally by the locals, but early in the morning and late in the evening is essentially a private beach. The water is crystal clear, and, in mid-September, quite warm.
The organic garden produces delicious fruits and vegetables. Even in mid-September, there were just-ripening tomatoes, peppers, cantaloupes, and grapes. The house is well-equipped for cooking meals, which are enhanced by those beautiful views.
Although Naxos offers many things to see and do, the Alpha Mu house tempts one to just enjoy life on the quiet side of the island.
Idyllic location, peaceful and quiet with a wonderful beach just steps away.
The house and the location is even more wonderful than in the pictures!
Dimitri was really helpful and made our stay very easy and comfortable.
All in all we had a really great time and already wish to go back there :)
A marvel of a holiday home!
Words, however well chosen, cannot really do justice to the intensity of our happiness over being able to spend our family retreat in this marvel of a holiday home. The location of the house, the views it offers, the garden that surrounds it, the mixture of natural materials used in its construction, the rustical charme of the place - all this and much more cast its powerful spell on every member of our three generational family the moment we arrived and will remain engraved in our memories for the time to come. And happy memories will they be - the memories of a kind and personal welcome by Katerina, the sound of breaking waves and refreshing wind, the picturesque vistas enjoyed over our meals in the dining room or evenings spent on the terrace, the sense of being privileged by staying in this oasis at the remote edge of the island... We like the things to move, to change, but this house has made us leave with the desire to return and to savour its pleasures again.
The most precious little house...we were txo families, the children just adored jumping into the sea, snorkeling and having fun! Just perfect, very sad to leave....but we will be back!!
Alpha Mu, as the house is called, is located on the little populated east coast of Naxos. The coast is a bit rough but not touristic at all. It is 1.5km to the little village of Moutsouna which has a mini market and 2 taverns nicely located at the sea. And that's pretty much it in terms of infrastructure at the east coast. Don't expect to find a gas station, a supermarket or a butcher. For this, you need to drive up a curvy road to Aperathos (30 mins) or Filoti (40 mins).
You reach Alpha Mu after over a stony dirt road after 1.5km from the street. The house is wonderfully located on top of a rock with a stunning view to the sea. The large kitchen/living room area has all windows to the sea and there is two terraces (one a bit more protected and one directly on the rock) all with this amazing view. From there, you go down directly to the beach (mostly stones, some sand).
The beach was promoted as "private beach" but it is not (private beaches are even forbidden in Greece). Some locals and on some days probably also a handful of tourists came on most days. While initially we were irritated because of the description and our expectations, at the end we still felt privileged to have such a wonderful beach directly in front of the house and mostly (in the morning always) it was indeed empty.
The beds were not super comfortable (too short for a 1.90m person) but the house was equipped with everything we needed. Fantastic was to have fruits and vegetables in the garden free for us to harvest. So tasteful.
Last but not least, our host was super responsive and helpful even if he managed everything from remote. We were picked up and greeted by a Katharina who prepared even a small welcome with fresh melons, fruits and a home made ouzo.
If you are looking for nature, sea and a silent place on one of the most beautiful greek islands, this is a place to recommend.
The picturesque fish-village of Moutsouna with plenty of local amenities (mini-market, restaurants, cafe, bars) is just 1km away.In a 10 min drive you can explore the beauty of the East side of Naxos and could reach the magnificent beach of Psili Ammos beach as well as Panormos beach.
The truly unique village of Apeiranthos is 15mins away.
