About the property

Cottage, 6 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 15)

Do you want to stay within a stone's throw of the ocean? You can stand on the deck and literally see the fish jump, the dolphins play and the pelicans glide overhead. With the house facing south, the sun rise is spectacular as it moves from spreads from horizon to horizon. In the evening, the colors from the sunset paint the crests of the surf a golden pink! The views are breathtaking from every room in the house. There's no place like The Pink Flamingo for providing a vacation with fun and happy memories for everyone.

The house is newly decorated for fun in the sun....every room is a different tropical color. One of the comments we hear repeatedly is how 'happy' the house is. The 6 bedrooms are open and airy with ample closet space. Two of the upstairs oceanfront bedrooms have 7 foot bay window seats that are great for star gazing at night or watching kids play on the beach during the day (please see the pictures for a glimpse of these views.)

The exterior wall that faces the ocean is nearly all glass. The view is amazing! The kitchen area flows into the living space, providing more opportunities for sharing fun times with others. The kitchen sink is nestled behind two windows that offer a panoramic view of the ocean, making 'kitchen duty' not such a bad assignment! Seating for 14 is available in the house, with additional space at the picnic table on the oceanfront deck. For those who are sun sensitive, staying inside is not a problem because the amazing views from the living room help you feel like you are on the beach. And if you want to inch a little closer, you can relax on the ocean-front deck that spans 15x36 ft. Half of it is shaded and the other half exposed to the sun, making it possible for both sun-lovers and shade-lovers to hang out together. Some say this is the best feature of the house!

While we don't recommend working at the beach, there is wireless high speed internet connection for those who must, or for those teens who have to stay connected to their friends! Five cable TV’s and three DVD players help keep everyone satisfied in their choice of media selections. Netflix, movies on demand, allows for everyone to choose their favorite movie. Bed configurations are: 4 queen, 1 double, 5 twin.

Yes, the house and beach will keep you occupied during your stay, but the area has much to offer as well. You are less than a mile from a sound-side water sports rental place that offers kayaks, jet-skis, surf boards, and small sail boats. Bikes can be rented on the island, and biking is a terrific way to get around. About 2 miles from the house is a small, but well-stocked grocery store, and there are many fantastic, local seafood markets nearby. Several pizza restaurants deliver to the house! That's always helpful at the end of a busy day. A really great adventure for the entire family is a visit to the NC Aquarium which is about 10 minutes from the house. Cape Lookout is accessible by ferry, and mini-golf and go-carts are only 2 miles away. There's lots more to do and see on Emerald Isle, but you'll have to come and explore it for yourself. So why don't you plan a trip to remember, where there's something for everyone, at The Pink Flamingo?

Rents from Sunday to Sunday.

About Jim and Marilyn

We are a beach-loving family! The ocean is our great escape from the hectic pace of everyday life. We grew up visiting the Outer Banks and spent many summers on its shores. We love the outdoors. Some of our favorite activities include sailing, surfing, fishing, swimming, snorkeling, diving, kayaking and biking. Yet we also love to read, sit on the beach, and share good times with family & friends. We feel especially close to God when surrounded by such an awesome display of beauty. Family, friends & faith are the things that we value most.

Jim and Marilyn purchased this house in 2003

Why Jim and Marilyn chose Emerald Isle

We LOVE Emerald Isle because we love everything about the beach. The beaches are swimmer-friendly and the emerald green waters are amazing. Emerald Isle is not overrun with commercialism. You can truly enjoy the laid back pace of living here. If you like boating, there's a public boat launch about 4 miles from the house. You can walk your kayak about 100 yards from the house and launch it into the sound. Get on the bike path one block from the house and you can ride the entire length of Emerald Isle. Surf fishing in front of the house is awesome, and who doesn't love the thrill of hunting for sand crabs with flashlights after dark?!

What makes this house unique

If given the chance, I would live at The Pink Flamingo year round!! The views are wonderful. Every day is an adventure because the ocean is forever changing. We even had a Great American Right Whale & her baby hang out for about 90 minutes within eye sight. We could see the water spout and watch the baby play close to its mother! Sometimes you see fish sailing out of the water, and frequently the dolphin play in the waves. Early morning walks often produce a collection of beautiful shells. After storms, the sea deposits gorgeous shells on the shore. My favorite places to be are on the deck in the evening where the stars are spectacular, and I love sitting in the window seat upstairs taking in a 180 degree view of the beach. We also like to bicycle and the streets are safe enough to do this without worry. There's also a paved bicycle path that runs the entire distance of Emerald Isle. During the summer, the town of Emerald Isle has an outdoor concert on the beach on Thursday nights. Bring a lawn chair and a picnic for an evening of fun. Another thing that's fun to do is to ride a few miles down the road to Salter Path where so many local fishermen reside. You can pick up just about any type of seafood that's only hours out of the ocean. Then of course, a seafood fest with friends & family back on the beach is the most awesome experience ever!

... extraordinary find!

  • 5 of 5

The Pink Flamingo is an extraordinary find! The beach front location offers immediate access to sand & surf for everyone!

As a fisherman, the few steps down from the shaded deck, provide ample opportunity for surf casting – while staying connected with all of the other beach house happenings among your group. Just across the way (sound side) is a fine launch point for kayak access to paddle the shallows. There are also numerous boat ramps close by.

Returning to the deck to barbecue the catch is the perfect way to share fishing tales as others report on the non-piscatorial happenings and festivities of the day!

The house is cheerfully decorated, incredibly well provisioned, and perfectly located to provide the very best of Emerald Isle.

Will definitely stay here again and again…

A Great Escape

  • 5 of 5

The Pink Flamingo is aptly named -- it is truly a fun escape from the stresses of everyday life which we would recommend to anyone! The owners have truly thought of everything ~ the entire house is beautifully and tastefully decorated in "fun" colors and has all the amenities you could ever need. We especially enjoyed the views of the ocean from the upstairs bay window and while relaxing in the living area downstairs; not to mention the wonderful deck! There are plenty of activities in the area -- something for every traveler. We truly appreciated being able to simply come and "crash" for a week in this very peaceful and refreshing place and hope to return again.

Beautiful Place, perfect location!

  • 5 of 5

Just perfect!

I could end my review here but that wouldn't be fair.

The weather was perfect, the view from the upstairs bedrooms allowed me to wake up super early and maximize my days. I could hear the ocean all day long, it was just wonderful. The deck was perfectly built for the shade and the sun lovers. We could not have asked for more.

The rooms are far apart enough to where you have enough privacy.

This was officially the first vacation with the kids, and they enjoyed it.

Thank you for sharing your home with us. We are truly grateful.

A beach front dream

  • 5 of 5

As soon as we walked in the door we knew we were in for a week long treat. The open living space makes spending time and eating together easily accommodated. With our family of 13 we were able to play games, eat meals and escape from the rain very comfortably.

Our most favorite part of the Pink Flamingo is the amazing deck. We enjoyed our coffee and our cocktail hours out watching and listening to the ocean...just a few steps away. We watched stars and enjoyed each evening together. This is a gem!

The notes around the house are very helpful-letting your know how to work various TVs or if you blow a fuse. Those are nice touches.

We will cherish our fantastic family vacation for years to come!

Thank you for sharing your home and making it fun!

A great vacation at the Pink Flamingo in Emerald Isle

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful vacation we had at the Pink Flamingo in Emerald Isle. The house is beautifully decorated and reflects the good taste and "pride of ownership" of the owners in every room of the house. It is a summer vacation I will savor and remember long after the sun has set and I have returned to my busy life in the city. Life is made of beautiful memories and this will be one of mine.

For my sister and myself this was one of the most pleasureable vacations we have had the opportunity to enjoy together. The Pink Flamingo far exceeded our expectations and we were thrilled with everything about it.

We especially enjoyed our walks on the beach to the local seafood market where we bought freshly caught shrimp, brought it back and boiled our shrimp in the well-stocked kitchen of The Pink Flamingo. We ate a sumptuous dinner on the deck overlooking the ocean. No restaurant anywhere could compare.

The spectacular view of the ocean from nearly every room in the house was amazing and waking up in the morning to watch the sun rise and hear the surf lapping at the shore was the most beautiful alarm clock ever.

We look forward to returning and think everyone should experience a vacation at the Pink Flamingo at least once in their lifetme. I highly recommend it!

Great house, great location!

  • 5 of 5

As soon as we pulled up, we knew we were going to love the Pink Flamingo! The bright colors, inside and out are perfect for a beach retreat. The layout of the house was great, and it had all of the things we needed. The kitchen had plenty of gadgets and dishes (there were 8 of us), and the kids loved having Netflix. We loved being so close to the beach, and with the windows in the living room, you could see/hear the ocean any time you were inside. The home is very well maintained. The deck was great for eating or just lounging. There was a nice note from the owners on the table, along with some cute paper plates/napkins with Flamingoes on them. I also loved that they not only had a guess book, but a recipe book with a nice selection of recipes from other people who have stayed there. We thoroughly enjoyed our week at the Pink Flamingo, and if we return to the Emerald Isle area, we will be staying there again!
