Before you even step into the entrance of the shangri-la valley, you can smell the pungent sweetness of the lush melons, watermelons and plum trees.

The valley is alive with the song of birds and you can hear the rustling of small animals on either sides of the path to the grape trees terrace. Yet, the gardens are empty of people, you will be the only visitor to this paradise.

As you wander farther into the gardens of eden, sunlight becomes softer, filtered by the leaves of the ancient olive, fig and almond trees.

The beaches:

• Cala san Vicente, a wide sandy beach, less then 5 min away (3.2km by car). There's always room for your kids to play or just to lay down and enjoy the sun.

• Cala ses caletes, one of those beaches hidden from mass tourism to enjoy sunbathing in full privacy (1.6km as the crow flies) or just 7min of your precious holiday time to find that peace and tranquillity also on the shores.

Even for die-hard swimmers and sunbathers, sometimes a day at the beach is anything but. You know the drill: too many people, too much noise, not nearly enough serenity to enjoy the majesty of blue skies and white-crested waves.

The good news is that there are still undiscovered beaches out there, blissful hideaways where tourism hasn’t yet eclipsed the local culture. Ses caletes is one of them.

Spacious and clean villa with great outside kitchen. But could be improved to make stay better

This is a nice villa. It's spacious and clean as the photos suggest.

However there a couple of things we found frustrating:

1.There is only minimal paving around the swimming pool. The rest of the outside area - where the outdoor table and sun beds are situated - have no paving so when you are walking barefoot you are walking on gravel. It would be so easy to pave the whole area and we feel the owner should invest to do so

2. The pool and sun beds don't get much afternoon sun due to a huge pine tree shading the area. Another reason to extend the outside area, as above.

Also while we were staying at the property we were told we would receive receive eggs and veggies from the allotment but this only happened twice in the two weeks. It turns out the owner was away on holiday but we hadn't been told this so we were expecting something that never came!!

We did however enjoy taking the kids into the orchard to pick fruit from the fruit trees and make our own orange juice.

On the plus side, the villa is very quiet and it isn't overlooked. There's also a big outdoor BBQ and kitchen. And it's only a short drive from Cala San Vincente which is a lovely place.
