This renovated Scandinavian-inspired interior has all the modern amenities: shower and bathroom (bath essentials, hair dryer, iron), a fully functional kitchen (refrigerator, microwave, stove, dishwasher, coffee, tea). A large sofa, Smart TV, Satellite TV, Showtime, and a dining area, a reading corner, mini-split for air/heat, 2 Ceiling fans and 5 sky lights. A sunny deck on the front and a sliding door leading to a shady deck off the back. The house is under a row of tall cedar trees and about 200 ft in the garden area behind main house on a land of 4 acres. If you like to keep your exercise routine such as yoga or walking while traveling this is a good place for you.

Our Neighborhood—The Honey House is located in a quiet residential neighborhood called Sherwood Farms on the Southwest corner of Charlottesville, just beyond the UVA campus. The oldest buildings in the neighborhood were built in the late 1950s. Our street, Overlook Drive is a mile-long loop with about 30 homes, each having 2-4 acres. The unique location offers best of both worlds: in beautiful nature yet close to town, UVA and everything Charlottesville, Central to many major wineries and breweries. It has easy access to I-64, Route 29 and 250, but is tucking into the woods, out of sight and earshot of all roadways; and you can generally come and go without traffic delays.

Interaction with guests:
We're friendly and unobtrusive and almost always around. Let us know if you need anything. You may see us sometimes in the vegetable garden or the small apiary with bees all the way back. You may also encounter a few bunnies and birds as well as butterflies. You are welcome to herbs from the garden for cooking.

Guest Access:
Entire guesthouse, the yard and all surrounding vegetable and flower gardens.

Inside not Out
The unit is exceeding well done, well appointed, offers everything one needs to feel at home. It's beautiful. Getting to it felt a little sketchy. You enter the yard/drive by going past a run-down property with weeds and clutter, wondering where you are, as it takes a minute to see the unit down below. We initially thought we'd been duped, but soon learned it was tucked away and nothing like it first appears. The metal bed, small and noisy with every move, is the only thing that could use attention.

US History
We came to Charlottesville to visit some historical sites and chose to stay at Honey House. We made the right decision. We found the house to be clean, well equipped, easy check in and out, great communication with the owners and in a good location. The live plants inside the house helped to make it homey. Highly recommend 5 Star

Peaceful getaway close to everything
We traveled to Cville to visit with our son and chose Honey House because of its location and woodsy setting. We were not disappointed. The little house was perfect for us in that it was clean and freshly decorated in a contemporary style which was in contrast to the rustic setting of the woods and gardens around it. It is surprisingly spacious and we had plenty of room for my son and a friend to come visit us. We spent hours on the back deck which is not visable from the other cabin next door or the house. We hardly knew there were other renters. The only thing missing is a hot tub (hint, hint). There is a train fairly close by that does blow its horn during the day but it didnt bother us. The owners live on the property and were very accessible for any small need we had. We appreciated that they compost and recycle and they make it easy to do so. They even brought us a New York Times on Sunday and offered for us to have a late check out if we wanted. The location made it very easy to get to most places in the area. We walked the Monticello Trail (fyi you can't see house from the end of the trail, only the visitors center), ate at restaurants near UVA, hiked Humpback Rocks (30 min drive), and went to Pippin Hill Farm and Winery twice (beautiful!) We highly recommend this lovely get away.

Long weekend retreat
The Honey House was a perfect retreat for our recent trip to Charlottesville to visit our daughter. The property was exactly as pictured and described on the VRBO website. We enjoyed the secluded location that was still a short driving distance from anywhere we wanted to go. The accommodations were super clean and comfortable. The hosts were quick to respond to any questions and provided lots of information. We would definitely stay here in the future!

Rob, originally from Michigan, Lili, from Taiwan. We met in an office building in New York.

Why they chose this property

Rural setting with modern design and amenities, close to town.

County sales tax included included.

What makes this property unique

We're not sure the year the building was built, but we do know original owner once had gatherings here. There must have been many great evenings singing songs around the player piano, which they left behind, but it was still rough living. The building had electricity but no running water or kitchen.

In 2006 the original owners sold the property; what would become the Honey House was used as a storage shed until we moved in in 2013. We continued to used it as a storage shed, until spring of 2015 when we started renovations.

As of April 2018, only family members and friends have used the building, and now that after we've concluded the testing phase, now opening it up to the public.

It is no longer a shed; we feel we've created a unique experience with the Honey House. This newly renovated Scandinavian-inspired interior has all the modern amenities: shower and bathroom (bath essentials, hair dryer, iron), a fully functional kitchen (refrigerator, microwave, stove, dishwasher, coffee, tea). A large sofa, TV, cable and a dinning area, a reading corner, mini-split for air/heat, 2 Ceiling fans and 5 sky lights. A sunny deck on the front and a sliding door leading to a shady deck off the back. The house is under a row of tall cedar trees and about 120 ft in the garden area behind main house on a land of 4 acres. If you like to keep your outdoor exercise routine while traveling this is a good place for you.
