A two bedroom two bathroom house with air conditioning in Lagos Historic centre

Casa Sebastiao is an old house painstakingly renovated to a high standard, situated within the Lagos city walls. The house provides a high standard of comfort while retaining the feel of a gracious old property. There are two terraces, a small breakfast terrace outside the living room and the other a roof terrace, offering great views of the bustling harbour and the 5km stretch of Meia Praia beach, and beyond. The house is entered by wooden double doors which open onto a spacious kitchen dining room, with seating for six. The granite topped island in the centre of the kitchen provides a great work surface, and the kitchen is well equipped with induction hob, electric oven, kettle, microwave, fridge/freezer, coffee maker and toaster. On this floor is the double bedroom plus annexe, suitable for an extra bed or for use as a child's room. There is also a utility room equipped with washer and dryer, and a family bathroom with bath and shower, handbasin and w.c. A hand made wooden staircase leads up to an airy living room, and a twin bedroom with en suite shower room and w.c, and the airy living room. There is air conditioning in the kitchen dining room and the living room. Off the living room is a small terrace with table and chairs, and an external staircase leads up to the roof terrace with its wonderful 360 degree views over the harbour, beach and countryside surrounding Lagos. There is a Weber charcoal barbecue for use on either of the terraces for al fresco dining. The upper terrace is also equipped with sun umbrella, loungers, table and chairs so as to get the best of the views and the sunshine. The property is fully equipped with towels and bed linen, plus basic foodstuffs and dishwasher and washing machine tablets. We also put a food pack in the fridge and some fresh fruit as a welcome gift. The property is registered with the Tourist Authority with Licence number 913/AL.

About Mary Palmer

We have lived in the Algarve for more than 25 years, working and bringing up our two children. They have now moved to the UK but we still see a lot of them when they come over for holidays. We now spend our time enjoying the outdoor life here and doing a variety of sporting activities, including running, swimming and cycling, as well as looking after the farm we have lived on since we moved to the Algarve, and of course our dog and cats. We love the relaxed life style we enjoy here, and as well as owning this house we have three other holiday properties which also keep us busy throughout the year

Why Mary Palmer chose Lagos region

We decided to add this house to our portfolio because of its location. Set within the city walls of Lagos, it is a great place to stay as it is so conveniently located for Lagos town centre. It is a two minute walk into the middle of the bustling town, with its narrow cobbled streets, pedestrian zones, busy restaurants and lively night life. Lagos also boasts its own train station, with trains going across the Algarve to the Spanish border and north to Lisbon, Porto and beyond. There is also a good network of local buses and the taxi rank is a five minute walk away. We love the countryside but also enjoy the city life, with its friendly cafes and proximity to shops and restaurants

What makes this house unique

The roof terrace was the deciding factor in our purchase of this house. The house is set on the hill above the fish and vegetable market, and offers great views. There is always something to look in the fishing harbour with the boats delivering their catch to the dock, and the unspoilt stretch of Meia Praia, is a view you can never tire of. Lagos town itself is also delightful, with the local population always ready to welcome visitors.

Beautiful renovation in perfect location

Mary met & led us to her apartment. It was in the perfect location in Old Town Lagos. It is beautifully renovated with lots of room to spread out. A plus was the roof terrace overlooking town, the marina & the sea. We had a lovely welcome package of food & wine. All the appliances in the apartment were easy to use. Even though it was in a central location it was very quiet. I would highly recommend to anyone visiting Lagos. Thank you Mary & Tony.

Nice apartment in heart of Lagos

We recently stayed at this character apartment in the old town of Lagos from Jan - Feb of 2015. The apartment shows very well and was a great base for a few months of Algarve exploring. The apartment is recently rennovated, well equipped and as described in the post. The location is perfect for visiting Lagos as we were two minute walk to the beach, groceries and into the shops and restaraunts of the old town. We found it very easy to find free parking in the area, although a car is not necessary when to Lagos. Mary, the owner, arranged for us to be met at the train station and provided a nice welcome pack for when we arrived. She was great with any questions we had and was even able to help us out the some toys for our 6 month old baby.

I'd happily recommend the property for couples and families who are visiting Lagos for a week or two and need a great place to base from.

Prachtig huis, geweldig verblijf.

Afgehaald door eigenaar van het treinstation. Vriendelijke en behulpzame ontvangst. Ruim, schoon huis, zeer goed onderhouden. Ideaal gelegen midden in het oude centrum van Lagos. Rustig straatje in prettige buurt. Winkels en cafés op twee minuten loopafstand. Huis meer dan groot genoeg voor vier personen. Twee ruime tweepersoons slaapkamers (plus nog een klein slaapkamertje). Ruime, gezellige woonkeuken met grote eettafel. Inductiekookplaat met pannen. Olie, azijn, zout, peper, theezakjes waren voorhanden. Alles is aanwezig, alles doet het. Ook de verwarming deed het goed (we waren er in februari). Goede badkamer. Wasmachine in aparte ruimte. Op de eerste verdieping mooie ruime woonkamer met breed uitzicht over de haven en de kust. Ruim dakterras boven de woonkamer, met nog mooier uitzicht. Heel fijne week gehad.

The town of Lagos has a long history and is associated with exploration of the New World. There is a town museum and various attractions celebrating this theme. Casa Sebastiao is inside the city walls, which wrap round the historic centre, and enclose the narrow winding cobbled streets. There are several beaches within walking distance of the house, and the main beach Meia Praia, can be reached by a footbridge. This is an expanse of 5km of golden sands, and there is always space on it for sunworshipping or enjoying the ocean. It also boasts several bars/restaurants along its length for a relaxed lunch. Lagos has a thriving marina, which is lined with cafes and bars, and is also reached across the footbridge. It is not necessary to have a car to enjoy a holiday in Lagos but it does give more freedom to explore the glorious West coast, with its stunning unspoilt beaches. These are becoming well known as a surfer's paradise, and many companies offer tuition and equipment hire. It is also possible to go out on a boat from Lagos harbour, either a rowing boat with outboard to explore the caves and grottos, a bigger traditional sailing boat for a day's sailing and a swim, or a fishing boat to try your luck at catching some fresh fish for dinner. There is an excellent zoo about 8kms outside Lagos, set in beautiful countryside. Here there is a good show of primates, birds and other creatures, plus a section especially suitable for younger visitors.

On arrival guests will find a welcome food pack consisting of bread, fruit, milk etc, plus we keep the house stocked with basics, tea, coffee, oil, condiments, dishwasher and washing machine detergent and so on. Casa Sebastiao is on the two upper floors of the property. On the level below is a studio, with separate entrance onto the street below, that has a double bed and can be rented from us in order to provide additional sleeping accommodation.
