This beautiful house belongs to my close friends Mariano and Paloma, great golf fanatics who live in Madrid. As I know the house well, have had excellent experiences renting out our own country house in the Sierra de Gredos, and can attend our guests in several languages, they asked me to give them a hand with the holiday rentals of their country home. I am an art dealer in Madrid, of Dutch-Argentine-American-German origin.
Viveca purchased this villa in 2008
Casa Valdecañas is a beautiful, very large and comfortable house in a paradisical spot very close to Madrid. The resort offers a wide variety of activities for all age groups yet at the same time is a perfect place for relaxing. This house is one of the largest and best situated ones in the resort, at the end of a street and right next to the lake.
This is a perfect place for active holidays, as the resort offers many sport activities and entertainment, while the surrounding region is full of natural and cultural treasures to be explored.
The house was really great. It's very big and luxurious inside as well as outside. The view over the lake is stunning! We enjoyed our stay very much!
No falta detalle.
If you are looking for a 5 star villa in the middle of nowhere to get away from it all then look no further, this is where it is at.
Situated just outside El Gordo village, Isla Valdecanas is a peaceful and tranquil place where you can just disconnect, but there is superfast wi-fi should you need it.
The villa is immaculate, pristine in its presentation, and the furnishings are wonderful, so much so that you wish this was your own home.
The pool is great, and the garden space offers wonderful views of the island, and over to the 16th green on the golf course.
The hotel and its facilities on the island are pretty good, with the food in the hotel that we had for lunch being exceptional, however I would say that if you are looking for water sports here, you need to bring your own stuff as there is little or no ability to hire anything - well not that we saw, despite the guidance of the staff at the resort.
The golf course is magnificent, and tough, and definitely needs to be played in a buggy (well in August for sure), yet this course will present you with some of the best greens you are ever likely to play. The only downside of the course at the time we played it was that the green staff were putting so much water on the course to keep it green that it was saturated in parts, meaning the ball was plugging on every shot, but it kept you on your toes, and to be honest it kept the course looking wonderful.
It is a MUST to have a car, as you will need to go a stock up on food and drink at the bigger supermarkets, that are about 20km away, and then you can use the small shops in the village to top up on bread etc.
We were at the villa as a family of 4, plus 2 grandparents, and there was enough space to take that number again, and you still would not get under each others feet, this place is vast.
If I was to make a few suggestions for the villa it would be as follows:
- More sunbathing seating/loungers are needed if there is more than 4 of you
- An english resort and advice pack would be good to tell you about the area, and things to do
- Maybe an update to the BBQ, and some proper utensils appropriate for the BBQ
These are minor things, albeit if you want to get out and about the guides would be really useful, however the BBQ was adequate for us (we had 10 straight BBQ's).
All in all we had a great time, and if we were looking for "get away from it all" holiday again we would definitely go back.... :-)
The house is located in the paradisical Isla de Valdecañas resort, at 170 km from Madrid and closed to the general public. The resort sits on an island in a lake in the Tage river, surrounded by water and the mountain ranges of the Sierra de Gredos and the Sierra de Guadalupe. It offers a great variety of activities, ranging from the beautifully designed 18-hole golf course to boating on the lake, horse-back riding, tennis, hiking and biking. There are several restaurants on the island, and the closest village, El Gordo at 2 km, has 2 supermarkets. It is also the perfect point of departure for exploring the great natural and cultural treasures the area has to offer, from the monumental towns of Oropesa, Trujillo, Cáceres (Unesco World Heritage), Guadalupe and the Yuste Monastery where Emperor Charles V spent his last years, to the crystal clear mountain rivers and lush forests of the Sierra de Gredos.
