Book it! You won't regret it! Can't wait to go back!
My husband and I had a fabulous time in this cozy cottage! We were so sad when it was time to leave! We rented it for an anniversary getaway in October and it was so perfect. The kitchen is well equipped and has everything you need. The open floor plan and large windows in the kitchen and living area let in beautiful morning sunlight that made it a wonderful place to spend time relaxing and drinking coffee in front of the fireplace. There's cozy nooks everywhere! The back of the house is mostly windows and provide a great view of the beautiful meadow down to the shoreline. This house was perfect for two people but would be a great place for a family. There's a cool loft with a bed and play area you climb a ladder to from the living room. There's also a whole separate house attached, connected to the main house by the deck. It has two beds in it and is extremely spacious. The deck off the back of the house is elevated and has great views of the water. We had a great time paddling around in the kayaks and drinking wine in the hammock. The washer and dryer was great. The whole place just felt like home and you can tell has been well loved by a family. The longer we spent in the house, the more charming details we noticed. It's full of cd's, games, puzzles, books about the area and lots of things to help people reconnect with loved ones and relax.
A note about Anne: Anne is an AMAZING host! The power went out on the entire island and she drove over immediately to check on us, we didn't even call her! She gave us everything we could possibly need and followed up with the power company to find out when the outage would be fixed and communicated that to us. She made sure we had lots of candles and flashlights. This was honestly our favorite night in the house! It was so cozy! Later in the week, she brought over lobsters her friend had caught off the island that day already cooked. She absolutely went above and beyond to make our stay wonderful. We hope to go back one day!
A lovely setting that was spacious, clean, and very comfortable.
We woke up to a beautiful view of the cove, walked down to the edge of the property, sat in Adirondacks with a cup of coffee and breathed in the amazing Maine air. The house is close to restaurants, hiking, art galleries, wineries, etc. We wanted for nothing!
Cottage was perfect for a family get away.
Our first visit to Deer Isle - and a perfect family vacation in a comfortable, well-located cottage. Everything in the write-up is exactly as we found the house, setting and furnishings. Anne was responsive and easy to work with. We didn't need her help during the week we were there, but we visited her nearby photo art gallery and she was as gracious and welcoming as we expected, based on our correspondence prior to arriving.
The meadow and shore access are a short walk from the back deck of the cottage. Tides limit ability to put in and take out a kayak or canoe, but for a few hours on either side of high tide, it is easy to get out on the water. The setting is beautiful and quiet. There is a neighboring house with a different aesthetic (big lawn, cleared trees), but Anne's cottage still feels private.
Inside the house is spacious enough that our family of four never felt constrained or crowded - but at the same time the exposed wood, and comfortable furnishings felt cozy and welcoming. My 21 year old daughter announced within the first days that she wanted the cottage for herself!
The kitchen is fully equipped and functional. A propane gas stove and oven are a real premium among rental properties (in our experience) and it made cooking so much more enjoyable.
The main bedroom was comfortable and big enough. The mattress is adequate, but not great. Our adult kids slept in the bunk house across the deck - which provided privacy on both ends. The loft space is geared for kids; clearance is low and the ladder/staircase is narrow and could be difficult for older folks to navigate. We did not use that space.
One bathroom - always a challenge for a family of four - but it was perfectly fine. The shower was great.
I think that covers all bases. This was our first vacation rental that we all agreed we'd return to rent again without hesitation. Hope to be back there again soon.
Thank you Anne for a terrific place!
Beautiful retreat on Deer Isle
My family enjoyed this beautiful retreat on Deer Isle - one of the most beautiful locations in Maine. It was so relaxing to sit on the porch or in the hammock and look out onto the water. Especially loved using the kayaks to explore the little inlets and swimming with the kids. The owner was very helpful and provided tips about the area and how to order lobsters at the coop. We cooked in most days so it was nice to have a well stocked kitchen of pots and baking pans, lobster tools, etc. Looking forward to coming again soon!
Cozy and relaxing
Nice family getaway, kids loved the water front and being able to go berry picking
