Overview

About the property

3 bedrooms, living room, kitchen and bath. 14 acre garden, peaceful surroundings

Woodcroft, located in the village of Horgabost on the island of Harris in the archipelago of 'The Outer Hebrides' on the west coast of Scotland, is situated within walking distance of beautiful unspoilt sandy beaches.

Until 1957 it was an ordinary Hebridean croft. That year it was taken over by a couple, who slowly turned the place into the unique place it appears today.

A huge garden was planted in the 14 acre croft by one man over a period of 45 years. It is the perfect place to stay as a base for exploring the island and all it's possibilities. If you arrive in June-July, you can experience the blooming 'machair'.

The house has 2 large bedrooms on the ground floor, 1 small bedroom on 1st floor with a private toilet, a living room with views over the village, a large kitchen with all modern facilities and a bathroom with bath and shower. The house has oil central heating and an open coal fire in the living room. There is wireless internet connection as well as a TV and a dvd player. NO pets allowed.

You are welcome to phone up for further information.

A home away from home

  • 5 of 5

A wonderful, cosy cottage, situated up a long drive near Horgabost beach. The house was very well-equipped and was perfect for us with two young children - washer/dryer, wipe clean floors in the kitchen, a big family table, a highchair, dishwasher, bath. The beds were very comfortable. The location was perfect for us and with the nearest beach a short walk down the drive and through the campsite, we were able to make the most of the hours between naps! We also recommend going up to the Eagle Observatory at Glen Miavig when the ranger is there, eating at the Temple cafe and the Anchorage restaurant, walking to the ruined broch on the coast near Northton, Luskentyre of course, and exploring the east coast lochs. We had a fantastic week and were very sorry to leave.

Ideally situated. Clean ,comfortable ,warm.

Would def. book again.

Couple of things I would recommend for the property-ironing board+iron, cake dish and one big pot and a big casserole dish.

Thanks though for a great holiday house and super location .

We love Harris especially in the sunshine.

  • 5 of 5

Phenomenal holiday: lovely house, great location, friendly people and unbelievably lucky with the weather. Clisham is well worth climbing, day trip to Stornoway (great seafood shop at harbour) was good, beaches at Horgabost and Luskentyre amazing. Cycle to Leverburgh good exercise and lunch at the Temple Cafe was superb. Last evening, we had dinner at The Anchorage in Leverburgh (great food, great service and really friendly vibe). The house is lovely. WiFi too slow for teenagers but ok for the rest. Tarbert is quite quaint, gin well worth trying.

Relaxing woodcroft

  • 5 of 5

Loved the tranquility, the beaches, the views, the sunsets, the cleanliness of the cottage, the wild life, the children running wild on the beaches with hardly anyone on them, the mountains, the eagles, Croft 36 banana muffins, the Anchorage fish and chips, comfortable beds, the wild mint at the top of the lane, the friendly faces of everyone we met, the ideal location woodcroft has to enjoy all of these things, and finding somewhere that grabbed my sole and kept a piece, so I'll have to return some day to feel whole again.

A Wonderful Week

  • 5 of 5

Woodcroft.is a comfortable, well located and well organised holiday cottage. We visited other parts of Harris and Lewis including Callanish and the coastline around Uig but Horgabost in the south west of Harris with its stupendous coastal scenery and wildlife was the best place to stay in our view.

We watched lapwings defending their chicks against gulls in the marshland west of Northton - unforgettable. The beaches are probably even better than those on Corsica. The Temple Cafe at Northton is great and the Co-op at Leverburgh is good for supplies.

We will return. We left some birdseed in the containers by living room windows - we couldn't find black seeds to buy for your visiting goldfinches.
