Guestbook comments from the manager

After a long flight over the Pacific Ocean, the Nakano apartment was the perfect place to settle in to. Makoto-san made the check-in process a breeze, and made sure that we had everything that we needed and showed us how to use everything properly. Staying at the Nakano apartment is highly recommended. During our two week stay, the three of us were able to experience a side of Tokyo that we never would have seen if we had stayed at a hotel. We frequented the nearby supermarket very often and were able to make and try a wide range of new cuisine in the comforts of our own space. The apartment was furnished with all the necessary amenities and is located in a very quiet and convenient area. We have recommended this apartment to all of our friends who are planning to visit Tokyo. And we’re definitely staying here again when we visit this winter! Arigatou Makoto-san for everything!

Great location, great value, quiet, secure, comfortable and fantastic to have all of the comforts of home. If ever I was to return to Kyoto (which I hope to) I wouldn't hestitate to return to this apartment.

Not Recommended for Couples - Convenient Location

  • 3 of 5

This listing states that it "Sleeps 3". How is this possible? It does not have any beds. It only has that one futon you see in the photo. You pull it down into a single bed. This would be ok for a single traveler but not for couples.

We saw in the listing that it sleeps 3 and say the photo of the actual bed and the futon BUT those are not the same apartment. They are 2 different apartments.

One of us had to sleep on the floor while the other slept on the futon. Neither of us slept much at all for our stay in Tokyo because of this.

Makoto was friendly though and it was great that he met us at the station. He gave us a good intro and run-down of the apartment and neighborhood.

The other issue was that we were surprised just how much information he was needing from us. It's ok to know which train we'll be on but also required was which flight we arrived into Japan on. We were in Japan for several days in another city before Tokyo, so not sure why that was needed. Also needed to know our names, addresses, nationality (usual) and "blood types" as well as departing flight information etc. With only a phone and very spotty wifi in Japan, it was quite difficult and time consuming to get all of this to him.

He also expected us to wait at the apartment on our last day until around noon to meet with him again. I'm still not sure why this was needed. We wanted to see a couple more sights and go to the airport so did not have time for it. Because of this, I think we all ended on a sour note unfortunately.

In all of our years of travel, 60 countries and many vacation rentals throughout Japan, this is the first time we needed to provide so much information and told to wait until a certain time before we could leave on the last day.

All in all though, it was clean and convenient location. Just incredibly small. We had a good time in Tokyo and it was nice meeting him.

If you're a solo / single traveler, this is a great place for you.

Totally Impressed

  • 5 of 5

We were met at the station by Makoto, who is very friendly and helpful. He quickly got us settled in and went out of his way to help when I failed to understand how to light the cooker. I cannot fault the service we received from the first enquiry email all the way to after our visit.

The apartment was lovely - well presented, very clean and great access for local shopping and the train. The area is quiet immediately around the apartment making for peaceful evenings and sleeps!

The hustle and bustle is, however, just a short walk away and Nakano Broadway has plenty to offer. Thoroughly enjoyed visiting here late afternoon on our way back. Of course, the supermarket is also very conveniently located and regular trips kept us topped up on supplies. With such a brief stroll back to home it quickly became part of our routine.

For the money paid it is very good value and I would be hard pushed to contemplate staying anywhere else as the service is reliable and friendly, making our stay stress free.

If anyone is considering a stay in Japan I will be surely recommending them this service. Impeccably good value and superb service all round, I sincerely look forward to staying again.

Un merveilleux sejour

  • 5 of 5

Comfortable apt with easy access to Tokyo sights

The apartment served us well and we loved the Nakano area which offered a wide choice of affordable and intriguing restaurants. Makoto was superb -- helping out with minor problems, explaining the area thoroughly and then finally helping us navigate our way to the airport. Many thanks, Makoto!
