More than a comfortable holiday home (100m²), La Casa in Collina, without immediate neighborhood and protected from harm by a private olive grove of a hectare, is a little paradise, a haven of peace overlooking the sea Ionian remote from just 5 kms. The side where it overlooks the olive grove, the wide terrace that surrounds offers a superb view of the sea and the Gulf of Taranto but also pleasantly hilly countryside where here and there on the slopes of ravines, graze goats and with sheep in the distance, paths that cross and trails that are lost
The beach of Calopezzati, the village to which the property is below only ten minutes from the house. It is practically deserted all year, except in July where it people a little and August where if it is much more popular, it is not comparable with the beaches in the south of France at that time literally invaded .dropoff window Here, we still have room to expand at his ease and the opportunity to swim freely. Moreover, on the beaches, as these are pebbles or sand, whether furnished or not, pay or free, you go to the south or to the north, you will not have that spoiled for choice. And everywhere a warm, clear water. And if by chance your steps take you one day side Cariati, a famous seaside resort about 15km to the south, do not miss to enjoy the trip to treat yourself to an ice cream at Fortino. It is in the center of the old city to number 1 in Piazza Marconi. Luigi ice were awarded in a national contest. A wonder!
Moved away a little over 10 Kms from Mirto, inevitably you push up the Byzantine Rossano, which is 300 meters above the level of the sea. You wander through its streets and alleys, narrow passageways that lead you Piazza Steri and the Clock Tower. From there, the tour continues through the Cattedrale Nuova where you can admire Madonna archiropita splendid and touching Byzantine Madonna which, according to legend, the dreamer and somewhat sad face was painted by angels. Nearby, in the Diocesan Museum of Sacred Arts, you will discover with wonder the Codex Purpureus extraordinary and invaluable work of the medieval palaeography. But in seeing, surrounded by palm trees, the church of St. Mark, the eleventh century, the Byzantine Calabria will be really noticeable especially palpable. Inside, nothing ostentatious: the rough stone pillars concave domes; a model of harmonious and touching simplicity. Orthodox rite was practiced here until 1949.
A Trapesimi-Rossano (out of town towards Reggio) Calla da Amica, you can, in a beautiful setting of olive trees, eating the "Piana degli Ulivi". The food is very good pizzas. A short distance away, in the countryside, in a wonderful and magical place, the agriturismo "Il Giardino Di Iti" Calla da Iti Rossano (Cs) "the baronessa" will welcome you home and you will serve succulent dishes. In modern Rossano, close to the station, along the level crossing, Calabrian specialties are on the menu of the Trattoria "Al Caseco". In 215 of the via del Lido, the wide avenue on the other side of the station, down to the sea, another friendly trattoria "The Campanna" serves a similar food. Down the same avenue, in a street perpendicular to it, "Il Nido" quite trendy, has chosen a more international food.
Corigliano high-pitched and his ducal castle - Sibari and the remains of the ancient city of Great Greece-Campana, Greco-Roman origins and its giant stones, "Incavallicata" - S. Severina, important historical center of Calabria for the Greek and Norman art are around Rossano, some cities to discover. And always in terms of cultural excursions, those within the regional park of the Sila - additional naturalists - are not to be missed. Longobucco is a small mountain town with a sober and austere beauty as Caloveto, Lorica or Bocchigliero, these shelters built in the late Byzantine period by the inhabitants of the coast, notable for their prehistoric and Byzantine archaeological sites. But besides history, it is also the Sila mountains with an average altitude of between 1200 and 1300 meters with a peak, Mount Botte Donato, which rises to 1928 meters. It is also a forest, vast and deep, with very many species, abounding in mineral wealth, animal and botanical. It is still lakes whose Cecita Lago and Lago Arvo, trout streams, hiking or horseback trekking paths and a paradise for mushroom lovers. And finally, in addition to all this, a ski resort at Camigliatello. Of course, a stay of one or even two weeks requires choices, especially if you are primarily that of relaxation and rest. But, whatever yours, be sure that by coming to spend your holidays in Calabria you will do good. And you will have no regret that you could not do because, for sure, you will come back.
