Overview

About the property

Ideal luxury property for those who love space, quiet and an historical feeling

The masseria is located in the very center of the lovely town of Muro Leccese and just a stone’s throw from the beautiful sea of Otranto.

The property, which dates back to the sixteenth century, is located in a gorgeous square in the historical centre of the town and opens out onto a large and private garden.

The house, which is built over two levels, can accommodate up to 10 guests and consists of two double bedrooms, one double bedroom that also includes a single bed plus two twin bedrooms. The house includes 4 bathrooms.

The property boasts a lovely outdoor area including a very well kept garden, an equipped pergola and beautiful swimming pool. The pergola houses a large dining table where guests can enjoy al fresco dining.

Two additional rooms with ensuite bathrooms, terrace, kitchen and one additional bathroom are available in a separate apartment in the same property and may be added for larger groups (NOTE: extra fee required).

Another palazzo with swimming pool is owned by same owners next door. Together they can sleep up to 30 people.

Muro Leccese is one of the finest towns south of Lecce, never too crowded but also never too empty (in the winter). Very safe. The sea of Otranto, just 10 minutes away, is one of the most beautiful in Italy. In Otranto there is a private beach with shaded area and a small restaurant which we normally suggest. Otherwise, there are many places that you can discover if you are more on the adventurous side.

The house is in a beautiful square which is almost "private" (our house takes the entire square front), and is 100 m. from the main square. In the vicinity you will find excellent sweets and cakes and some fine restaurants, really affordable.

No problem with parking your cars.

Please also see information under other listings published by same owners. Please also see reference under host name. It is in Italian but a translation can be provided upon request.

The house is full of art/design and has an elegant swimming pool, table tennis area, large gardens and stunning outside dining area for up to 20 people

It is very elegant, decorated with carefully selected art pieces, furniture coming from different areas of Italy plus some pieces made locally.

The kitchens are very well equipped with pottery and stools so that it is possibile to organise meals for many guests. There is also an electronic piano and guitar and a very good stereo to play music.

Ideal for families who like space and beautiful objects and want to offer their guests an ideal vacation. Also ideal for large groups, the Ferramosca hosts 10 people and if you add the other property called Bevilacqua next door you can reach up to 28. There is also a staff house with 2 rooms at the entrance of the Palazzo.

About PRISCILLA DARODA

We are family of four and this is our main vacation house. Though the house is large, we like to have it all for ourselves when we are visiting. We live and work in Milan. We have other houses in this area both small and large. Please enquire if you are looking for something different. We might have what you are looking for.

PRISCILLA DARODA purchased this villa in 2004

Why PRISCILLA DARODA chose Muro Leccese

We chose Muro because: it is safe, it is near Otranto (even in Salento there are differences between areas, in our view this area is the safest, more elegant, people are more friendly and the sea shore is world class). Besides, being slightly inland means that the place is fresher and drier at night in the summer, not too crowded also during spring and summer, but also not too empty in the winter. If you feel in need of shopping and visiting one of the most beautiful cities of Italy, Lecce is only 20 min. away.

We chose this property because it has a large garden that makes you feel like you are in the countryside while you are in the center of the town. After the renovation (which has taken 7 years) the place is now quite special: you will soon feel the atmosphere of the place!

What makes this villa unique

The location of the house is perfect. We are not on the water but, just a 15 minutes drive from the beach of Otranto. The views of both the interiors and the exteriors will impress the most sophisticated traveler. You will fall in love with the kitchen, the garden and the nice patiot! Some of you will not want to ever leave the pool area with the view of the church. Others will stick to the white long chairs near the pool or to the garden with under a nice tree to read and relax.

We have tried to add all the possible ingredients for a vacation 'our style': hifi, wifi, several fireplaces, ice machine, al fresco dining, art collection, big bathrooms, floor heating, 15 m. swimming pool, 2 kitchens fully equipped, five meter dining table (made by an artist from Rome), laundry room, keyboard and microphone. It is a verey relaxing place and quiet, the square is just a 3 minutes walk and it has 2 beautiful baroc churches and an old Palazzo of the Prince of the 16th century and nice ipogeo. In the square that is better to visit at night with the nice lights it has a nice bar to taste local pastry and nice coffee with ice. The restaurant of the square serves the best fresh fish of Salento and so you don't need to travel far to find local food. The town has everything walking distanze: supermarkets, pharmacy, banks, bakery and newstand. The people are very firendly and it is a safe surrounding also for children that can walk around the town without any problem.

modern and sleek bathrooms and two well equipped kitchens. Ideal for those who love space, art and elegance.

Gorgeous newly renovated 18C palazzo

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed as part of a larger group in this gorgeous newly renovated 18th C palazzo in the charming Puglian town of Muro Leccese. It is just off the central town square and hidden away behind closed door is a paradise of walled gardens and tempting pools. The renovation has been done with wonderful taste and comfort – strong water pressure in the showers, effective air conditioning, comfortable beds and even a commercial icemaker! The house was well cleaned and dealing with the owner was a pleasure. There was easy safe parking just opposite the main entrance.

We spent days by the pool and evenings outside under the stars. Mid morning we often visited charming Caffe Miron in the nearby Piazza del Popolo for coffee and their special local pastries. Sometimes we returned in the early evening for an aperitivo - on offer is an incredible selection of hot and cold canapes to go with drinks.

Cooking was easy after we were directed to Valentino Pedio Grocers a short walk away in via Salentina. Everything you could want including the freshest fruit and vegetables, bread, some delicious homemade prepared dishes and the best salumi and cheese. The best chocolates and cakes are a short drive away at Maglio in Maglie. I have never tasted anything as delicious as the chocolate covered fruit. Ever. I even brought some back to London to remind us of our wonderful holiday.

I can’t begin to list all the wonderful excursions we went on and restaurants we visited but you will be able to choose yourself from the information left for you in the villa. My husband found it the perfect place to cycle. My favourite was hanging out at La Dolce Riva beach club in Otranto. Great people watching, lovely lunch and an easy place to swim in the sea.

We can’t wait to return!

What a wonderful place!

  • 5 of 5

I had an amazing stay in Masseria Ferramosca , absolutely tasteful decorated with lots of charme. The fusion between ancient and modern is perfect!

There is lots of space and privacy for everyone . The outside area is also wonderful, so many different lounging areas with amazing views on the garden. We also loved the pool and the outdoor dining area. The rooms and bathrooms are so beautiful that don’t seem real . The house and also the kitchen is very well equipped.

The surrounding was very quiet and beautiful. Muro Leccese is one of the most charming villages in Salento (we loved the pastry bar, Ferruccio, located very near to the villa; don’t miss to taste pasticciotto !). We can really recommend this place and for sure I'll return!

'A palazzo in the centre of Muro - it is a secret oasis with a beautiful garden and a 20 m. pool utterly private once you walk through the entrance door. But it is only a minute or two’s walk from a busy bar with perfect Italian coffee, a great restaurant, bakery, weekly fruit and vegetable market and the grocery store.

The palazzo is beautifully furnished in a very cool Italian shabby chic style that I have come to associate with the very best design in this part of Puglia. There is something to find pleasure in everywhere you look, for example, interesting modern paintings, simple clean lines, an ancient stone bath, a l'oeil de boeuf window, a Romeo and Juliette balcony you can stand on overlooking the street, a view of orange groves from a window, a shady roof terrace and somewhere to sit out under the stars with your friends and put the world to rights. It is a perfect combination of ancient delights and modern comforts such as wi-fi, an icemaker and very comfortable beds.

It is worth exploring other charming nearby towns such as Maglie where you will find the world’s best ever chocolate covered figs (as well as apricots, dates, mandarin oranges – and fantastic chocolate semifreddo cakes). And the locally handmade orecchiette is wonderful. (Go on a Thursday when gnocchi is made: they were so light and delicious tasted raw we had to buy some to cook.)' (submitted by a client)
