Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday home in Alghero

A Charming Self Contained House With A Fantastic Private Terrace

Our charming and much loved traditional house right in the heart of Alghero old town. Recently renovated with a new bathroom and kitchen in a simple, rustic style. There are two large bedrooms, one with two single beds and one double (two singles pushed together). One bedroom has a balcony looking on to the street. The house is on three floors: its own front door leading up the stairs to bedroom one on the first floor, bedroom two and the bathroom on the second floor and the kitchen diner on the third floor leading directly onto a magnificent private terrace which has views over the old town and the cathedral. The terrace has sun loungers, a table for six to eat at and a barbecue. There is a washing machine in a store cupboard on the terrace. Please note that it is a characterful old house and you will need to mind your head on some low ceilings on the way up to the kitchen and on the height of some doorways!

The house is on a pedestrianized street so apart from morning deliveries there are no cars or motorbikes. But please note that whilst there are no cars, you are right in the heart of the historic town and as such there's a fair amount of general hubbub of the people going their way to and from restaurants and cafés. The amazing benefit of this is having everything on your doorstep - you may hear a jazz band playing in the square at the end of the road, or look out of the balcony to see a solemn religious procession pass by the front door. Equally there are a great number of fantastic places to eat that are moments away as are a great array of shops and boutiques.

The walls of the old town are a few minutes' walk and the nearest sandy beach is 20 minutes walk along the seafront, although you can have a swim two minutes from the house just outside the bastion walls on a small town beach mostly frequented by locals. There is a fruit and veg market and a fish market about 2 minutes walk from the house along with several supermarkets.

Alghero Old Town really is a beautiful place and the gorgeous house is right in the heart of this charming Sardinian town.

About Roger Eustance

We are a family of four and we fell in love with Alghero several years ago on our first visit. We live in Brighton, England but try to get to Alghero whenever we can.

Roger Eustance purchased this house in 2012

Why Roger Eustance chose Alghero area

We fell in love with the house as soon as we saw it, even through it needed total renovation as it hadn't been lived in for some years. The house is right in the heart of the old town, has so much character and has the most fantastic private roof terrace. The house is simple, but very homely, with a well stocked kitchen for cooking at home, which leads directly on to the terrace.

What makes this house unique

It is the position in the town which is so great, moments away from restaurants, shops and boutiques, the sea walls etc. And the wonderful roof terrace which is south facing and overlooking the beautiful dome of the church. There is no need to hire a car unless you want to go on a much further drive, as everything is within walking, cycling or a short bus journey. You can swim off the city walls just two minutes from the house, or a little further walk to a sandy beach. The people of Alghero are really friendly and we have been made to feel very welcome.

Great terrace

  • 4 of 5

The apartment is in a great location in the historical centre. The decor is simple but functional. The best thing is the large terrace at the top of the house, which is great to sunbathe on or relax with a glass of wine in the evening. It's only a short walk to the fruit and fish market, as well as the numerous cafes, bars, restaurants and shops. Roger is very helpful and if you enjoy being in the heart of things, you'll enjoy it here, we certainly did.

Alghero is a beautiful historic walled city and the house is right in the heart of the old town. It's great to simply wander around the ancient cobbled streets, browse the shops or eat and drink at an amazing selection fantastic restaurants that are moments away from the house.

The walls of the old town are a few minutes' walk and the nearest sandy beach is 20 minutes walk along the seafront, although you can have a swim two minutes from the house just outside the bastion walls on a small town beach mostly frequented by locals. 30 minutes walk along the beach will take you to the beautiful Maria Pia beach, crystal clear blue water and backed by sand dunes. There is a fruit and veg market and a fish market about 2 minutes walk from the house along with several supermarkets.

A 20 minute bus ride or 40 minutes by bicycle (mostly on cycle lanes) will take you to a selection of really gorgeous sandy beaches, national parks for walking and hiking as well as the fabulous Grotto di Nettuno caves, 45 minutes away by bus. There is so much to do in this wonderful corner of Sardinia.
