Fabulous Coastal Island Retreat
We had a great experience staying in JT's Sapelo Island home. The house is very well equipped with modern conveniences and comfortable. Beds and linens were comfy. JT spent a lot of time prior to our visit making sure we understood what to expect from staying on a remote barrier island. We easily rented a car from his neighbor prior to our visit and enjoyed our time on Sapelo, especially the beach at Cabretta. Although wifi and cell phone signal aren't always strong, there are plenty of folks on the island that will answer questions and help you out. JT has a great network of support over there. We highly recommend this house!
Beautiful accommodations truly away from it all
This cabin is both beautifully designed and wonderfully appointed. The owners' welcome packet was accurate, and we found the place exactly as described. The island caretakers were attentive to our needs. We truly appreciated the opportunity to get away from it all in such a relaxing spot. Thank you!
Great stay at a unique property. We had a wonderful time on Sapelo. The cabin was beautiful, we’ll be booking again soon! If you really want to get away, this is your place. The owner was courteous, communicative, and the place was clean, well equipped, and just as described. Thanks Again
"Rustic" Gem in Sapelo
We traveled to Sapelo Island for a long weekend, and had the pleasure of renting this place. The house is located on the outskirts of Hog Hammock. It is a very comfortable space with three bedrooms and two baths. There is an open front porch, and a large screened-in back deck - great for hanging out and listening to frogs and crickets.
You can tell this is a Southern Gentleman's getaway. The cabin does have a rustic feel to it, but it is a "Garden & Gun" rusticism. The floor boards appear to be reclaimed planks. There's not a bit of sheet rock to be found - the ceiling, walls and floors are all wood. The electric and plumbing fixtures are all very nice.
You get "rustic" from the lack of a television dishwasher, laundry machines, and a vintage GE refrigerator with a tiny freezer. But there's a split-system AC/heater in every room. There's a tankless water-heater that will allow two hot showers at the same time. The kitchen is well-equipped, with pretty much anything you might need. There's wi-fi if you must stay connected.
Visiting Sapelo Island for a few days requires planning. There are no restaurants on the Island, and only one sparsely-stocked convenience store, so you'll need to plan your meals and pack in everything you'll need. You'll also need to arrange transportation on the island. This cabin is about 2.5 miles from the beach and about that far from the dock. The owner will put you in touch with the people who can help with the arrangements, but you'll need to plan ahead. You can rent a car or a golf-cart for about $50/day.
Having said all of that, the Sapelo experience is unbelievable. The people you'll meet are friendly. Unspoiled nature is all around you. If you go during the week, it is unlikely that you'll see anyone at all on the beach (and you'll only see a few people on the weekends). Live oaks, Spanish moss, and palms are everywhere.
The owner was very responsive to all of our questions, and was helpful with every aspect of our planning. I am grateful that he shared his place with my family, and we look forward to visiting again.
A Magic Getaway in a Perfect Cabin!
What a perfect place to get away from it all. We traveled with our two children, ages 4 and 6 to Sapelo for the weekend. The cabin exceeded our expectations in every way. It has been beautifully built, was clean, comfortable, private, and fully stocked. The screened porch is huge, and is a great spot to eat meals, relax in front of the fireplace, watch deer pass by in the morning, or just swing in the hammock. It is rustic bliss. There is no TV (which we embraced), no dishwasher (so we brought our own paper goods), and you’ll need to rent a vehicle to get from the ferry to the house and around the island. This was the best family vacation we’ve ever had, and we travel a lot. We can’t wait to book another weekend!
We are so pleased your family enjoyed the cabin! It has been a special and unique place for us to escape too; we are glad you could appreciate and enjoy a little get away!
