Completely renovated property with a majestic entrance courtyard and a barn (closed for the tenants). Tree-lined garden (1ha/2,5 acres) with a secured heated pool. 5 bedrooms, 4 bath or shower rooms, 5 WC. Living room (90sq.m) with high class open-plan kitchen in a veranda. At the cross of all tourist sites of the Périgord Noir region. Centre of Sarlat only 20 minutes away. But many other activity and sights around. A brochure in english about the close neighborhoods can be provided on demand.

The house was renovated between 2013 and 2015. Main home applicances renewed in 2017 and 2018. It provides complete privacy, combined with a private heated and secured swimming pool (4mx9m). The garden measures over 1ha (2,5 acres). Dominant view in the area is one of countryside, woods and surrounding hills. The property is located in a calm hamlet and is not overlooked.

Interior description:


On the ground floor:

* Spacious living room (90sq.m), allowing a harmonious communication between inside and outside. Perfect for a summer stay, as the front side of the house gives access to an equipped private terrace. On the rear side, a small balcony with stairs allows you to descend to the back terrace overlooking the pool and the huge rear garden. Including

- Sitting room, dressed around the monumental chimney

- Dining area with an ancient, massive wooden table, eight couches (S Panton type) and three high chairs for children (age 2-6).

- High quality open-plan kitchen with garden view from every window, fully equipped with polished concrete kitchen top and a furnished bar. All electro appliances are new and upscale: big oven, microwave oven, 5 ring vitro-ceramic hob, extractor fan, dishwasher, toaster, capsule coffee machine, kettle, refrigerator/freezer, ...

* Laundry room (in the tower adjoining the dining area) equipped with washing machine and dryer.

* Separate WC

The night suites are located on the first and garden floor. All of them are accessible from the inside; bedrooms on garden floor are also accessible from the outside. This allows, for example, two families travelling together to have their own space.

Upstairs night suite (2 bedrooms and 2 shower rooms with toilets):

* The landing offers a small private sitting space.

* On the left: access to a first room, equipped with a double bed (160 cm x 200), bedside tables, chest of drawers and a wardrobe. It provides of a private shower room in the adjoining tower, containing a balneotherapy shower, a washing basin and a toilet.

* The second room on the first floor is situated at the right side of the landing. This one has two single beds (90cmx200 each, not attachable), bedside tables, chest of drawers and a wardrobe. It also provides a private bathroom with shower, washing basin and a toilet.

Air-conditioning is available upstairs (useless at ground and garden level, as the walls are 120cm thick).

You will find the second night suite on garden level (3 bedrooms en suite, 2 bathrooms and 2 toilets):

* The central room can be either a second private sitting corner or a comfortable sleeping place for two people (two convertible sofa beds, with very confortable mattresses, 100 cm x 200 each). The room has direct access via the stairs on ground floor, but it is isolated by a sliding door which is backed up with a curtain. Garden views.

* There is a bedroom with 1 single bed on the left, with a private entry on the courtyard. It also provides a private bathroom with a large corner bath, washbasin and toilet. Both bedroom and bathroom dispose of a garden view.

* On the right hand side, you’ll find a double bedroom with a double bed (160 cm x 200), bedside tables, cabinet and chest of drawers. The room has its private entry through a French window, leading to the rear terrace and garden. It also provides a tiled shower room with walk-in shower and washbasin.

* A separate toilet with washbasin completes this floor.

The 3 bedrooms are en suite, separated by a door dubbed with a curtain each. They also have an independent access each (on ground floor or through the exterior).

Bathrooms, showers and bathtub have been renovated during the summer of 2013. Main home appliances renewed in 2017 and 2018.

Wireless internet, fixed telephone line (local calls) available. Satellite television and sound system located on ground floor.

Central heating available during the low season.

Upstairs is air conditioned. Considering thickness of the walls, temperature on ground and garden level always stay fresh… even during a period of heavy heat.

Outside description:


* Majestic walled courtyard in front of the house. This yard to the right includes a small, romantic garden in the shadow of centuries-old trees. To the left you will find a beautiful barn (property owners use it as a warehouse, not accessible to guests)

* Terrace to the front of the house, on the entry porch.

* Terrace to the rear of the house, overlooking the pool.

* Heated private pool (4mx9m), equipped with an electric roller cover (children's safety). Opened from mi-april to end september. It is situated in the rear garden, about 10m further below the house.

* Slightly inclining garden (1ha/2,5 acres) in the rear, with a magnificent view over the countryside and the surrounding hills.

Garden furniture (and parasols) at disposal on the different terraces and at the poolside.

The propriety is located in a hamlet but very quiet, most of the time almost empty (secondary houses of a dutch family). Nor the house nor the garden are overlooked.

About Saugier Fabienne

I live and work in Paris. This property is the secondary residency of our 4-person family, mainly visiting with friends. Sadly enough, because of the distance, we visit it too few times. We bought the house in 2012 and restored it completely in 2013/2014 and keep on improving it. Our first rental season during 2014 turned out just perfect. A professional takes care of the place, welcomes and assists the tenants, and assures the organisation of housekeeping. We sadly lost our first ratings on the website for having replaced our announcement in 2014.

The property is located in a rural hamlet of a few houses occupied year-round + seasonal rentals. Very international during summer. Quiet neighborhood, (neighbour only on the left, we are at the end of hamlet. Most of the time empty. No nuisance nor vis-à-vis). What you will come across most often in the hamlet : some free-range chickens in the village with the cock, one or two hunting dogs, rabbits and squirrels and night claiming by road deer family. The courtyard is enclosed by walls. Well sound insulated home. At the crossing of all places of interests in Périgord Noir

An excellent holiday property and venue

We were all delighted with our holiday at this excellent property in the Dordogne. The accommodation was great for the six of us and would easily house 8 people. It was spacious, cool when it was very hot outside and very well appointed. It had everything that you might need and the kitchen was particularly well equipped.

We made maximum use of the beautiful pool which definitely benefitted from being heated. The constant 28º C was a delight for the children and adults alike. There was plenty of outside shade and the umbrellas around the pool and the house were a definite bonus as the weather was sunny and very warm for the whole of the 2 weeks that we were at Le Pigeonnier at the end of June. We all enjoyed the various seating areas which maximised the use of either sun or shade depending on the time of day. We particularly liked sitting looking at the distant view each evening with a cool drink, guessing how many hot air balloons we might see in the distance!

Quite a bit of wildlife to keep us all alert too. Numerous birds including treecreepers and hoopoes; red squirrels, deer, hare in the garden and many chickens, goats, dogs and cats, frogs etc in the neighbouring farm. Plenty to keep the children interested!

The nearby villages were exciting to explore and a delight for the occasional coffee and lunch. Shopping for essentials was very easy and the information in the house directed us to the best supermarkets and boulangeries. Shops in Daglan were close. The Pilo in Cénac was excellent for a vast range of breads and unbelievable cakes and pastries. We visited most of the small and larger markets in the area, all listed in the house book, each had it’s own particular benefit. The Truffle Market in Daglan proved very interesting and obviously focused on local summer truffles. We found leaving early for the market in Sarlat was good advice from David the pool cleaner. We missed all the traffic into Sarlat and found parking easy. Get there by 9.00 am if you can and enjoy breakfast in the square!

The owner, Fabienne, was extremely friendly throughout the booking process, while we were at the property and following our return to the UK. She couldn’t have been more helpful.

We had a wonderful time at Le Pigeonnier and would highly recommend it to our friends and family.

A beautiful house in a fantastic location.

What a fantastic place! We stayed at the beginning of September and had a wonderful time. The house is bright, spacious and very well designed. The living area is large and was perfect for our group that consisted of two families (4 adults and 5 children ranging from 7 -16 years old).

The kitchen is fabulous, it has everything you could possibly want or need, with a stunning view to match. If you like to cook, this is the place to do it as it’s better equipped than my kitchen at home! The owner, Fabienne, left us some delicious wine and all of the essentials such as teabags, olive oil, sugar, salt, washing up liquid etc, which was a very nice personal touch.

The garden is vast, with a super swimming pool surrounded by sun loungers and has breathtaking view of the local countryside. There is a barbecue and seating area where we enjoyed several alfresco meals whilst watching the hot air balloons rise over the hills in the evening.

The bathrooms are all very clean and have fantastic showers. The beds are comfortable and there is ample space in each room for clothes storage.

There are beautiful pieces of antique furniture mixed with the contemporary which works very well. We particularly liked the pastel-painted drawers which complemented the shadows cast by the incredible overhead light shade in the living room - amazing attention to detail all round.

The location is perfect for exploring near by Daglan, Domme and Sarlat. The nearest supermarket is in Cénac-et-Saint-Julien - a 10 minute drive away, which has everything, including a very good butchers, cheese counter and very reasonably priced wine. The town also has a fantastic Artisan Boulangerie, 'Les Delices de Pito' where you can buy delicious fresh croissants, pastries and bread from early in the morning.

To sum up, we were delighted with this holiday home and wish we could have stayed longer. It has everything you could possibly want and left us all feeling very relaxed. Thank you Fabienne.

Lovely house in a beautiful location.

We stayed in this lovely house with our family, 8 of us in total for the first week in September. The house is charming and full of character, and has been renovated to a very high standard. The bedrooms were very comfortable and the fact that each room had an en suite bathroom made things very convenient eg: no queuing for the shower. The house was spacious enough to accommodate 3 generations of our family easily, ( the youngest being 20 months). We all had our own space and the kitchen was well equipped and big enough for several of us to be working in there at the same time. The weather we had was so good that nearly all of our meals were eaten outside on the patio overlooking the pool, and there is also a barbecue that we used one evening. Breakfast was always eaten inside on the large family table. Fresh bread and croissants can be bought from the boulangere in the nearby village of Daglan. The heated pool was constantly in use and was big enough for all, and it was the area for lots of fun and games.

The owner Fabienne Saugier is very helpful and replied to all my emails within a day, and the caretakers of the property are friendly and accessible. We didn't need to bother them when we were there as everything was perfect.

The house is positioned in a truly beautiful area and there are many places to visit nearby, but the weather was so good and the house so tranquil and comfortable most of our days were spent relaxing around the pool.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this house and my only regret is that we couldn't stay for longer.

Fabulous country home!

Our family (including 2, twenty-something sons) stayed in this house for 6 nights in early May and loved every minute of it! The house is beautiful and the location is really lovely. The home is spacious, light-filled, and well-equipped with everything we needed. We enjoyed the pool and the wonderful views from the huge yard. The kitchen is large and terrifically well stocked. The open living room and dining room were perfect for lounging, and the many bedrooms offered a variety of choices for all of us. The location was very convenient - an easy drive to many charming villages and gorgeous scenery.

The owner, Fabienne, couldn't have been nicer. She was attentive to lots of small details which helped make our stay a good one, was very responsive to all of our questions, and provided lots of local information about sights, restaurants, etc.

We hope to be back again, and would certainly recommend the house to friends and family who are looking for an idyllic place to vacation.

Magnifique semaine en Perigord ....

…. et surtout dans cette belle maison pleine de charme et où l'on se sent immédiatement chez soi - tout y est : verdure , calme , confort , ouverture sur la campagne . Nous avions tous les ingrédients nécessaires à des vacances propices à la détente et à la découverte des merveilleux sites qui entourent la Dordogne et se trouvant dans un très proche périmètre ; très appréciable lorsqu'on a des enfants.

Un grand merci à Mme Saugier , sa propriétaire, qui fut toujours à notre écoute et très attentive dans les moindres détails pour nous rendre ce séjour très agréable

The property is located in a very tranquil, picturesque hamlet (with 12th century bread oven) in the Périgord Noir region, between Cénac-et-Saint-Julien and Daglan (Gmaps : Plavard, Bouzic). The latter, a mere 3km or 5min car drive away, is where you will find all basic shops needed. Daglan also hosts an excellent gastronomic restaurant and a British snack bar. Cénac (8min drive away) has a hypermarket, gas station, pharmacy, .... Sarlat city center : 20 mn drive, 15 km

However in a very appeasing environment, the house is located on a real crossing point of Périgord and Lot tourist zones: Sarlat and the Dordogne river valley to the north; Lascaux and the Vallée de l'Homme to the northwest; Gourdon, Rocamadour and the Lot river region to the east and southeast; Quercy and the bastides region in the south.

North of Daglan, you will find the majestic Périgord Noir region. This means villages or towns like Sarlat, La Roque-Gageac, Domme, Beynac, Gourdon and castles like Château de Castelnaud, Château de Montfort and Château des Milandes are all nearby. For sports activities such as canoeing and mountain biking you can easily visit the Dordogne river banks (10 mn). Lascaux and the Vallée de l'Homme are a 40min drive away. On the way, you will find numerous caves.

Located south of Daglan are the charming Quercy region and the Pays des Bastides (land of bastides, a type of fortified cities). These villages are just as beautiful as the Périgord towns, but the environment is a bit less touristy.

You will find a tourist information office in Daglan. Markets in the neigborhood are organised almost daily during the high season. Nocturnal markets occur twice a week. In Sarlat-La-Canéda (20min drive away) many festivals and events are organised. In this place you will also find tourist activities all year long.

The broad region possesses an exceptional natural, architectural and culinary heritage.

Climate is very warm during summer, while mid-seasons are truly enjoyable.
