From its position above Paxos’s main town, the two-bedroom Villa Melissa enjoys panoramic views from its private pool and from its huge terrace. Views of the ever-changing sea between Paxos and the mainland are one of the great pleasures of Villa Melissa, another being the short walk down to the tavernas, shops and seafront bars of Gaios.
Villa Melissa is up a turn off the road from Gaios to Bogdanatika. A short driveway leads to a gate sheltered by olives and into a garden courtyard, festooned with flowers. From here a flight of steps leads down to the large terraced area surrounding the pool.
The house itself is on one level. The front door opens into a living-dining room with open kitchen, from which a side door leads onto a long, wide terrace. From here the panoramic views stretch across the glittering Ionian Sea from the Albanian coast to the coast of Epirus.
The main bedroom leads off the living room, looking onto the courtyard garden. There is a second, twin, bedroom also with garden view. The bedrooms have good storage and share a modern bathroom with shower.
Gaios is ten minutes’ walk downhill (15 back), so the town beach is within easy reach, as are the fast boats to the sandy beaches of Anti-Paxos several times a day. Small motor boats can also be hired from Gaios waterfront, a delightful way to visit other beaches and villages along the coast.
Villa Melissa’s owners, Rodo and Kostas, live in a separate house behind Melissa. Their daughter, Litsa, who speaks excellent English, lives nearby and works in Gaios.
