A soaring beamed ceiling in the main room, stone fireplaces, skylights upstairs and down and country furnishings all create a rustic charm at our log cabin in historic Colebrook, Connecticut, in the foothills of the Berkshire Mountains. This is a perfect year-round destination. Close to skiing, skating and winter activities, leaf-peeping in the fall, bird watching, fishing, tubing and swimming in the warm weather months. The house is located on seven private wooded acres with a lovely swimming pond and private beach. Except for your groceries, everything you need for your stay is furnished.
There are so many places to hike and explore in this area of Connecticut. Here we are doing the circuit at Burr Pond State Park.
Thank you so very much for sharing your exquisite home and property with us. It was lovely, comfy and cozy and the weather just right for fires, games and movies at night. We all decided that at least a week would be needed to take advantage of the amenities just on the property and at least two weeks to do that and explore the surrounding pristine environs. We hope to come again and stay longer next time. Very appreciatively, The Vee family.
We lucked into some great weather for a late August weekend stay at this Colebrook cabin. The interior is rustic and spacious with plenty of room to host guests and sleep. I enjoyed all the little notes left around various areas of the interior explaining the amenities.
The hot tub is luxuriant and relaxing. There are a bunch of board games stashed in various cabinets that we didn't end up making use of, instead spending most of the weekend outside grilling or enjoying a campfire on the beach area. The pond is a small, natural body of water, but adds to the exterior charm.
Overall, it was an excellent stay, and highly recommended to anyone wanting a country-style getaway.
The cabin and property is beautiful.
My wife & I had a great time.
Snowed on saturday night and we woke up to a georgous winter wonderland.
We toured a couple of the local wineries and we also took a walk around the area.
It was great, definitly will be returning.
My husband and I celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary with a two-night stay at this wonderful cabin. Everything was clean and comfortable. Labels for light switches and notes were scattered throughout the cabin to make you feel right at home. Although we didn't cook at all, the kitchen was well stocked with the basics for anyone who would want to cook. Our bed was comfortable, and there were lots of blankets to keep us warm. The great room layout of kitchen with breakfast bar and living room with dining area was wonderful. TV with cable and a DVD player entertained us. We never got to the outdoor hot tub or the pool and air hockey tables in the basement—a shame. Unfortunately, it rained all day on the 17th, so we couldn't partake of outdoor activities. The pond and trampoline looked inviting for August, not November. It would be a super spot for a large family gathering. I would highly recommend this property, and I hope we make it back for another stay sometime. Thank you, we had a great time!
We had a wonderful stay at this house -- much more than a "cabin". The lay out worked so well for my parents to have their own space, while the grandkids and I had privacy as well. Comfy, well equipped home, with everything you need for a relaxing time w/nature. Plus, we had more than enough space to entertain the rest of our clan that lives in CT, ...w/ things to do for all ages. Know that this house has it's own pond with a small beach, ...so is not the same as a "lake front" vacation home. It offers solitude & quiet, and lots of space to take advantage of that. Or, you can leave the house and explore this beautiful area of CT. We'll be back!! Thank you for a wonderful place to relax! PS: My son did see a bear the 1st morning we were here! I suspect the activity here kept them away after that!
The first time I stayed at this log cabin was last year for my 60th birthday during the worse storm CT has had in a long time. My family stayed and it was wonderful. After our stay in Feb. 2013, we all talked about going again in 2014. So we did. It was funny driving up the driveway with only a couple mounds of snow. We were so excited. Strangely, the Tuesday night we were there it snowed. Yes, snow on the ground and covering our cars. We just laughed. By the time we left, snow was gone. We had a lot of fun that week. It is such a comfortable place to stay. My son and his wife along with others went to visit a couple of wineries. We returned to Da Capo restaurant in Torrington which was not far from the cabin. Da Capo restaurant was SO good we went twice. Great family style option available. We had an Easter Egg Hunt for my two grandchildren and you might find a few eggs still there. It was fun sitting around, playing board games, relaxing and taking small walks or just enjoying the a nice fire in the evening. We sat by the pond and had a small fire. It was very comfortable, relaxing and we all enjoyed our time at the cabin. We just might go again next year.
This was our second visit and we are looking forward to many more happy returns. If looking for a nice, quiet area, somewhere to just unwind and let the stress of life roll away, this is it. The cabin (it is a true cabin) is wonderful, charming, comfortable and you can't help but feel right at home the moment you walk in the door. Whether romantic get-a-way, family get-together or a girls weekend you won't be disappointed.
The historic town of Colebrook is a brisk walk away. There you will find the public beach, a delightfully refreshing pond with picnic tables and changing rooms, basketball court, and baseball diamond. Of course, there's the Colebrook country store, one of only three country stores remaining in Connecticut. Nearby are four state forests. There are lots of indoor and outdoor activities all year round. Scenic drives in this area can be found on Route 7, Route 41, Route 44, and Route 272. Wonderful for autumn leaf-peeping or winter getaways. This is a very snowy area of Connecticut and ski slopes are just 15 minutes away. Antique and curio shops are abundant along with galleries, restaurants, and wineries. Family fun activities include go-carts, batting cages, a multiplex movie theater for everyone and dinner/pub movie theater for the over 21 crowd.
Other Activities: kayaking, exploring, skateboarding, bowling, hot air ballooning, batting cages, go carts
