About Rosie & Jerome Moreau

Franco-British couple Jerome and Rosie, welcome you to their family holiday home.

Rosie & Jerome Moreau purchased this cottage in 2005

Why Rosie & Jerome Moreau chose Charente-Maritime

We love the fact that the house is in such a quiet spot. This really is the ideal place to get away from it all. No busy roads, crowds or parking problems!

The pretty nearby towns of St Savinien, St Porchaire and Saintes offer authentic markets, restaurants and cafés.

For a day at the seaside, there are vast sandy beaches on the Atlantic coast with bicycle and surf hire and delicious local oysters and mussels.

And if you're not simply relaxing by the pool, the village of Port d'Envaux, five minutes away, is the ideal spot to spend the day with a picnic and a good book by the river. Simple pleasures!

What makes this cottage unique

We bought this house as a ruin in 2005. Only two rooms had been occupied, the rest had been used as a barn and goat shed!

We have renovated it as our ideal family holiday home - letting in extra light with skylights and open plan rooms. We wanted a contemporary, relaxed atmosphere whilst respecting the original stone walls and oak beams.

We hope you will enjoy the natural character of the house!

A place to enjoy

  • 4 of 5

This house, situated in the Charente-Maritime region, near Saintes, is very nice, spacious, comfortable and well-equipped for a company up to six people (adults); moreover it has a large garden with a swimming pool. Its surroundings are very quiet and it is an ideal place for staying "far from the madding crowd".

The sea is not far away and we enjoyed the food in some nearby restaurants. One certainly should make a tour around to visit some small roman churches.

During our stay we missed the availability of television broadcasting (the European Championship !) and the weather was not on our side. Nevertheless, this is a highly recommendable place to pass your holiday.

Fantastic property

  • 5 of 5

Really lovely, spacious property set in a quiet hamlet. We spent 2 weeks there at the beginning of the school holidays and had a wonderful holiday. Really well equipped, large kitchen which was lovely and cool on hot days. All 3 of our children shared an upstairs bedroom which was massive and had loads to entertain all ages. Great mezzanine area and lovely master bedroom (part of it has limited height) with very comfortable family bathroom. The pool is fantastic...we couldn't get our youngest out of it! Our teenage daughter particularly enjoyed climbing the tree in the garden.

We found loads to do in the local area...favourites included renting a boat in St Sauvignon, ambling around Saintes, Ile D'Oleron and Hiers Brouage. Loved it so much that we are returning next summer. Would highly recommend this property...just don't tell too many people!

The photos look great but the reality is better

  • 5 of 5

Wow! Our family (incl 2 young children) had the most amazing time here and were treated to true 5* self catering accommodation. The house was sensational, the photos really do not do it true justice - the children's room had a fab selection of toys, books and games. The kitchen had all mod cons and the living room was a great place to relax in the evening. The garden area was great for running off steam at the end of a busy day and the pool area was beyond expectations. The property was spotlessly clean and the owners went out of their way to text us pre-arrival and visit us to show us how the pool cover worked.

The surrounding area was very appealing with well maintained country lanes making for easy travelling to many interesting places, and lots of small villages to explore and find local provisions. The local people were very friendly. Our favourite days out included Saintes, Ile de Re, the aquarium at La Rochelle (go early!!!) and the local village Port d'Envaux with its sculpture park just outside. The miniature port in nearby St Savinien is a must if you have small children - our two loved it.

A gem of a property - we would highly recommend it.
