Villa Almendra is a large,(totally private) newly renovated villa which sleeps six, furnished and equipped to a high standard.The property boasts breathtaking panoramic views with private access.To the right of the villa is a beautiful backdrop of the nearby Tejada and Almijara mountain ranges. Set in a hamlet of 10 villas between the villages of Competa and Canillas both within walking distance, Almendra comprises 3 bedrooms. The master bedroom has its own new en-suite shower/wet room, the second double bedroom has sliding doors opening out to the patio/pool area and the third bedroom has twin beds, all with ceiling fans. The main bathroom (newly fitted) has a jacuzzi bath with shower, wet room, WC, and wash basin.The luxury kitchen has a gas hob/oven; fridge/freezer; microwave, washing machine and dishwasher. This overlooks the conservatory/sun room with dining table and chairs. The lounge has a new digital TV with English and sky chaneles and free wifi is also available. There is a large private swimming pool 10m x 4m, outdoor shower set in a tiled patio with garden furniture on paved terraces and private sunbathing areas surrounded by beautiful planted hay baskets filled a variety of coloured flowers. There is also a newly purpose built outdoor barbecue.The main advantage of this villa is that it is easily accessible. no need to drive long unmade roads to get to it

At the entrance to the villa is a carport and access is through a private gateway opening onto a terracotta terrace with balustrade running all along the south facing boundary.There are two entrances to the property,one through the sunroom and the other through the Kitchen which looks out to the pool.Kitchen is well equipped with green granite worktops and storage cupboards.From the kitchen is an open arched passageway leading to the dining area and the lounge.The dining area also leads out to a covered terrace affording ample shade if required.The lounge has attractive arched windows and enjoys the luxury of a fitted carpet,useful for winter rentals.There are 3 double bedrooms,the master is at the end of the villa with wood beamed ceiling and a ceiling fan.There is also an ensuite with shower,WC and sink unit.The second and third bedrooms have pine panelled built in wardrobes,twin beds,dressing table and bedside cabinets,The second bedroom has sliding french windows leading out to the swimming pool terrace.

To make the holiday less stressful an airport pick up and return can be arranged for up to four people to take you directly to the villa at an additional cost, alternatively car hire can be arranged at a competitive price.

Villa Almendra was everything we that expected it to be. It was a very comfortable and clean home-from-home with the addition of the wonderful views. The pool was brilliant and well maintained. All 6 of us had an excellent time visiting local sights, restaurants and shops. In particular we enjoyed eating at Bar Cerezo and The Plaza in the centre of Canillas de Albaida. Lunch in Competa square is also a lovely experience. We went on some interesting walks,using the information in the 'House Book'. The goat-track to Competa was very useful. The villa is very secure and private with ample parking for 2 cars. The journey down (and back up again) when visiting the coast can feel a little long and winding but it has to be done to appreciate the wonderful views when up at the villa. Booking the villa was easy and the owners were helpful without being pushy. We have finally found somewhere that we would like to revisit. The only down-side was not realising that we needed to take our own beach/pool towels (it is not clear from the web site) and the washing machine was broken. We didn't let this spoil our enjoyment. The villages of Competa and Canillas de Albaida are approximately 2kms apart, both of which can easily be reached on foot, which is perfect for visitors wishing to eat out in one of the many fine local restaurants and who wish to take a drink with their meal. Both villages are served very well with Supermarkets and splendid gift shops. The many fine coastal areas and resorts are approximately 20kms away. The whole area is a walker's paradise and visitors are also able to play tennis or participate in pony trekking and horse-riding through the beautiful countryside.

lovely spot between Competa and Canillas de Albeida

Lovely views and quiet location. The pool was only for the brave in April but some of our number used it daily. Breakfast on the terrace was a daily ritual. The log-burning stove with an ample wood supply was excellent for the sometimes chilly evenings. Fine walking in the vicinity. Glorious spring flowers everywhere.

Our holiday nightmare!

On day four we got robbed! Someone used keys to enter the villa at night. We woke in a gut instinct terror early in the morning to the sound of the front door banging closed. My husband checked all doors and windows and they were all locked up and couldn't see prowlers so we went back to sleep. But later that day after walking out locally for lunch we found all money had been taken from one purse left in lounge and we know it definitely had a few hundred euros in it when we went to bed. Police visited and were great but we didn't sleep very well after that. At least we didn't wake up to the robber standing over our bed. Two out of three locks were changed within 24 hours, bit odd but we barricaded the third door. Apparently it had been recently replaced. There is obviously a security issue at this property.

On top of that we arrived to a thick green pool. We only complained after feeling we didn't want to use it for the first three days and after looking at the so blue pool pictures on the website. Then we had to endure the pool man every day for the rest of our holiday, not what we think a relaxing villa holiday should involve. There seem to be very regular pool problems at this property.

Lastly, the villa was strangely stripped bare of things like oil, vinegar, herbs and spices that inevitably all guests leave. There was literally only one book, no games or pool equipment and no DVD connected but there was a dusty one in a cupboard that might have worked.

Owner's Response: This review has absolutely no substance to it and is completely inaccurate. Having thoroughly investigated the matter of alleged theft I discovered that the client had not been totally honest in her appraisal of the situation. The pool man who maintains the pool at the property ( and has done for many years) witnessed doors being left unlocked and open when the guests were sleep without any concern for the security of the villa. In an attempt to hide this fact it is sadly apparent that this client apart from seeking some remuneration covered up the true facts, by insinuating that someone had a key, an assertion that was and is completely untrue. I urge you to please read all other very positive reviews and dicard this one as being pernicious and vindictive

Peace perfect peace

If your looking to get away from it all this is the place. Great views of the countryside all the way to the sea. The walk into Competa is great but for the daytime only but you can get a Taxi back in the dark.

The villa itself was very clean and

Plenty of good food shops in Competa along with places to eat and drink. Sam, the owner was on hand, if required, to give help and advice. All and all a great few days and will probably return.

We had 2 weeks here in Sept 2016. The property itself is very well maintained and in a beautiful, setting. The villages of Competa and Canilares are close by. Canilares is a 10 minute walk and has everything you need. The pool was excellent and totally private. The lady who looks after the property, Loli, made sure we had everything we needed and she did a great job. As a note to the owner, as there were only 2 of us we had ebough crockery, but I think you need to get some more for larger parties. Thank you for a fabulous holiday.

Cómpeta is situated about 17 kms inland from Nerja. Take the Motorway from Malaga Airport and alight at Algarrobo and follow the signs inland to Cómpeta and Canillas de Albaida. Alternatively, exit the Motorway at Torrox and follow the signs inland to Cómpeta.Situated at the foot of the Sierra Tejeda and Almijara mountains.The villa is positioned high up between 2 beautiful old Spanish villages with houses of Roman,Moorish and Christian origin with breathtaking views and magnificent sunsets.The region boasts superb local restaurants serving Spanish cuisine .Local points of interest include vineyards,traditional agricultural activities (cultivation of advocados,almonds and olive groves)picturesque walks into natural forests and national parks.Local markets provide a wonderful array of local crafts and foods.This is a location where a day out at the beach is accessible on the coast for those who want to do that .The area is one you will enjoy and want to return to time and time again.
