Holiday home in front of the sea. facing south, with direct access to the beach, on a shore ideal for swimming, shellfish picking, practicing kayak, wind surfing, and diving. It is located to the south, for a maximum sunning. There are 5 bedrooms that sleeps 9, two bathrooms, and outdoor showers. It is located 10 min away from the main surf spots and sandy beaches. The house is ideal to have a sporty holiday or to rest on the beach.
This has been our family home since its construction, in the 1930s. Part of property still belongs to the grand children who live all over the world. They want to keep the family house as part of their roots on the peninsula.
The house was comfortable and practical for our diverse group composed of my mother, husband and our two kids (16 and 11yrs old) plus my 4 yrs old niece.
The kitchen was well equipped, we were able to cooked some giant tourteaux crabs from the Camaret "viviers", there were plenty of very nice serving plates and dishes to set up a nice family dinner and we really enjoyed using the grill outside to make those wonderful seaweed sausage and merguez!
Location is everything, the house is in a quite little gathering of only a few homes but only 1km from Roscanvel village that has a Creperie, 6km from Camaret, a little sailer's town with its unique charm. The rock beach downstairs from the yard and the pond just down the road occupied my boys for the 3 first days to a point that they did not want to go anywhere and I had to force them. Within a few km, through biking trails, lays all around the coast vestiges of military defense walls dating from the 16th Century, as well as most recent additions of bunkers from WWII. In addition, the peninsula is filled with beaches of all sorts. Small sand beach between two cliffs or giant spaces especially at low tide. Camaret is where you will find the closest grocery store but we found that the fridge is large as well as the pantry under the stairs so we tried to stock up once for the week and it worked fine.
The beds were surprisingly really comfortable. I was skeptical at first but I truly slept really well with no back pains.
The bathroom on the second floor is a little small and takes for adjustment but at 5"7, I was ok and could manage to wash my long hair. Also, the outside shower compensates a lot for the small upstairs bathroom. It is very practical to rinse out the salt and the wetsuits. It would be great if the owner made bath towels available, it is not practical to travel from the USA with that in your luggage.
The view out of our window was glorious and really help set the mood for the day. I like the floor plan downstairs with the kitchen opened to the dinning table. Blessed as we were, the weather was wonderful and we used the large outside table and chairs outside to take the "aperitif" and dine out after a long day of outside activities.
This place was great for an active family like us. It is rustic and solid with a tremendous space outside and down out the beach to play, fish or snorkel as well as good dining (Crêperie Le Korrigan) and/or good cocktails (La Rhumerie, Camaret-sur-Mer).
