Second visit, just as good as the first.
We had a very relaxing two week holiday. Our highlights were Le roque gageac where we visited the bamboo forest and climbed up to the top of the cliffs from which we had some amazing views and St Cyprian which was beautifully decorated with thousands of paper flowers. We also visited the Grotte de Rouffignac which we all really enjoyed.
Thanks to Bernard for the tomatoes and figs and for providing such a lovely holiday home.
Lovely 2 weeks holiday in the Dordogne
We spent 2 wonderful weeks at this house. As others have mentioned the view from the house really is amazing and photographs aren't able to do it justice.
The house itself is well set up, and accommodated our family of 4 (2 adults and 2 kids (aged 5 and 12)), with the addition of a guest, very well. The kitchen is very well appointed, and easy to cook in. We also used the BBQ a lot. The living area is bigger than it looks in the photos and has a good sized seating area, both for eating and for watching TV/relaxing etc.
The pool is well maintained and was a good size for our purposes. We all spent a lot of time in it when at the house. The sun is on the pool area throughout the day, so it's ideal for sun bathing. There were enough sunbeds around the pool, with a sun shade should we require it.
There's swings in the garden and areas to stroll around the house. It's very well situated for sightseeing with lots of the historical places to visit and there are lots activities within easy reach. There's good restaurants and shops also, with a couple of very good patisseries.
Bernard was a brilliant host, extremely knowledgable of the area, and very helpful with everything. Nothing was too much trouble. He even gave our 5 year old son a ride on his tractor (which was one of the highlights of our sons visit).
We would like to come back to this house again.
A real find!
We spent a really amazing week at this house. As previous reviewers have said, the photographs do not, in any way, do it justice. The situation is so beautiful, with the pool set overlooking the scenic valley, in a wonderfully peaceful and private spot. It really exceeded our expectations.
The house is great - spacious, clean and well equipped. We are a family of six, with nearly grown up children, and we found the house a perfect size for us. The pool is a good size and spotlessly clean.
Bernard gave us a really warm welcome and was very helpful throughout. He struck exactly the right balance in being friendly and 'on hand', but allowing us our privacy.
The area is great, with lots to do - but we also enjoyed days lazing round the pool, playing table tennis or enjoying the really large garden.
All in all, a week to remember. Thank you.
Two weeks of bliss!
We had an amazing stay at this beautiful home in the most gorgeous of settings. As soon as we drove into the driveway and took our first look at the stunning view, we were in heaven. I said to Bernard, the photos just don't do this place justice at all. It is truly breathtaking. We enjoyed many a glass of wine in the garden in the evening and the kids spent the majority of their time in the fantastic pool-which is spotlessly clean. It is so peacefully quiet, I think we would have broken the silence with the laughter and squeals of delight. There are ponies in the field next to the house, a happy little dog that comes to visit from the neighbouring house (he likes a sausage!) and in the evenings little lizards can be seen on the patio...we were fascinated watching them!
We visited so many places nearby, beautiful Domme and its underground caves La Grotte De Domme, Sarlat-many times for food and lovely shopping, the chateau at Castelnaud, Beynac and its little winding streets. We spent the best night at the night market in the nearby village of Belves, a choice of so many different foods and live music. There is so, so much more, we just simply ran out of time.
The house and its gardens are a great size for a family of five (as we were), it was spotlessly clean and the kitchen was very well equipped with everything you would need. If there was one small thing that I could think of that I would add for future guests, it would be a choice of DVDs or books for the evening.
All in all, it was one of the best holidays we've had for a long time, the Périgord Noir is simply stunning, the weather was wall-to-wall sunshine, the locals couldn't be nicer and Bernard was the perfect, smiley host that allowed us to enjoy staying in his beautiful home.
We will be back, merci Bernard, a bientot!
We had a fantastic stay in this lovely house. As previous guests have said the photos do not do the view justice.
Beautiful area with so much to do on your doorstep inside and out, so even with a little rain at times in September there are no excuses for not having a great holiday !
Bernard is most welcoming as a host and a mine of information about the local area.
Can't wait to return...
Absolutely stunning view and garden
Perfectly contained and private, with plenty of space for our family of 5. Pool area and garden were great and well used by us (Photos do not do it justice!). Gite was clean and presentable. Overall we had a lovely holiday visiting lots of beautiful villages, eating very well, cycling, horse riding and canoeing. Belves night market was a great local find. Thank you Bernard for being such a helpful and friendly host.
Pétrou is a little hamlet in the commune of Sagelat, set in rolling farmland and woods with superb views across a valley leading down to the Dordogne river. Only 5 minutes drive from the medieval market town of Belvès with shops, bars and restaurants, a bank, pharmacy and a medical center.
In the heart of the Périgord Noir region of the Dordogne, it is ideally situated for visits to all the major historical sites ; the Châteaux of Beynac, Castelnaud, and Les Milandes and the beautiful medieval towns and villages of Domme, Monpazier and La Roque Gageac are all within 20km. Sarlat the ancient regional capital and Les Eyzies the national centre of Prehistory are at about 25 minutes drive away.
Locally there is lots to to see and do ranging from golf, horse riding, and walking trails to hot-air ballooning, canoeing and boat trips on the river. Not forgetting that the region is reputed for it's gastronomic traditions and restaurants. The vineyards of Bergerac are at only 30 minutes drive.
A metered charge will be made for electricity in October
