Adam and Bernadette are an Australian couple who have two children, Sebastian and Georgina. Adam left banking in 2014 to pursue an interest in literature and writing, and Bernadette works for a major Swiss bank. They have lived overseas for many years in both London (UK) and Sydney (Australia). They have a large extended family, many of whom live in Dublin.
Adam and Bernadette purchased this apartment in 2014
Having spent many happy weekends in Dublin having 'the craic' with family and friends we bought this apartment in the upmarket village of Malahide and has it designed to our (very high) standard. The work started in September 2013 and was finished just by New Year 2014. We wanted somewhere close to the airport, a truly Irish village, and a quick trip into the city. Malahide ticked all the boxes and more.
What we first loved about our apartment is it's position with a private entrance directly off the village green, and the fact it was south facing. Being from Australia, sun and light are very important to us.
The other great thing is the area, Malahide, which is a friendly Irish village where the locals are welcoming, and because it is an 'up market' area it feels very clean and very safe. and the shops are good. I always come away with too many new shoes :)
We love walking and running (though not the distances we would like to!) and the castle and gardens area are our local track. It is hard to imagine a more beautiful place to exercise, the downside being the temptation to put back all the calories at the food hall and cafe.
If you see the photos you will also know that we love the apartment because it has been beautifully deigned and decorated, Our brief to the designer (the wonderful people at 'Out of the Blue') was to make this the standard of a luxury boutique hotel, but with the feeling of a home - and they got is exactly right.
We know that you will love it as much as we do.
The property is walking distance to everything (one minute to the Eurospar supermarket across the green, one minute in the other direction to the Yacht Marina; two minutes to lots of clothes stores, five minutes to the Dart (train station).
A truly unique feature, and one that you do not really appreciate until you get there, is the absence of the sound of cars driving past - because you are on a park, not a road. It makes for a very peaceful, restful holiday.
Lovely apartment -cleverly functional but also beautiful and clean. Made full use of the oven and hob - all equipment worked well. Quiet location even though it's a stone's throw into the village of Malahide, so a good nights sleep was assured. Small issue the first morning with not enough hot water for our shower, but we had ample hot water the next morning so not sure if we lucked out and showered too late the first morning to get the full benefit of the possibly timed heating? Everything was exactly where Alan and Bernie had indicated and although I set the alarm off as I tried to get in, my instructions kindly told me not to worry, and what steps to take if that happened. Would definitely recommend staying in this apartment.
I really enjoyed staying in Bernie & Adam's place. They really have thought of everything. The apartment is very bright and spacious and so clean. I loved the Malahide area. It's a great village and you are just steps away from a Starbucks and a grocery store plus numerous restaurants and cute shops. I hope to stay there again soon.
We spent four nights here from Aug6-10, we were very impressed by the apartment and the location in Malahide. The photos show exactly how the apartment looks, the furnishings are of good quality and very comfortable. Everything is provided that you could possibly need, in the kitchen and bathroom/bedroom items. We had friends come to visit from Northern Ireland who want to rent here in the future, they loved it! The location is perfect for walks along the coast and onto the beach, and is so close to the village for shopping, restaurants(of which there are many) and great Irish pubs. We will definitely consider returning and would highly recommend this apartment. Thanks Bernie and Adam!
This place was clean and great location. Perfect for the 2 of us. The WIFI was great and nice to have the speaker to play some music. Was very quiet and never heard anyone from the other units. Everyone around helpful to helping us get around. It was our first time to Ireland and was easy with the public transportation right there. Right out front is a little park. A little grocery store is on the other side of park for just about anything. Plenty of restaurants to eat at in walking distance. Absolutely beautiful walks to go on just from the condo. We will be back.

This place will exceed your expectations! Great relaxing location in the seaside village of Malahide, adjacent to and directly accessing the village green. The apartment is at the end of one of the main streets in the village and is part of the marina residential development with good pubs, great restaurants and two local grocery stores all within 2 minutes walk from the front door. Easy access to Dublin central via bus, train or taxi means you can be a tourist and return to your holiday home when you have finished exploring.
The two bedroom apartment is a good size. It is well laid out and furnished (having been recently renovated), with all the required amenities and support material to make any stay very enjoyable. There is ample space and carparking is available if needed.
The tourist information office is in the church recreation building near the coffee shop and is worth a visit to find out about things that are close by. There is plenty to do and see in and around the village plus some very good walks.
Bernie and Adam are extremely attentive and well organised owner. Everything in the apartment works and the instruction booklet covers everything you need to know about appliances, etc.
We are already looking forward to our next visit.
My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed our week's stay in this well thought out and equipped apartment. Comfortable beds and furniture, lovely subtle grey colour scheme, well equipped kitchen, functioning appliances and good layout all made it a joy to stay here. The main attractions for us were:
- the proximity to the scenic beach and parklands ( no swimming as the currents are too strong), but lovely fresh air, beautiful light, changing tides to be experienced in sometimes twice daily walks along the estuary to the sea.
-a visit, guided tour ( the only way to see the castle) and experiencing the castle gardens is a must; lunch and browsing at Avoca, a delight. It's a nice walk to get there from the apartment.
-an unusual variety of good restaurants and coffee shops, great food shopping at Donnybrook Fair, not to mention the most women's clothing shops per square mile we've ever seen in a small village.
- easy train ride in to Dublin or other nearby villages.
The owners were so helpful and generous in their prompt replies to any and all queries and amazed us at how efficiently and generously they dealt with a problem in the unit that was discovered during our stay.
We loved our week in this small corner of heaven!
While retaining its 'village' atmosphere in the centre of the town, Malahide has established a reputation as one of Dublin's most desirable places to live and visit.
It is a picturesque maritime village enjoying a blend of contemporary chic with old-school Irish charm that is as unique as it is captivating earning itself a reputation as a seriously upmarket and cosmopolitan coastal village.
It is a designated Heritage Town that is convenient to both the airport (15 minutes) and Dublin city centre (20 minutes by train).
Admire stylish shop fronts with their hanging baskets lush and overflowing with colour; allow sea breezes to caress your cheeks; be hypnotised by the chime of halyards strumming their masts, join the buzz of chat and laughter from cafes and restaurants and embrace the wonder that is Malahide, Dublin’s favourite seaside village.
Malahide has also acquired a reputation as the gourmet capital of the East Coast of Ireland, with an array of restaurants noted for the quality and variety of their food representing many nationalities. Pubs with traditional music, fine restaurants, excellent shopping, and a quick train ride into the city make it an excellent choice for visitors.
A 'MUST SEE' is the historic Malahide Castle and Gardens, one of Dublin's leading tourist attractions. We encourage you to look at the malahidecastleandgardens website for more detail on the Castle, the 'Demesne' (being the extensive surrounding parkland) and the Village of Malahide. The courtyard area in the castle grounds is home to a new Avoca store, have been recently renovated with a brand new foodhall, cafe and retail store offering visitors from home and abroad a huge range of world famous textiles, food, clothing, homewares & gifts to suit all budgets.
The Demesne and grounds have pleasant walks, play areas, picnic sites, cricket pitch, tennis courts, 9-hole golf course and an 18-hole pitch and putt course. Fun for all the family!
The children’s playground, which is a short walk from the Castle, is split into sections for toddlers and older children. With slides, swings and climbing frames, the playground has something for all ages, including picnic tables where parents can keep an eye out.
The Demesne grounds has plenty of public sporting amenities including the Sports Pavilion (with a small shop for snacks, drinks and sporting equipment) a 9-hole par-3 golf course, with an 18-hole pitch-and-putt course, Tennis & Basketball courts and a Boules area.
Malahide is very popular with holiday makers and tourists, attracting thousands of visitors and foreign language students, visiting Ireland from across the world. Malahide Village is also very popular with visitors from America (USA), and Canada, who come to Ireland to trace their roots and heritage, immerse themselves in local culture, and history and of course, to play golf.
