About Anders Kornerup

My wife and I bought the property in 2003 to move to France after my retirement in 2006. We spent 3 years renovating the building, swimming pool and gardens. We only rent the house for a few months in the summer where we reside us in Denmark.

Anders Kornerup purchased this villa in 2003

Why Anders Kornerup chose Alps-Maritimes Valleys

When we first saw the house, was it a 'Sleeping Beauty Castle' in the middle of a stand, which had grown up in the 25 years the house had been empty. As we stood on the large south-facing terrace, we could be enjoying the fantastic views down to the river Var. We completely fell for the place and decided that here we would spend our retirement years.

A study of our closest cities (Villars, Touët, Maloussenne, Massoins etc.) Showed that these medieval towns lived their own lives, untouched by the mass tourism on the coast in Nice, Antibes, Cannes, Vance etc. and yet only a half hour drive away.

Second visit - same good impression

In 2010 my family for the second time stayed 2 weeks at Bastide and had a wonderful time. It is a large and beautiful house with quality furniture and equipment and at the same time you have the feeling that this is a home where people live. The swimming pond is a fantastic meeting place for all generations and we spent a lot of time in and around the water.

The rental rates are absolutely fair compared to the quality and luxury you get and all services before and under our stay were perfect. We spent much time in and around the beautiful house but there are many interesting excursions to make in the region.

Try this wonderful place and you will not regret it.

A marvelous and magical spot

  • 5 of 5

More than six months later, I can close my eyes and imagine I am sitting on the terrace at Bastide de la Source, sipping rosé and watching the sun reflected off the mountains across the river. This is a truly special spot, and one I hope to return to. It's very unique--the grounds are wild and extensive, with a secret path through the vineyard and under the railroad tracks to access a massive pebble-covered beach along the turquoise blue Var river. There was rain when we first arrived, and we ended up taking mud baths in the amazing black clay mud on the riverbanks--the kids are still talking about it! The swimming pond is spring-fed (from a remarkable elephant-trunk-shaped spout!) so it can be a bit "refreshing," but we spent all day in and out of it despite visiting early in the summer season. Since the photos were taken, the end closest to the island has been filled in to provide a wonderful roped-off shallow area to make the pool work for small children. We were there with our kids right before they turned 3 and 5 and they adored it.

Our group was only 3 adults and 2 children, but two families could easily share the house.

The house was extremely comfortable for our two-week stay, and we thoroughly enjoyed eating at the two outside tables every night, and experimenting with cooking on the outdoor fireplace! I can't say enough about how special the location is. The views are spectacular. The kids loved feeding the big fish in the koi pond every day! There is a commuter train to Nice that stops a couple minutes down the road and takes you into town in 45 minutes or so--very convenient not to have to drive and park. We took day trips to Italy, Monaco, a local fortified village, etc. but it was hard to drag ourselves away from the house!

The only thing to bear in mind is that the driveway comes off a busy road, so you have to be a bit gutsy turning in and out of the gate. We were concerned about noise form the road or train but despite being VERY picky about that sort of thing, neither was a problem.

Ann is a wonderful host and we even enjoyed a lunch together one day!

En fantastisk feriebolig til flere generationer.

  • 5 of 5

This estate lies in the Alpes Maritimes, the area of natural beauty and peace, north of Nice.

The Bastide de la Source is situated on a 13,000 square meter land stretching down to the river Var, 3 km from the medieval village Villars sur Var and approximately 35 km from Nice.

The neighbour village Touët-sur-Var lies perched to the mountain side 5 km to the west of the Bastide.

The citadel in the nearby medieval village Entrevaux is a fabulous sight. It is guarding a narrow pass, has a draw-bridge entrance high across a fast river, and walled walkway zig-zaging up through 20 fortified doorways to a 17th century citadel dominating the surrounding valleys for centuries.

The river Var is year round very watered and therefore rafting is a popular sport in the area.

If you like to play golf, the nearest golf course is just a half hour drive from the house at the ski resort Valberg. Another exciting place to play golf is Europe's highest positioned golf course in Isola 2000. This 18-hole course (5,065 m) is situated 2,000 meters above sea level and was designed by Jean Garaialde who knew how to make golf courses suitable for all levels of play.
