Charming Terraced Cottage, Sleeps 5, 2 Bathrooms, Private Terrace & Dog Friendly

Perfect for an early summer break. See our early year prices!

Right on the edge of the harbour, only a couple of minutes level walk from the sandy beach of Portreath is this charming terraced house with all main rooms looking onto the bobbing fishing boats.

Quayside cottage has been recently updated and fitted with all modern facilities. Three bedrooms (two with direct water views) offer very comfortable accommodation currently laid out with...

Bedroom One - 5' bed in the main bedroom

Bedroom Two - twin beds or super king bed in the second bedroom with space for cot.

Sun Room - Also serves for teenagers not wanting to share or those who prefer ground floor sleeping. A good quality daybed is available on request.

There is a shower room on the ground floor and a bath and shower room on the first floor - all with unlimited hot water!

The multi fuel burner in the living room is great for chilly evenings. Welcome goodies include a basket of wood and coal and wine!

Approaching easily from the main route through Cornwall towards St Ives, the entrance into Portreath is stunning as you look down onto the view across Gull Rock. Exploring the coves by kayak or coastering is exhilarating and all ages love tomb stoning off the harbour steps at high tide. The beach is guarded well by one of the largest Surf Living Saving Clubs in Cornwall, providing safe bathing for children with rock pools for studying, jumping and paddling.

Mountain biking the mining tracks to the southern side of Cornwall and stopping for a pub lunch in Devoran is a must. Walks through the valley to Tehidy Woods provides a superb adventure taking you to a circular walk to return by the South West Coastal Path.

For the more sporty golf is available at Tehidy Golf and Country Club and Gwel an Mor provides (for a small fee) an indoor pool, gym, steam room and sauna. Spot the raindeer on the walk through the woods!

Only 10 minutes by car or a good long walk or bike will take you to Hells Mouth and the possibility to see the seals in their secret cove; Gwithian with its famous Sandsifter fun pub and surfing, plus the National Trust's café and lighthouse at Godrevy.

Quayside Cottage has both a front terrace overlooking the harbour with sunshine for breakfast until lunch and a private courtyard and sunroom at the rear with sheltered sunshine from lunchtime late into the evening. A fire pit for BBQ's and chimenea available.

Local services include Costcutter, Portreath Bakery, two surf shops, three pubs and a restaurant. Buses run regularly to Redruth and Camborne where there are main supermarkets and other shops. Great location

  • 4 of 5

We stayed in the cottage during August 2016. The location of the property is excellent, right next to the harbour with an easy walk to the beach. The property itself is lovely, all the bedrooms are of a good size and comfortably appointed. The décor throughout is well thought through and pleasant. The kitchen has everything you could need including an emergency supply cupboard just in case you forget anything. The beds are all comfortable and the bathroom is a good size.

We did smell the infamous seaweed (?) smell but it was only very pungent on our last night. Otherwise we did not notice anything apart from the usual seaside smell.

I must mention that from booking to our stay communication with the property manager, Julia, was excellent. She answered all our queries promptly and fully which was much appreciated along with the welcome gifts.

Do note that whilst there is parking by the house all the spaces were busy in for much of the week we stayed so we had to park on the road to the beach. This was free so that was no problem and it was only a short walk to the property.

Lovely property overlooking the harbour

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was really homely & spacious with everything you needed. In great location overlooking the harbour. After days out exploring Cornwall looked forward to coming back to relax. Portreath is beautiful & unspoilt & all three pubs are welcoming & dog friendly. Great holiday thanks very much for all the extras, grandchildren loved the toys & adults enjoyed the wine & cream tea.

A good base for Portreath and great touches inside

  • 4 of 5

A lovely welcome to the cottage with the best selection of welcome gifts we've ever had and no essentials missing in the house, so no emergency shopping for cleaning kit and milk, etc.

It's kept immaculately inside too, with a lovely kitchen/diner area, a nice lounge and comfortable bedrooms. As well as the main bathroom upstairs, the downstairs shower as you come in by the back door is really handy for washing off if you've been to the beach or surfing/boarding and there's an outside tap you can wash sand off with too.

Well kitted out with TV, games, etc. and only a few minutes walk from Portreath Beach. If there's one let down it is the harbour - which is fine when full of water, but it's not surrounded by the prettiest of housing and is a bit smelly when there is no water in it around low tide. Nothing the cottage owner can do about that, and it's not a disaster, but neither is it the plus point you might hope for.

Overall, couldn't imagine how the owner could do a better job with the property and Portreath has a good mix of a nice beach itself, and easy access to other parts of Cornwall.

Excellent holiday destination and property

  • 5 of 5

This is a fabulous place to stay. Portreath is a wonderful find with very friendly people. The house was great with all you need and more. The welcome gifts of food and presents added to the feel. Overlooking the harbour was brilliant with a the sights, sounds and smells of the coast that it brings. Well presented and maintained property with excellent features including two bath/shower rooms, big kitchen diner with all appliances and log burner in lounge ( didn't use it in July!). The village is very nice and all three pubs do excellent food so worth visiting. The surf shop is very good and hire is cheap, the staff are very friendly and know their stuff! We had a surf lesson which was very good and well worth doing.

All in all a great place to be!

Lovely holiday in lovely location

  • 4 of 5

On arrival, we were delighted with our gifts and the food parcel left. There was fresh bread, scones, butter, clotted cream, jam and saffron buns as well as milk, eggs and orange juice. Very grateful for this after our long journey. The house has everything you need, was clean and we all had a very enjoyable and comfortable stay. The location was great, few minutes walk to the beach, pubs and shop and bakery. However, when the tide is out, the harbour can feel a bit smelly and takes some getting used to, but a small compromise for its great location. We all loved our stay in Cornwall, made all the better from having a lovely home from home.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your comments and enjoying our home. In respect of the harbour... at certain times in the year there are rough seas and this brings in large amounts of weed, the harbour and council people did try to remove it just before you were here and we think it may have made it worse than normal. As you say this is all part of being on a harbour...some even like it! Hopefully next time you come it will be much better ;o). Here's wishing you lots of lovely holidays to come.
