Simple gal who loves sport.....
Julia Preece, Home Cornwall purchased this cottage in 2011
Sport! And great views - watching the tide come and go is fascinating and different every day! I'm glad to share it with others and happy to have Home Cornwall as my agent and housekeeper.
Level walk to the beach. Welcome gifts. Home from home!
We stayed in the cottage during August 2016. The location of the property is excellent, right next to the harbour with an easy walk to the beach. The property itself is lovely, all the bedrooms are of a good size and comfortably appointed. The décor throughout is well thought through and pleasant. The kitchen has everything you could need including an emergency supply cupboard just in case you forget anything. The beds are all comfortable and the bathroom is a good size.
We did smell the infamous seaweed (?) smell but it was only very pungent on our last night. Otherwise we did not notice anything apart from the usual seaside smell.
I must mention that from booking to our stay communication with the property manager, Julia, was excellent. She answered all our queries promptly and fully which was much appreciated along with the welcome gifts.
Do note that whilst there is parking by the house all the spaces were busy in for much of the week we stayed so we had to park on the road to the beach. This was free so that was no problem and it was only a short walk to the property.
We enjoyed our stay ,plenty to do even in january.and the locals are very friendly.
The cottage was really homely & spacious with everything you needed. In great location overlooking the harbour. After days out exploring Cornwall looked forward to coming back to relax. Portreath is beautiful & unspoilt & all three pubs are welcoming & dog friendly. Great holiday thanks very much for all the extras, grandchildren loved the toys & adults enjoyed the wine & cream tea.
A lovely welcome to the cottage with the best selection of welcome gifts we've ever had and no essentials missing in the house, so no emergency shopping for cleaning kit and milk, etc.
It's kept immaculately inside too, with a lovely kitchen/diner area, a nice lounge and comfortable bedrooms. As well as the main bathroom upstairs, the downstairs shower as you come in by the back door is really handy for washing off if you've been to the beach or surfing/boarding and there's an outside tap you can wash sand off with too.
Well kitted out with TV, games, etc. and only a few minutes walk from Portreath Beach. If there's one let down it is the harbour - which is fine when full of water, but it's not surrounded by the prettiest of housing and is a bit smelly when there is no water in it around low tide. Nothing the cottage owner can do about that, and it's not a disaster, but neither is it the plus point you might hope for.
Overall, couldn't imagine how the owner could do a better job with the property and Portreath has a good mix of a nice beach itself, and easy access to other parts of Cornwall.
This is a fabulous place to stay. Portreath is a wonderful find with very friendly people. The house was great with all you need and more. The welcome gifts of food and presents added to the feel. Overlooking the harbour was brilliant with a the sights, sounds and smells of the coast that it brings. Well presented and maintained property with excellent features including two bath/shower rooms, big kitchen diner with all appliances and log burner in lounge ( didn't use it in July!). The village is very nice and all three pubs do excellent food so worth visiting. The surf shop is very good and hire is cheap, the staff are very friendly and know their stuff! We had a surf lesson which was very good and well worth doing.
All in all a great place to be!
On arrival, we were delighted with our gifts and the food parcel left. There was fresh bread, scones, butter, clotted cream, jam and saffron buns as well as milk, eggs and orange juice. Very grateful for this after our long journey. The house has everything you need, was clean and we all had a very enjoyable and comfortable stay. The location was great, few minutes walk to the beach, pubs and shop and bakery. However, when the tide is out, the harbour can feel a bit smelly and takes some getting used to, but a small compromise for its great location. We all loved our stay in Cornwall, made all the better from having a lovely home from home.
