Wonderful! Wonderful! Wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

My husbands, thirteen-year old granddaughter, and I spent several days here in July and had a simply marvelous time. If you're looking for a fast paced vacation spot this isn't it, but if you are into quiet, beauty, and seclusion this is the place for you.

The road leading to the cottage was the only drawback as far as we were concerned, but coming from Vermont, we have seen much worse during mud season. The road forces you to slow down, relax, and take it easy. We didn't make unnecessary trips back and forth to town. We did things with intension. For us...that was a good thing.

We found that everything was very clean, well stocked, and well labeled. The beds were comfortable and the curtains kept the room dark and perfect for sleeping. We loved the solarium and enjoyed watching huge cruise ships glide silently past our little hideaway. We did have some trouble locating the WiFi password, but it was so nice to be without the outside world intruding on our vacation that when I finally found it, I waited another day to tell the others. Shhhh.

We took a day trip around the perimeter of the Kintyre peninsula. It was glorious! Highly recommend it.

We stayed in four different lodgings during our trip to Scotland and French Farland was the favorite of all of us. We hope our path brings us back here one day.

French farland.

  • 5 of 5

Stayed beginning September for 1 week. Really comfortable spacious cottage . Everything you need for the stay is provided. Very clean. Great shower. Very comfortable living room. Conservatory draws the attention to the great views overlooking Loch Fyne and saw lots of herons and gannets over the loch. Also red squirrels populate the area. Got a good sighting of one in the lane.A beautiful garden surrounds the cottage with a little stream from the hills draining into the loch. We were very comfortable and happy staying there. The only word of caution is that the lane leading to the cottage from the main highway is just short of 1 mile in distance and is very bumpy and full of potholes so caution is required when driving on it. Just drive very slowly and it's ok. Beautiful location if you like peace and quiet.

Idyllic setting

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely few days at French Farland. The cottage was very clean and the laundry smelt clean. It is a very comfortable little cottage. It's situation right on the Loch is amazing and you feel that you have the water just to yourself. We saw plenty of wildlife whilst staying there. My son was followed constantly in his kayak by a seal trying to nick the fist he was trying to fly catch (clever!). We also saw red squirrel up the lane further towards Furnace. The cottage itself seems a little tired and needs a bit of an update. The conservatory leaked when it rained but this did not cause too much of a problem as it was so warm in there that it soon dried up but I would imagine this could be more of a problem in the winter. I am sure that Kate will get this fixed. There is no dining table and chairs and this was somewhat uncomfortable as we like to sit down as a family at least for breakfast. I did mention this and was told that there is a foldaway table in one of the bedrooms, however, I am not sure the chairs would have bee the right height for a table. The lane leading up the cottage is a nightmare but to be fair if you want the sort of seclusion that this cottage offers then it is worth it. We have. a 4x4 and I think we would have struggled had we have not. There is also no refuse collection at the cottage which was not made clear in the details. I had to google to find out. I think Stephanie, the caretaker, does take rubbish when she comes to clean the cottage at the end of your stay from the bin outside but if you have a lot of rubbish this would be spilling over. There is a bin at the bottom of the lane just before the caravan site that you can put rubbish in. There is plenty of information in terms of maps and things to do in the cottage and lots of board games and dvd's/videos/books. It really is a home from home. The shower is amazing but has it is attached to a normal boiler (not a combi) you need to make sure you leave the water heater on long enough to get enough water if there are a family of you otherwise you end up with a real shock of a cold shower. Inveraray is lovely and I would recommend "The George". We never got round to trying Samphire. We tried the new Indian and the food there was good. Inverarary castle was good for a day when it was raining. Overall a fantastic place to stay!

Adorable cottage directly on Lake Fyne

  • 4 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in French Farland. There were plenty of things for us to do, even with a toddler, and sitting in the solarium, even when the weather was not optimal, was really pleasant. It was so peaceful to watch the changes on the loch with the changing weather patterns. We would recommend some updates to the kitchen/dining situation but it was still a great place and we highly recommend it!
