Il Roccolo, Ascoli Piceno - Eco Friendly Family Holiday Cottage In The Marche

Bedrooms 3
Space 1,237 sq. ft.
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 2 - 7 nights

About the property

A 3 Bedroom Cottage on the side of Monte Piselli, overlooking Ascoli Piceno

La Casetta is a self-contained single storey stone cottage situated 11km from Ascoli Piceno on the side of Monte Piselli with views down over Ascoli Piceno and the Tronto valley right the way down to the Adriatic coast. Comprising three bedrooms, a family bathroom, a large lounge/dining room/kitchen with an open fire place and a private garden and out door eating area, it has been recently restored and is a light and airy place to stay in the summer.

The cottage is on the opposite side of a courtyard from the main house where the owners live but has it's own private garden and shaded outdoor dining area with views to the sea and sole use of a roofed outdoor games area including darts and table football. Guests are also free to roam and relax in our 7 acres of woodland and meadow, perhaps meeting with our chickens and donkey en route. Various seats, hammocks swings and toys can be found in shady corners. There are BBQ areas and a wood burning pizza oven, with help available if required!

Bedrooms comprise one large double bedroom, one twin bedroom and one single bedroom with the possibility of adding a cot or foldaway single if required. All linen is provided and changed weekly. We do ask that you bring your own beach towels, however. There is a washing machine and washing line for sole use of the guests.

Just up the hill from us at Pianoro di San Marco, is a public open air pool with bar and restaurant. There are beautiful walks, both gentle and more demanding, on this mountain (Monte Piselli) and a little further afield (Monti della Laga, Monti Sibillini) for which we can provide information and maps if required. Particularly in the spring the flower and birdlife of the area is spectacular.

If you prefer sightseeing the stunning city of Ascoli Piceno is at the bottom of the hill and we are not far from Civitella de Tronto with it's amazing fort, Offida the centre of the wine producing area, the gastronomic centre of Norcia, or from the coast with their 'bandiera blu' sandy beaches. Food and wine is generally good and restaurants are plenty, again, we are happy to advise and can also help booking some activities, for example, donkey trekking.

A car is essential to fully appreciate the area.

About David & Martine Albon

Il Roccolo Ascoli Piceno is owned and run by Martine and David Albon in the Marche region of Italy. We moved here from the UK in 2012 with our son George, to live and set up a holiday cottage with the focus on providing high quality eco-friendly family holidays in a secluded but easily accessible location. We live here full time and George goes to school in Ascoli Piceno. Since our arrival we have expanded our family and now have two cats, nine chickens and three donkeys.

We speak Italian, English and a small amount of French.

What makes this cottage unique

Il Roccolo is well placed to escape the worst of the summer heat allowing for a comfortable nights sleep. We are located in an easy accessible but secluded location, whilst remaining within easy reach of the city, mountains and the sea. There are fantastic views over the Piceno valley right down to the coast.

Sunny Perch over Ascoli Piceno

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in Il Roccolo for 4 nights and it provided a perfect location for exploring the Ascoli Piceno area. The cottage is beautiful, well-appointed, and comfortable in every respect. At the front it commands a spectacular view of the valley and is drenched in sunshine. At the back it opens onto a lovely shaded kiwi-arbor and trail up to their orchards and several small pastures. Martine and David are just next door to the cottage, and they are warm, welcoming, organized and knowledgeable hosts. With maps and recommendations they oriented us to many places of interest, the best restaurants in the area, and where to get provisions. Moreover, they made us feel altogether at home. We recommend Il Roccolo to anyone planning to visit Ascoli Piceno and environs.

A beautiful house above Ascoli Piceno surrounded by fantastic nature, very friendly and nice hosts

  • 5 of 5

  • 5 of 5

Niks was teveel! Ze gevn goede tips als het gaat om een dagje weg, bergwandeling of een lekker restaurant!

We raden een ieder aan om een keer naar Il Roccolo te gaan, je krijgt er geen spijt van!

Situated on the flanks of Monte Piselli, the cottage overlooks the majestic town of Ascoli Piceno and the Tronto valley looking towards the Adriatic sea. In among the mountains, close to lovely hill top towns, with great wine producers, great views, great walks, half an hour from the Monte Sibillini and Monti della Laga national parks and half an hour from the sea. There is a beautiful outdoor pool just 3 minutes drive away. Il Roccolo is well placed for exploring the beautiful regions of Le Marche and Abruzzo, whether it is walking or cycling in the Monti della Laga or Sibillini National Parks, lazing on the beaches of the Adriatic or exploring the numerous hilltop towns and villages across the region. The hilltop towns are renowned for holding festivals throughout the summer months.

We are just 10 minutes drive from Ascoli Piceno, reputed to be the most beautiful city in the Marche. It is a small city with plenty to see and numerous places to eat and drink, including the renowned Cafe Meletti. There are roman ruins, all eras of churches, museums, art, theatre and piazzas, including the Piazza del Popolo, arguably one of the most beautiful in Italy.
