About the property

Comfortable, Traditional Self-catering Gite With Friendly French Neighbours

Excellent country location on edge of a small village. Detached homely cottage set its own grounds. Only two houses in our short lane, surrounded by farms but not isolated, as there is easy access to good roads for exploring. Our French neighbours look after the cottage for us so that the hedges are trimmed and the grass cut before the arrival of our guests. Mme Dufay cleans the house and prepares the linen and towels for those who are hiring these items, ready for use on arrival.

We are in the country but close to other villages and a lovely town called Falaise. Every time we go, they have made another improvement to the planting or roads or town square. Smashing people, very welcoming to guests and the shopping in Falaise itself is first class.

If you are looking for a relaxing break in a traditional setting, this could be just the holiday for you!

If you would like a copy of our brochure and full tariff, with booking conditions, please contact the owners.

The living room is a cosy comfortable room with a wood burning stove and two electric radiators, so is ideal for out of season lets and for during the summer months. There are two wine-coloured sofas, with an easy chair and foot-stool to match. Satellite tv with English free-view channels., which guests really seem to enjoy. There are also videos, CDs & DVDs to choose from. In our opinion, the garden is suitable for young children, it being flat and enclosed. There is a small children's' play house, for very young visitors to enjoy, as well as table tennis in the garage, for older ones, not forgetting the adults! There is some barbed-wire in the garden so very young children must be supervised at all times. There is ample parking. We cannot be responsible for any equipment which fails during a rental but we would always do our best to sort out any problems when you are there, to make sure your holiday is as comfortable as we can.

Warm & Cosy Cottage in Beautiful Suisse Normande

  • 5 of 5

We wanted to enjoy the beautiful Normandy Countryside, with easy access to the Suisse Normande, Falaise and other nearby pretty towns/villages, like Clecy and Thury Harcourt. We found this lovely cottage a perfect base for that! It was warm and cosy, well equipped, very comfortable and quiet. Thank you, Pamela and Derek, we shall definitely be coming back!

Great place to stay and relax

  • 5 of 5

This was a lovely clean cottage very spacious and it felt more like home than a holiday cottage. The wood fire made every evening cosy and relaxing. Falaise was just over 5 mins away with shops, restaurants and a great castle to visit. We found it was with in a comfortable travelling distance of many of the World War memorials and places like Mont St Michel and Monet's Garden. The owners were always willing to answer questions and did everything they could to make our stay comfortable. I would recommend it to anyone wanting a relaxing break in the French country side.

Great Cottage for young family

  • 5 of 5

I can not recommend this cottage enough! We had a brilliant family holiday here last year and I am only sorry that I have only just got around to writing a review. The location was brilliant for exploring Normandy. From the moment we arrived the children (8,4,3) were at home, due to the large array of toys provided, the bunk beds and cot and even the children's videos. Our daughter turned 8 on the holiday and learnt how to ride a bike in the back garden (on one of the many bikes provided here). The garden was also a source of fascination due to the many grasshoppers that were caught, the kitchen is great and well equiped but is also a nice place to watch the kids from and hand them snacks through the window. There were a lot of attractions in the nearby enviroment to not necessitate any overlong car journeys. The local town, Falaise has an interesting castle and a fantastic swimming pool with differing grades of slide, a great baby pool, and an outdoor pool with sun loungers. Pont d'ouilly felt like a mini Cornwall everyone was really friendly and there is a great canoeing rental on the river. There is a fantastic zoo just down the road 'zoo des jurques'. The Chateau Vendeuvre is lots of fun on a sunny day as the garden is not only beautiful but has lots of water surprises for the children to happen upon. The market at Saint Pierre sur Dives was huge and packed with all the yummy French produce you could hope for. Bagnoles de l'orne is a lovely spa town with various events, we saw horse racing. Our longest trip out was to Mont Saint Michel but that was not too far either, and is definately worth the trip especially combined with the Alligator Bay just up the road! What ever trip we went on, it was always lovely to come back to the house, a warm cosy retreat. We didn't need to light the fire because it was so warm but we did on a couple of occasions as it was so lovely to have :)

Owner's Response: Tamsin, your glowing review has blown us away! Thank you for taking the time and effort to send it in since your stay last year. We feel privileged to be part of something special, in knowing that your daughter learnt how to ride whilst staying at Eraine. We know it will help other families to decide if our Gite is the right holiday for them. With best wishes to you all, Chris & Ria

A true Home from Home

  • 5 of 5

This property truly is a home from home. All other holiday homes I've stayed in are just that and nothing more, providing only the bare essentials but this was like walking into someone's home. It has everything a family could wish for - satellite TV, DVD/CD/record player, with large collection of records, CDs etc, good collection of books to suit all tastes and ages, well stocked games chest, very well equipped kitchen, games room with table tennis, bikes etc. It is an old property with low ceiling beams, a crooked but steep staircase which may not be suitable for the very young or elderly. It is well decorated, very clean and well maintained. It is the perfect base for touring Normandy, although it is in the middle of the countryside it is only a 5min drive to the nearest town. There is a wealth of information provided by the owners about local attractions and the house (and the owners) make you feel as if you are a family friend visiting rather than a paying customer. Highly recommended.

A wonderful country location but close to Town

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this property from 11/6-11/10/ 2010. We were unable to stay the whole week as our niece had to renturn to school in Paris.

The farmhouse is very nicely equipped a quite cozy. The property was very private and quiet in the evenings. Unfortunately, we were faced with rain every day and were not able to enjoy the lovely grounds and walk the surrounding farm areas. The property is only a few miles away from Faliase where we had one of the best meals we've ever had in France. There was an interesting castle in town along with a nice Carrefor for groceries and such.

Chris and Ria, the owners, were very helpful and provided great directions and ideas for things to do in the area.

If in Normandy again, I would certainly rent this property.

Owner's Response: Very informative review, thank you so much. Sounds like you really appreciated the Normandie hospitality but sorry the November weather was not kinder to you. We look forward to welcoming you again if ever you decide to visit Falaise again. With best regards.

Our gite is in the hamlet of Treprel, which is next to Pierrepont. It is located off a D road and set on the edge of the beautiful Suisse Normande, an area of outstanding natural beauty, for those who are exploring the area for the first time.

There is a Church with bells nearby together with horses and cows in the fields. For bird-lovers, we have been advised by our guests that it's stunning.

There is fishing, golf & calvados tasting in the locality. A new aqua park with flumes & saunas is just outside Falaise, for the whole family to enjoy.

Falaise, which is 6 miles from Pierrepont, has all amenities and is well placed to visit the Normandy Landing Beaches, as well as explore this fascinating and welcoming part of France.

In Falaise itself, there is a Castle, several Churches, a Toy Museum and a Chateau. The shopping is excellent, with 3 supermarkets, gift shops, perfumery and a number of restaurants, bars of cafes, each with their own particular French ambience.

Other Activities: canoeing, wine tasting, gastronomic eating, gift shopping, chateaux.
