A little slice of paradise in the Cotwolds

  • 5 of 5

On arriving at the Old Bakery in Boot Street, Stonesfield, we were greeted warmly on the terrace by its owner, Ros, who then served us her delicious home-made scones. The Old Bakery has been renovated recently and its historical integrity and picture- postcard appearance have been persevered very well. The cottage is furnished very tastefully and in keeping with its heritage; the kitchen in particular is very well equipped. Ros is a keen gardener and we loved her cottage and herb garden and the lush lawn at the back of the cottage - perfect for sitting with a book or appreciating the beautiful views over the village. We took advantage of Ros's extensive local knowledge and spent days rambling in the many quaint villages thereabouts. Our two weeks stay at the Old Bakery passed far too quickly but we hope to return for another holiday in the near future.

Amazing cottage and fantastic owner

  • 5 of 5

The Old Bakery was beyond charming. It was the town bakery until the owner purchased it and converted it into the perfect Cotswolds cottage. Exposed beams, original floors, claw foot tub in the bathroom, and amazing views. We were welcomed by a plate of fresh scones and a lovely note from the owner Ros. She lives next door which is perfect if you have any questions. Very convienent location

We LOVED the Cozy Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a cozy cottage for my husband and I and our two teenage kids. We arrived late at the cottage and Ros had it all warm and the lights on and everything we needed was there. It is very authentic, yet warm and cozy. The story of the Old Bakehousue is sweet and the amenities are lovely. We enjoyed having breakfast in the sweet kitchen before going out for the day. We ate in Woodstock, only 10 minutes away, and one night we picked up pizza and brought it home so we could enjoy the awesome fireplace. There were lots of games to play and movies to watch. It was the perfect jumping off stop to explore Oxford and the Costwolds. We had a drive from North Cotswold Tours pick us up at the cottage and drive us around for the day. Robin was awesome and we recommend that as an outing if you are interested in that area. We would definitely recommend the cottage to friends and would love to stay there again. We were so thankful for the great hospitality.

Delightful cottage

  • 4 of 5

I really enjoyed this property. Charming, cozy, well-equipped, everything worked, ambiance fully lived up to the photos. An excellent winter retreat. The village is nothing to write home about, but we appreciated having a pub and shop within walking distance, and it is a convenient base for visiting nearby attractions. I thought the cost was very reasonable, all things considered.

Cosy and comfortable stay in lovely country cottage

  • 5 of 5

We have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our stay in this oldy worldly quirky comfy cottage. The property has everything one could wish for - charm, character, history, country feel, topped with little luxuries to make you feel very pampered and well looked after (scents and soaps from some of my favorite makes like The White Company and Neal's Yard, gorgeous bedding and towels, extremely comfy beds, games for every age (massive hit with my 4 year old daughter), books, music, wifi, enough kitchen utensils to cook up a storm and to top it all up beautiful views and a real log fire stove.....). We loved the quintessentially Englishness of the area - in particular Woodstock. Many many places to visit and things to do. We came looking for quiet time, us time, and re-kindle our love for this beautiful country time after a busy fast paced year - and we found it! Thanks Ros for the hospitality and for making this place happen. Highly recommended.

Wonderful cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time in the Old Bakehouse. Well equipped, very clean and all in a beautiful setting. We were even greeted with fresh baked scones and cream. Maybe it shouldn't in this peaceful location but I know for some it is important: the Internet connection is excellent. We highly recommend this cottage for your next stay in the Cotswolds.

Stonesfield is a tranquil village in a picturesque rural setting with rolling hills, woodland and rivers. It is well serviced with its own Farm Shop, village grocery store, Pub serving food, Post Office and Hairdresser and garage. It has a regular bus service and is only 2 miles from a railway station.

If you like old, pretty and historical places it is ideally situated for visiting Cotswold towns and villages such as Burford, The Gateway to The Cotswolds, a charming country market town with lovely old buildings, tea shops and a Wildlife Park.Woodstock is a ten minute drive away and is a pretty little Cotswold town with Blenheim Palace, the birthplace of Winston Churchill and stunning grounds to walk in as well as a train to take you to a Maze and children's play area. Other nearby typical old towns are Morton -in-Marsh, Stow-on-the-Wold, Bibury, Bourton-on-the-Water.

Oxford with its famous University buildings, libraries, theatres and parks is a 20 minute drive and Stratford-on-Avon is 40 minutes where you can visit William Shakespeare's Birthplace, go boating on the river or watch a play at the RSC Theatre or simply wander the streets and enjoy the Tudor timbered buildings and shops.

Stonesfield itself is a great area for walking with the Oxfordshire running past the cottage and a lovely walk through beech woods and fields to a Roman Villa.

If you are a keen shopper then Bicester Village, the famous outlet shopping centre, is a 20 minute drive away.

There are numerous places to eat in Woodstock with a variety of restaurants, cafe's, pubs and tea shops and also surrounding village pubs.
