Guestbook comments from the manager

Dear Home Owners,

We thank you very much for letting us stay in your cottage. We really enjoyed it. We went on the boats and fished. The cabin was very cozy with comfortable beds. The lake was an amazing view. We ended up being able to see the bald eagle! That was awesome because we saw him go hunting into the water! At night we would make smores & hot dogs on the fire pit. They tested great! Thanks again! ;)

Winter Relaxation

  • 5 of 5

Peace and quiet and serenity - exactly what I needed. I just love the coziness of the cabin and the "beach side cottage" decor was such a welcome atmosphere in the middle of winter. I had the beautiful floor to cathedral ceiling fireplace blazing during my entire stay. If this had been a normal New England winter, I would have done some cross country skiing, skating, snow shoeing right out the door and accross the gorgeous lake (what a view). I'm a little relieved that I it wasn't a normal winter though, because it gave me the opportunity to totally relax. I had time to cook and paint (artist) and read. I imagine this to be a perfect cabin for a writer in the middle of winter too. Thank you to Rindy for providing a great escape.

Not Just Another Cabin by the Lake

  • 4 of 5

Today we returned from our long weekend at Rindy and Jon's. Our stay was just great and we will definitely be returning next year.

Rindy was super responsive and very non obtrusive. The coffee pot was on the fritz and within a few hours she brought us a brand new one. She was reachable by text and phone.

The cabin's structure is just beautiful (pine everywhere.) I adored the kitchen; plenty of plates, flatware, cooking utensils and the pots and pans are good quality (not the thin, scratched Teflon stuff you usually find at rentals.). The kitchen is large and there's space for you and your honey to cook together. We had a fire going everyday (LOTS of firewood available; a wood sling/carrier wood be a plus for the future, as would be a guest book where we could leave our comments and recommendations for the next lucky visitors.) Plenty of seating on the spacious screened-in back porch and in the living room. Our knees would have been happier if the sofa was a bit more plump, as getting up from it was "a process" for some of us, but it was super cozy. Also, this place is wonderfully lit; cabins can be on the dark side, but there was lighting available everywhere. This cabin feels like a home. Just the best!

The lake is beautiful and equipped with all types of watercraft, if that is your thing. Mother Nature didn't cooperate but we still got in a few minutes on the screen porch enjoying the view. Bedrooms were also cozy; full bed had a dip in it, but we made it work and all four of us, who are pretty rocky sleepers, slept great! I also loved the abundance of cozy blankets, cotton quilts and blankets that were available, as well as the fat candles on the fireplace mantle. The ambiance was just incredible, and it was so relaxing.

Also, except for the walk to the dock which understandably can be a little tricky, I would say Rindy and Jon's place is very accessible for older people, as stairs are minimal. Unloading car was a breeze!

We really had no complaints except one (which is the only reason that my rating is not 5 stars.) We stayed in one day when it was rainy, and 2-3 landscapers showed up with leaf blowers-one of which was pretty big and fascinated the tool-lovers in our group! So, unfortunately we had a pretty loud soundtrack outside until about 3:00. I realize the leaves have to go, but if that could have been postponed until our departure that would have been great, as the noise rattled our Walden Pond vibe! But...we will be back! TY!

Lovely spot, beautiful lake

  • 5 of 5

We spent two lovely days in early October at this beautiful and comfortable cottage in the northwest corner of Connecticut. Everything we needed was there, and there was plenty of space for four people and two dogs. I can't think of a more beautiful spot at the head of Washinee Lake. Waking up to the view of the lake and the hills beyond was special. We wished we had more time to enjoy the lake on the kayaks that were available for use. And our hosts were most welcoming.

The northwest corner of Connecticut is quietly beautiful. There are lots of places to hike, and the Appalachian Trail runs only a couple of miles from the house.

The house is in a remote, quiet area, but not too far from restaurants and shopping. There are restaurants in Salisbury, and several restaurants and stores in nearby North Canaan. It's only about two or three miles from U.S. 44, the main highway in the area.

I hope to return to northwest Connecticut soon, and I have a good idea of where I'd want to stay.

Gorgeous property

  • 4 of 5

We had a truly wonderful time! We loved trying out all the different boats provided. The canoe was big enough for our family of four and we went on many adventures paddling all over the lake. The view of the lake is beautiful. The house itself was cozy and quaint, but it could have been cleaner. There was a little mold on the shower caulk and I swept up some dog hair from a previous guest. Other than that, we enjoyed the house and property immensely and would certainly consider returning if we're ever in the area again!
