Derwen Cottages Is A Property Which Can Be Used By Small And Large Groups Alike

Derwen Cottage is an extremely large yet cosy property, perfectly suited for family and friends to visit South Wales for a holiday or special event. Whilst it is close to Cardiff it is ideally located in a rural village next to the village pub perfect for a quiet night after a busy day exploring the area.

Although this house is perfect for a larger group of up to twelve people in total, it can be subdivided to allow flexibility to accommodate smaller groups with an appropriate discount.

The property has the added advantage of a private gate from the garden to the excellent village pub next door.

The total property comprises 3 double bedrooms (2 upstairs and one en suite downstairs), one twin bedroom upstairs, four sofabeds, two further family bathrooms, two living/dining rooms (the main one is 26 x 20 feet) and a snug, a fully fitted kitchen and a separate kitchenette.

Gas central heating with additional heating from a wood burner in the sitting room. Electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher, 3 x TVs (2 with Freeview including 1 with full Sky package), 3 x DVDs, CD/radio, free WiFi, selection of books, games and DVDs available. Fuel, power and starter pack for wood burner included in rent. Bed linen and towels also included in rent. 2 travel cots, highchairs and baby baths are available on request.

The property is very large but still has that cosy and welcoming feel.

The property has it's own private patio area and parking facilities for three (possibly four) cars. Note - there is a BBQ available but we do not provide a gas BBQ because of health and safety concerns. Access to the pub next door is via a private gate at the front of this property, which is also used by the owners.

It is the perfect location for the larger family or group holiday. If you do not believe us then have a look at our reviews!

Please contact us for a quote. It would be useful if you could provide as much detail regarding the visit as possible especially where larger groups are involved. We will consider enquiries from sensible hen and stag groups between 1st October and 30th April only. We have a special two night tariff for these weekends and will be subject to the receipt of a refundable security deposit to cover both noise nuisance and property damage in excess of normal wear and tear.

About Christine and Rob Hughes

We are a local couple that are fortunate to live next door to our holiday cottage and so are fully aware of the perfect location of the property. It has only since we bought the house that we have realised just what is available to visitors to the local area and why so many people book with us. When you grow up in an area sometimes you do not see what is right in front of you!

We put a lot of energy and effort into ensuring that our guests enjoy the experience of staying at our property from initial contact right through to the end of their stay. We are on hand to assist but not interfere and queries are answered as quickly as possible.

Our philosophy is straightforward - create a place that we would love to stay ourselves. And we believe we have succeeded as our reviews will confirm!

Very spacious, spotless and well equipped.

This property was ideal for our needs with a mixed range of adults and children of different ages, all were perfectly accommodated especially with the 2 cottage set up. Both cottages were well equipped with everything that is needed, the basics were provided (tea, coffee, milk, dish washer tablets, washing up liquid, kitchen roll etc). Lots of towels and comfortable bedding were provided too

The location is ideal for beach, walking, mountain biking, site seeing in general (choice of 3 castles :-) and is close enough to Cardiff for a city visit.

Christine and Rob were very helpful with booking and ensuring our stay was perfect.

The pub next door was ideal, we visited twice and where not disappointed with any of the dishes.

We would highly recommend this property to family and friends and hope to go back as there is so much to do in the area it is well worth a second visit.

perfect weekend break

I've just got back from a quiet weekend break with friends. The cottage was perfect for us, had everything we needed and a great location. The pub next door is a massive must, the food was amazing and the owners and staff were so friendly. The owners of the cottage were so helpful and a pleasure to book with. This is the 2nd time I've stayed at the cottage and wouldn't hesitate to go back again!

Great place to stay

We had a fantastic holiday. We were made to feel very welcome and the property was very homely having everything we needed. There was a welcome pack of goodies such as welsh cakes, bread, butter, jam, tea, milk coffee etc. Our daughter was getting married on the Saturday and the lounge was big enough for a hairdresser and make up artist with the bride and seven bridesmaids all preparing for the day. The garden gave us a chance to eat outside, relax and was a lovely backdrop for our photographs. The owner even brought my daughter a present and card and waved us off.

A gate in the garden that led to the local pub allowed us to spend a few odd hours during the week and provided great meals and a chance to unwind.

We would highly recommend this holiday let.

Amazing hen weekend stay

Couldn't have found a better location for a quiet hen weekend away. The cottages were beautiful, even better than the photos. There was plenty of room for all the guests and we all had space to not feel on top of each other. Set in the perfect location, the owners were very welcoming, even nice enough to provide a welcome hamper of food and tea and coffee. We really enjoyed a meal at the pub next door, who were very welcoming and the food was delicious. We have all commented that we would recommend this to everyone we know as someone quiet and peaceful to stay. A home away from home. Will certainly be back

Brilliant property with lovely hosts!

The property was very large inside with lots of space for our hen party of 11. There was an extra bed in the upstairs room which meant only needing to use one sofa bed during our trip. The rooms were huge and very well presented (girls commented it was like a posh hotel!)

Hosts were lovely and had a care package ready on our arrival including eggs, milk, bread, cheese, butter and lots of other bits. Really appreciated this!! Chris greeted us on our arrival and couldn't have been more helpful. There was firewood provided and made for a lovely cosy night in on our first night!

We went for a meal at the pub through the garden gate which was delicious and really well priced... They were also really flexible and fit us in on a Saturday night despite not booking ahead despite being busy!

Can't say enough how lovely the whole experience was!! Will definitely come back if ever heading near to Cardiff again!!!

Impressive homely holiday property a short drive c

This is a fantastic holiday property, beautifully presented with lots of additional homely features. It is decorated and maintained to a very high standard. We liked the great location, situated in a small village but within easy driving distance from both central Cardiff and Cardiff bay. A welcome food pack was very much appreciated on arrival and all our family needs were well catered for. Much thought has been put into making the stay as easy and comfortable as possible. Our family of 9 adults and twin one year old babies had ample room to relax, socialise and thoroughly enjoy the weekend together. We were particularily impressed with the cleanliness and space this property had to offer. The 3 bathrooms, Sky TV, large comfortable lounge and large dining table meant that we did not have to adapt or compromise at any time during our stay. The additional provision of 2 cots and high chairs, all of a high standard, at no additional cost was an added bonus.

We all wished that we had booked for a few days longer, as we had no time to sample the recommended pub next door or chance to take advantage of the pretty garden area.

I would highly recommend it and as a family we have already discussed a return trip.

Things to do - too many to mention ...........

Activities - walking, fishing, golf. The local area has many golf courses including the world famous Celtic Manor Resort, the venue for the 2010 Ryder Cup.

Entertainment - Derwen Cottages are ideally situated for Cardiff's Principality Stadium as well as other venues such as the Motorpoint Arena, the St David's Centre and the Millennium Centre. Doctor Who and Torchwood location spotting is a popular pastime in this area.

Sports - the Principality Millennium Stadium is within easy reach as is the Cardiff City Stadium the home of Cardiff City Football Club, Cardiff Arms Park the ground of the Cardiff Blues and also the Swalec Stadium which is a Test venue as well as the homeground of Glamorgan Cricket Club.

Seaside - Barry Island, Porthcawl and Ogmore are all less than an hour away. The Gower Peninsular is a popular area for a day out.

Heritage Sites - Big Pit, Rhondda Heritage Park and St Fagans for a start.

Eating out - Derwen Cottages are conveniently situated to a family run public house and restaurant. The Cefn Mably Arms has a full menu and is highly recommended if you just want a quiet meal and drink at the end of the day without the hassle of driving. There are also many other country pubs and restaurants in the area as well as Cardiff Bay for the more adventurous
