Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday home in Port Saint Joe - Gufenauf

House, 2 Bedrooms + Loft, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 6)

The original 'Gufenauf' name was for our boat, symbolizing our intentions -to goof off! We learned to do it so well, we extended the name to our house and invite you to enjoy your own goofin' off experience.

This Gulf Front home is located at Indian Pass in the heart of 'Florida's Forgotten Coast'. Indian Pass is one of the last beaches which still allows campfires for wiener-roasts and s'mores. Because of the unique land/water interplay, the sky creates a planetarium affect, producing sunrises, sunsets and night skies that have to be seen to be believed.

Bring your boat, the driveway is accommodating and the public boat ramp leading to some of Florida's best fishing is only 3/4 mile east; but if you don't find our hidden grouper holes, just drive one mile west to the renowned Indian Pass Raw Bar, home to Apalachicola's finest oysters and seafood. Snorkeling and scalloping is available in St. Joe Bay, only a few miles further West. One-quarter mile from the boat ramp lies St. Vincent Island, a 12,358 acre uninhabited national wildlife refuge (a shuttle is available). Also within minutes is St. Joseph Peninsula State Park - A 2500 acre Park voted the top beach in America in 2002 and is constantly in the top 10.

No boat? Book your own diving or fishing charter with one of the many captains or just sit on the balcony, sipping your favorite beverage and watch the shrimp boats passing the 'Gufenauf' on their way to deep waters.

Whether it’s fishing, crabbing, diving or metal detecting for the legendary pirates' treasure buried at Money Bayou, we hope you enjoy the magic of 'Gufenauf'.

About Ralph Monger

Although we live in Central Fl., we have been coming to Indian Pass for the past 35 years. At first we rented in the area and then in 1987 we bought the Gufenauf. To visit Indian Pass is like stepping back in time 50 years. We have been lucky enough to take our kids, grandkids and now our great grandkids to this magical place. It truly is the 'Forgotten Coast' and hopefully will remain that way for many years to come.

Ralph Monger purchased this house in 1987

Why Ralph Monger chose North West Florida

This is a question better answered by those renters who come back year after year.

What makes this house unique

We love it here because it's quite, safe, and secluded. We enjoy fishing off of the beach and crabbing with the kids, not to mention, the fresh seafood in the area. Mostly, we enjoy just kicking back, doing nothing, and working on our stress relief. We've had enough of the big city resort vacations.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Our beach house has been available for rent for 8 years as of this posting. We are averging just under 3 rentals per month. That's outstanding. The people who stay here come back. Why? because they love it. It's a cute little house, that's priced right, on a beach that's almost deserted. What's not to like? Did I mention that it's very very quiet with sunsets and stars to die for????

Perfect location

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time staying at this lovely home. It was the perfect size for 2 adults and 2 children, and Ralph was very helpful and responsive. The location is great - you walk outside and across the street and you are on the beach. If you want quiet and solitude, Gufenauf is an excellent choice.

This is a wonderful little house to stay in at the beach. We were very pleased with it. It is not too far from the beach. I would recommend the golf cart rentals in the area. We loved to get up each morning and head to the beach to watch the sunrise while we collected sea shells. The house has everything you might need to enjoy a stay and feel right at home.We would gladly stay here again in the future. Ralph was very pleasant to work with and he even called to check up on us to make sure we had all that we needed.

Just rented Gufenauf for a short stay and fell in love with it! Love its proximity to the beach and it is well-equipped with everything we two beach bums need. Well-maintained and cared for. Definitely stay here again!

Our Home on the Beach

  • 5 of 5

Arriving at the Gufenauf it immediately felt like home. Cant say enough about the location, the view from the golf cart trail as you approached the beach was our favorite. Our 8yr old yellow lab was in heaven, riding on the back of the cart, swimming, fetching tennis balls out of the surf and relaxing in the shade under the house. Indian Pass is so laid back, no crowds, very little traffic, and everyone so friendly. Ralph, the owner was extremely helpful recommending the cart rental, best places to eat, fishing trips and best buys on fresh seafood. We can't stop talking about the Indian Pass Raw Bar, great seafood, self-serve beer, and an atmosphere that defies description. We will be back next year for some more "goofing off"

Spent January at the Gufenauf. It is quaint and comfortable, located just a few yards from the beach. On the beach you will meet friendly beachcombers and dog walkers. While you can sleep 6, 4 would be more comfortable. The loft is a nice place to read and relax but the futon would not be for everyone. Indian Pass is mile from any store or services, so come prepared to fix your own meals. The kitchen is small and nicely set up, but come with some of your own favorite cooking utensils as those supplied much like those you had in your first college apartment. The owner checked on us several times during our stay to make sure all was going well. Would we go back? You bet, but with a good frying pan, good knives and a couple pots.

Owner's Response: Thank you, John, for the review, although the 4 stars are a bit disappointing after working so hard to maintain the 5 star rating vital for the Gufenauf. Please know we make every effort to assure the comfort and satisfaction of everyone staying in our home. Had you expressed these concerns in our telephone conversations, our property manager would have addressed them immediately. This is the first time our kitchen supplies have come to our attention, but most of the renters rave about the Raw Bar and local restaurants, so probably do as little cooking as my wife and I do while on vacation. We will remedy this complaint when we are there next month. Thank you for the other kind words.
