We stayed at "La Cabane" (2 adults and our 4-year old), and it fit our needs perfectly as a place to stay at the end of our holiday in France. We arrived quite late, but were made to feel very welcome and became aware that we were the first guests to be staying in the cabin, so everything was brand new and immaculatey clean. We were shown around, and introduced to the many pets (cats, dogs, goats, even horses!) which our son loved. The cabin is in the grounds of the owner's house, but felt very seperate and private. As to be expected with any new property, there were a few minor teething problems, but the owner was incredibily helpful and put them right.
Inside, there is a small kithenette area with hob, fridge, microwave and dining area for 4 people. Workspace is a little limited, so don't try cooking anything too ambitious; we managed just fine once we'd figured out how to work the new hob! The bathroom is done to a very high specifictaion with wooden tub and good shower - I'm not sure how much hot water is available, we just about managed two showers before it started to run a little cooler. The bedroom downstairs is very cosy, a bit like being on a yacht, and upstairs is a mezanine floor with two single beds, ideal for kids. Our son loved it up there.
The decor of the cabin is entirely made of wood, some of it quite rustic, which gave the place a real connection to the forest nearby. I imagine over time, the wood will develop a nice patina and some of the sharper edges will smooth out, giving a lovely overall effect
When we visited in June, the weather was quite warm, so we didn't have to use any heating. The intention is to have a wood burning stove installed, which wasn't quite finished when we stayed.
The cabin has its own parking and is well situated for the beach and the forest (which is only a 5 minute walk at the end of the road). We visited Hardelot Beach, which was a beautiful white sandy beach and Hardelot Castle, also very impressive. It's less than 30 minutes to Calais, so well located for Eurotunnel/ferries.
By the time the next guests arrive, the place will be perfect and worthy of a 5-star rating, but for our visit, I'd say it was a very good 4-star and definitely well-worth staying at if in the area. I wish the owner all the success with the new venture.
NAUSICAA (CENTRE SEA) BASILICA NOTRE DAME, BOULOGNE SUR MER CASTLE, FORT OF AMBLETEUSE, Cap Gris Nez, Cap Blanc Nez, THE DOME, THE CITY INTERNATIONAL LACE ...
