Stowe Log Cabin Adventure!

Bedrooms 2
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

Cabin, 1 Bunk Bedroom (4 beds) + Loft Queen Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4-6)

This is a rustic, but clean and comfortable living in a beautiful, one-of-a-kind, private setting. Perfect for people looking to enjoy the peacefulness and adventure of camping - a natural setting with NO running water, NO electricity, NO TV, but also want the comfort of a well-equipped off-the-grid cabin.

Our family lived in this cabin for a few summers and then a full year while we built our house and it was fabulous. It's not for everyone but for people looking for a bit more of an adventure: sitting around the fire pit, exploring the woods, swimming, kayaking, snowshoeing, star-gazing, reading, playing a game, or just more privacy and solitude than hotels or camping can offer... this is for you. All that come, LOVE it (see reviews).

The cabin, though feeling remote, is only a few miles from hiking, bike trails, spas, pools, skiing, shopping, theaters, mountains, and everything Stowe has to offer.

Here are more details about this wonderful rustic living experience:

The 1st floor consists of: a main room with kitchen and table; an area for your things; a separate bathroom; and a separate 4 bunk bed room. Above there is a loft that is 1/2 the size of the first floor with a comfortable queen futon. (Renters bring their sleeping bags or sheets or we can provide them for an additional $20 per bed.)

There is a short hike from the parking area to the cabin. In the winter, the road is not plowed all the way but a path is packed and a sled provided. It is 2/10 of a mile.

It has two gas lights for light in the cabin, a cozy Vermont Castings gas stove for heat if needed, a two burner Coleman stove for cooking inside and a gas grill for deck cooking. We supply all the gas. We have all the pots and pans you need and other kitchen utensils. We will supply the first 5 gallons of water. The cabin is thoroughly cleaned and prepped for each renter. It's very comfortable.

For a toilet there is a composting toilet in the cabin in a separate room which is very comfortable (not odorous) or visit the custom, artist-built outhouse a short distance from the cabin. For showering there are several spas in town open to the public where you can get a day pass and use their facilities (ranging from $10 - 25pp including swimming pools, saunas, hot tubs, work out facilities and clean showers). Many find this is a nice way to end the day before heading back to the cabin for dinner and relaxation.

It is comfortable and very charming. It is for those wishing a special cabin/wilderness experience in a beautiful, private setting yet with easy access to all that Stowe has to offer.

We have lived in Stowe for 26 years and are happy to give you any recommendations for things in Stowe that you are interested in doing.

For all who have rented it has exceeded their expectations.

We look forward to welcoming you to our little cabin paradise. Think of us when you want to get away from it all (yet have it all, close by, if needed). Karen

About Karen or Eric Nicholson

Our family lived in the cabin for a year when we were building our current house. We have a small farm on our property, separate from the cabin area, where we raise two French Alpine goats for our milk/cheese, laying hens for our eggs, meat chickens and three alpacas. We have lived and loved Stowe's natural beauty and amenities since 1989.

Karen or Eric Nicholson purchased this cabin in 2001

Why Karen or Eric Nicholson chose Stowe Area

This Cabin is a perfect escape when we want to get away from it all or have a different experience. Renters love the comfortable yet rustic living in the cabin, the beauty of the setting (skies filled with stars, the pond, wildlife sounds and sounds of silence) and the feeling of getting away from it all but having all that Stowe has to offer if they wish to explore it.

What makes this cabin unique

Quiet, solitude, family togetherness, laughter, fun, connection to the land, peace...

Guestbook comments from the owner

When we inquired about staying for a long weekend in November the owner responded that she wanted to make sure we knew there was no foliage left and that the weather can be unpredictable this time of year. We appreciated her honesty so that we would not be disappointed. We rented anyway because we just wanted to get out of the city and relax. Our cabin stay would have been wonderful regardless of weather. It is clean and cozy and other than a trip to town and a hike on the one nice day, we mostly stayed at the cabin cooking meals, playing games, laughing, reading and enjoying one another's company. It was exactly what we needed and more. Thanks for sharing and for your honesty.

Perfect Vermont Getaway

  • 5 of 5

The best part about this cabin is the surrounding area itself... a perfect "off the grid" getaway complete with a pond & kayaks/SUP to go with it! Thank you Karen - you were a wonderful hostess & we so appreciate your hospitality!

Awesome rustic getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our time in the cabin and wished we could have stayed longer! We were visiting from the west coast and wanted to have a camping-like experience with our 3 and 5 year old girls, and this place was perfect! The pond is amazing with lots of frogs and dragonflies, and was so fun to kayak and paddle board on. We also had a great time walking the trails. One day we even discovered a huge turtle on the steps leading to the cabin. My kids named it Scoot and considered it the best part of our adventure. Although the cabin feels super private you are not far from Stowe which is nice. We can't wait to return and make more family memories!

Great Vermont Weekend!

  • 5 of 5

We were at the cabin this past weekend and really enjoyed out time. The cabin is just rustic and remote enough to experience the Vermont wilderness while staying within striking distance of downtown Stowe. The owners were helpful and accommodating. At one point the toilet required some maintenance, and they were over in a matter of minutes to fix it for us. The pond is a great addition as well! Would recommend to all.

Clean and cozy

  • 5 of 5

Karen and Eric provide a wonderful place to stay. We showed up and there was a little mix up (completely our fault) in that we hadn't realized we'd be walking up to cabin. Karen was kind and quick to reply and explained there was a sled to bring up our stuff. It was honestly such a great time. They take very good care of the cabin. It has a certain charm to it- warm, cozy, and off the grid. I definitely would recommend renting this cabin from the Nicholsons!! Overall a very pleasant experience! Thank you so much for allowing us to stay!!!

Cozy getaway

  • 5 of 5

Fantastic place if you're looking for a rustic, off the grid getaway. The location is beautiful, and the place is very cozy. Super close to all the shops and restaurants in Stowe, but when you're at the cabin you feel like you're miles away from anything. Only thing we weren't expecting is how dark the cabin is on the inside, even in the day (we had to light candles even in the middle of the day). This is mostly because the cabin is surrounded by thick pine trees, but make sure to pack a lantern or extra candles. Overall highly recommended! Karen the owner even gave us a jump start when our battery went dead!
