A wonderful property!

  • 5 of 5

Our family is originally from Maine and we lived on Cobbossee Lake before we moved to Virginia, so we were familiar with the area. This property is wonderful! It is very spacious and up-to-date, but with a rustic feel. It is in a very convenient location, near shopping, etc. and the lake is quite calm because of the various islands nearby. We enjoyed the hot tub every evening, watching the sunsets and the loons on the lake. We absolutely loved it.

Spectacular & Tranquil

  • 5 of 5

I booked this property for a family get together for eight people and couldn't have been more pleased with my selection. It's located off a dirt road on the wooded shore of Cobosseecontee Lake. Yet despite this backwoods charm, the house is a short drive to Augusta, several large grocery stores, a major interstate highway, and well-paved state roads that provide all the bucolic scenery any city dweller could want. But whether or not you're using this as a staging point for sightseeing, the home is a destination in itself because of its focus on rooms designed to encourage both conversation and relaxation -- from a fully glassed second story patio, to a stone fire pit, a communal dinner table, a dock that can accommodate chairs and stargazing, a wraparound deck, and a reading nook by a wood stove. We had a blast talking, kayaking, canoeing, playing ping pong and board games, and cooking and eating lavish meals in the spacious kitchen and dining area. If your goal is to chill out by a quiet lake dotted with wooded islands, this is exactly the place you want. Our local contact Tracy was very responsive to any questions about the property, and the owner Greg was both accommodating and easy to deal with regarding booking the property and checking in.

A few small things I would change about the visit have to do with the kitchen: I felt the need to run a couple loads of the dishwasher before settling in because the first plate and mug I grabbed from the cupboard were a bit greasy and somewhat stained. A minor issue, but annoying nonetheless. Also, though I'm normally a fan of well water, I found the tap water at this property to be far less tasty than what I drink everyday in Seattle -- but to be fair it was certainly much better than what passes for potable in Houston. All told, these are not issues that would keep me from wholeheartedly recommending this property for anyone headed to central Maine for a week of decompressing from the stresses of big city life. And it's the perfect place if you're decompressing with at least four other people.

Absolutely perfect! The best vacation home I've ever rented

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking for a truly relaxing vacation home then this is the perfect one for you. Everything was absolutely as advertised and even more. The house and property were immaculate. It had all the amenities you could possibly want. We got an ABSOLUTELY PERFECT week weather wise and were able to fully enjoy the lake for all it offered. Swimming, kayaking, sitting out in the hot tub, playing table tennis and just relaxing on the hammock reading a book. If you are looking for a place to just relax and enjoy Maine, you will not find a better location. Will absolutely be renting this place again next year!

Pictures don't do it justice!

  • 5 of 5

Everything about our stay was wonderful! The lake, the grounds, the house - amazing! Amenities galore! So relaxing! One thing that we loved but that others may not so just want to put it out there - the neighborhood is full of friendly dogs who liked to come over and visit our dog. She LOVED that and we did too! But some people may not so just wanted to share.

Wonderful home with gorgeous views and everything you need!

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic stay at this home on Lake Cobbossee last week. It had everything we needed for cooking, swimming, boating, or just relaxing in the hot tub or on the couch to watch a movie or play a board game. We thoroughly enjoyed taking in the sunset from both the indoor and outdoor porches. It was a short 15-minute drive from Augusta or from Hallowell where there are plenty of restaurants and any store you might need. We look forward to going back.

Cobbosseecontee Lake is the central and largest in the Winthrop Lakes area. The water quality for fishing, swimming and recreational use is exceptional. The Winthrop Lakes area is close to shopping in Augusta, antiquing in Hallowell and the many summer features of the region. We are only a 45 minute drive to Freeport's L.L. Bean and other outlet stores. Ideal central location in the state for fall foliage. For winter snowmobilers and cross-country skiers, this house is ideal with many central Maine snowmobile trails in the area and 10 miles of lake to ski upon.
