Overview

About the property

Comfortable, Traditional Self-catering Gite With Friendly French Neighbours

Excellent country location on edge of a small village. Detached homely cottage set its own grounds. Only two houses in our short lane, surrounded by farms but not isolated, as there is easy access to good roads for exploring. Our French neighbours look after the cottage for us so that the hedges are trimmed and the grass cut before the arrival of our guests. Mme Dufay cleans the house and prepares the linen and towels for those who are hiring these items, ready for use on arrival.

We are in the country but close to other villages and a lovely town called Falaise. Every time we go, they have made another improvement to the planting or roads or town square. Smashing people, very welcoming to guests and the shopping in Falaise itself is first class.

If you are looking for a relaxing break in a traditional setting, this could be just the holiday for you!

Notes:
The living room is a cosy comfortable room with a wood burning stove and two electric radiators, so is ideal for out of season lets and for during the summer months. There are two wine-coloured sofas, with an easy chair and foot-stool to match. Satellite tv with English free-view channels., which guests really seem to enjoy. There are also videos, CDs & DVDs to choose from. In our opinion, the garden is suitable for young children, it being flat and enclosed. There is a small children's' play house, for very young visitors to enjoy, as well as table tennis in the garage, for older ones, not forgetting the adults! There is some barbed-wire in the garden so very young children must be supervised at all times. There is ample parking. We cannot be responsible for any equipment which fails during a rental but we would always do our best to sort out any problems when you are there, to make sure your holiday is as comfortable as we can.

Beautiful cottage in the Normandy countryside. It has everything you need for a comfortable stay!

  • 5 of 5

This is our second time staying here and we love this cottage. It is an ideal location for exploring the Normandy area, D Day Landing beaches, museums etc. It's also only a short drive from the town Falaise which is beautiful. I'm sure we'll come back again soon!

Cozy and rustic corner of Normandy

  • 5 of 5

A Lovely family house, spacious, great facilities in a quiet country location. Fabulous garden full of apples hazelnuts and blackberries in Autumn. Great Log burner and UK Freesat. Close to Fallaise and the Suise Normand, easy access to Caen and on to the Normandy Beaches.

Simply charming.

Classic, quirky, old French farmhouse

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay here. The house suited our needs brilliantly and the owner was exceptionally helpful, providing lots of local information. The area is great, very quiet and gives access to Caen, Bayeux, Falaise and Clecy, the last two of which are definitely worth a visit and pretty close. Our two boys (3+1) loved the children's outdoor play stuff (ideal for their age) and the safe garden and we enjoyed the table tennis. Having a washing machine and dryer were really helpful. The only downside was the ceiling heights and that the beds had footboards made life interesting for my husband (who's 6' 5"...). We aren't really too worried about all the mod cons so can't really comment on the tv/DVD stuff as we didn't use it. We'd definitely think about using the house again.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your lovely comments and we are so pleased you enjoyed yourselves at 'Eraine'. We have to agree that some of the ceilings are a bit low as it is a very old cottage - the main bedrooms and living room are fortunately a good height. We have noted your comment about the bed footboards and understand it must have been a bit difficult for your tall husband and we will look into this. We are always looking for ways to improve the cottage and your remarks are very useful. Thanks again. We hope you will be able to stay at 'Eraine' again in the not too distant future. Kind regards, Pamela and Derek

Beautiful setting and well equipped cottage

  • 4 of 5

The setting is very beautiful and rural. The grounds are very pleasant. The kitchen is quite well equipped and we very much enjoyed preparing some authentic Normandy dishes. After some initial difficulty figuring out the unfamilar heating system we were able to control it very satisfactorily. Having English news programs was a plus for us. The downstairs bedroom contained just a single bed and the downstairs bathroom facility was only a toilet.

Owner's Response: Dear Mari Thank you very much for your helpful comments. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay at our cottage and managed to sort out the heating system. The little downstairs room with the overnight folding bed is only there for the occasional night visitor - the three main bedrooms and the two en-suite bathrooms are upstairs. We hope you have the occasion to return to our cottage and thank you for choosing it for your holiday. Kind regards, Pamela and Derek

Warm & Cosy Cottage in Beautiful Suisse Normande

  • 5 of 5

We wanted to enjoy the beautiful Normandy Countryside, with easy access to the Suisse Normande, Falaise and other nearby pretty towns/villages, like Clecy and Thury Harcourt. We found this lovely cottage a perfect base for that! It was warm and cosy, well equipped, very comfortable and quiet. Thank you, Pamela and Derek, we shall definitely be coming back!

Great place to stay and relax

  • 5 of 5

This was a lovely clean cottage very spacious and it felt more like home than a holiday cottage. The wood fire made every evening cosy and relaxing. Falaise was just over 5 mins away with shops, restaurants and a great castle to visit. We found it was with in a comfortable travelling distance of many of the World War memorials and places like Mont St Michel and Monet's Garden. The owners were always willing to answer questions and did everything they could to make our stay comfortable. I would recommend it to anyone wanting a relaxing break in the French country side.

Our gite is in the hamlet of Treprel, which is next to Pierrepont. It is located off a D road and set on the edge of the beautiful Suisse Normande, an area of outstanding natural beauty, for those who are exploring the area for the first time.

There is a Church with bells nearby together with horses and cows in the fields. For bird-lovers, we have been advised by our guests that it's stunning.

There is fishing, golf & calvados tasting in the locality. A new aqua park with flumes & saunas is just outside Falaise, for the whole family to enjoy.

Falaise, which is 6 miles from Pierrepont, has all amenities and is well placed to visit the Normandy Landing Beaches, as well as explore this fascinating and welcoming part of France.

In Falaise itself, there is a Castle, several Churches, a Toy Museum and a Chateau. The shopping is excellent, with 3 supermarkets, gift shops, perfumery and a number of restaurants, bars of cafes, each with their own particular French ambience.

Other Activities: canoeing, wine tasting, gastronomic eating, gift shopping, chateaux.
