Better to be safe than sorry.
that the property was once woods and although beautiful and almost always quiet, neither the cottage not the main house is immune to bad weather, critters, power outages and other such country things. We certainly do our best to prepare for contingencies that are beyond our control.
Also be aware that your cell phone needs to be set for wifi to email and text in the cottage. The cottage has its own wifi connection as well as a landline phone with answering machine.
Although the property is shared with the owner, your privacy will be respected. During
summer weekdays, there may occasionally be mowing in the afternoon. Or gardening.
You will be informed if someone needs to come near the cottage. So keep the window shade up, relax, and enjoy the spectacular view .

Am an expat of Manhattan but grew up outside of Boston.
Beth Rinzler purchased this cottage in 1994
For years my family rented a tiny cottage in the area so as to escape the city in the summer. We began loving it more and more and making our weekends longer and longer. When we made the leap to move up full time, we chose this location
because it is on border of Berkshire and Columbia Counties, near all the bright lights, yet very peaceful and tranquil. We were hoping to find a property with one distinguishing feature; we never expected to find one with so many bells and whistles.
Swimming , canoeing, walking around the pond, enjoying the gardens, lazing about the property ,watching the hummingbirds skim past the flowers. Reading under a 100 year old tree. Listening to the trickle of the stream.
Fresh air. sipping that first cup of coffee outside, exercising on the gazebo. Yoga. Meditation. Slowing down.
We loved being at your cottage. It was just what we wanted - quiet, beautiful, peaceful.
Deb enjoyed the swimming in the pond and we enjoyed sitting in various parts of your property and just reading.....
The Cottage is in a beautiful garden of a private home in this rural area. The autumn colors reflected in the pond, only bird sounds could be heard. The cottage was comfortable with a well-stocked kitchen with all needed utensils. Bring your own food and preparation is easy. The owner is available to answer questions and make sure you are comfortable, otherwise you are on your own. A lovely retreat in a beautiful area.
We stayed at the cottage for a long weekend and had an amazing time. The cottage itself was perfect, an inviting space tucked away on a beautifully landscaped and well maintained property. Whether resting in bed or sitting have a cup of tea at the table, you have a charming view of the garden, grounds and pond. There is a private gazebo overlooking the pond, secluded and surrounded by nature. I had a truly wonderful yoga practice in this space, the grounds have such amazing energy. Beth was a lovely host, there were fresh flowers from the garden to enjoy and a great binder of information about the cottage, surrounding towns, restaurants, things to do, all of which made our stay that much more enjoyable. The cottage is in a great location, easy to get to Great Barrington, Lenox and Chatham. Great shops and restaurants in each. Beth's reviews were spot on too and we had some delicious meals based on her suggestions. It was the perfect weekend getaway. Highly recommend this charming little cottage. We will definitely be returning to stay!
The cottage, landscape and location were all great. The cottage itself was very clean and had all the amenities you would need for a short or long stay; including an extremely comfortable bed. The landscape was well-kept, private and the gazebo on the pond was a great relaxation spot. It is driving distance to several state parks and hiking spots along with restaurants & shops in beautiful Western MA towns like Stockbridge. Beth was a courteous hostess, responsive and available to answer any questions or give recommendations. Absolutely worth another stay.
From the minute you arrive you realize that you have found a slice of heaven. I was tempted not to write a review because I want to keep this slice of heaven a secret. Beth is a gracious host and is available if you need her and invisible if you don't. The cottage, as others have noted, is well equipped and immaculate. The gardens, pond and grounds are well maintained. The bed is extremely comfortable and the air conditioning kept the cottage comfortably cool. We spent a pleasant afternoon under the gazebo and swimming. We were so relaxed that it was hard to motivate ourselves to explore the area. We are in the process of booking another weekend!
My wife and I just finished our fourth annual stay, this one longer than ever by several days. We just can't get enough of the peace that this place offers. We are swimmers, so the private pond cannot be beat. The grounds are beautifully kept and afford many lovely views. The cottage is clean, comfortable, and surprisingly commodious, perfect for two. Twenty to thirty minutes away in any direction are charming towns and more cultural offerings than we could even begin to keep up with. (18 minutes to Tanglewood, where we heard Joshua Bell this year). And Beth is an absolutely devoted hostess, eager to make any improvement that will enhance your stay. Thanks, Beth!
We enjoyed a wonderful week in this beautiful, peaceful setting. Not only could we view gardens from our windows, we could watch hummingbirds dart among the monarda (bee balm) just beyond (with binoculars provided on the window sill). This is the perfect base for visits to Tanglewood, Jacobs Pillow, The Mount, Edna St. Vincent Millays' Steepletop home, the Clark Museum, and to regional restaurants.
Tanglewood, Jacob's Pillow,Kripalu, theater, concerts and Blue Grass Festivals, Country Fairs, Farmers' Markets, Antiques, Fine Dining, Historic Homes, Botanical Gardens, six great New England Towns to visit, and new to the area, even a nightclub or two, live music and dancing. Located on the cusp of Mass/NY.
