A Lovely Week in Maine
The cottage is lovely. The deck is huge and comfortable. There is a shower out side by the teak table on the deck so when you return from the beach, you can rinse the sand and salt off. We would sit out side in the sun and dry off after the shower, when we returned from the beach. We also ate breakfast out there every morning. The deck is lovely. At first we had a little trouble locating the path down to beach. It is between two houses at the very end of the road. We felt as though we should not be walking through there, but we were assured by the neighbors that it was the correct way to the beach. We loved the beach and spent hours there eveyday, we brought our own floats and floated around. Our dogs loved it - splashing around, chasing bubbles and waves. We were always the only ones on the beach. The view from the beach was lovely, and we would also watch the lobster fisherman work their traps. There are pretty shells and some beach glass to collect, and lovely rocks also, if you enjoy that sort of thing, which I do. The cottage itself is roomy, bright, airy and so clean. We immediately felt comfortable and at home, although we did not spend much time indoors. We drove down to Osier's dock and picked up breakfast and dinner to eat on the lovely deck back at the cottage. We went into Damariscotta and rented DVDs/movies at Hannaford's to watch at night - 2 movies - 2 nights $1.49, that is so cheap in comparison to where we live. There is a little road side hut on Rt. 1 in Damariscotta called Larson's Lunch Box and it has the best lobster rolls in Maine, that we ever had and we could get our cell phone service there and I could use my laptop and get our wireless internet service as we sat on a picnic table and enjoyed our dinner. Out by the cottage, if you drive on past Osier's and keep going for about 10 minutes, you will wind up in one of the loveliest places in the world and there is a restaurant there on the bay. We drove all around there, snapping pictures. We hated leaving, the week went so quickly. I can recommend this lovely cottage with total enthusiasm and would love to go back - tomorrow and stay there forever.
Loved the quaint, peaceful cottage! Perfect location, felt remote but convenient to restaurants and day trips to surrounding areas! Monhegan Island, Hardy Boat Cruises, Camden, Aquarium and of course Pemaquid Light!
A quintessential Maine cottage.
S> Bristol area is my favorite area of Maine. Great location - walk to a private beautiful sandy cove. A quick drive to the Gut gas, ,Osier`s store & fresh cooked seafood. Nice hiking trails across the street.New Harbor, Pemaquid, Damariscotta 20 mins. away. 1 hour from Rockport/Camden.
The cottage was VERY comfortable & CLEAN. Nice deck to relax or eat dinner. 2 Nice screened porches too. Where ever you look you`ll be surrounded by the se, pines & beauty of Maine.
Classic Maine Coastal Cottage
We had a wonderful time at Sloop Nellie. Our dog Chance loved it and had his first swim in the ocean. We have spent nearly every summer in Maine, renting cottages and camps all over the mid-coast region and this was our favorite location yet. Normally we travel all over the region when we are there but this trip our furthest drive was the annual Boothbay Harbor shopping and dining trip. There is so much to do in the area, be sure to go to Cupboard Cafe for breakfast. Take a cruise on the Hardy Boat Puffin Tour. Go to the Pemiquid Lighthouse and stop at the wonderful Craftsman's coop on Rt 130 in New Harbor across from the Ice Cream stand. The Wiscasset, Waterville and Farmington Railway museum in Alna is a great place for the whole family, I could go on for ever. As other reviews have said the owners parents are the caretakers and made us feel like family.
We highly recommend this cottage for anyone looking for the classic Maine coast vacation.
We really enjoyed our stay...
We had absolutely everything we needed, the beds were comfy, and there was a beach for exploring just down the road, as well as the Thompson Ice House round the corner. The owner's parents were very kind and welcoming with us. We really enjoyed our stay there with our two young children.
Lovely clean, bright airy cottage convenient to so much!
We have rented the cottage at Sloop Nellie every August since 2007. We love the little beach, & always find sea glass there. There are so many points of interest just a short ride away. There are so many wonderful places to either eat out at or take out. For the past three years we have rented the cottage for two weeks because we found one week was just not enough to see & do all the wonderful things there are to enjoy in Maine. I can not recommend this lovely cottage highly enough.
There are many coves, islands and estuaries to explore by canoe or kayak right from the sandy beach.
Christmas Cove on Rutherford Island is a mile or two down the road. Dine at Coveside Restaurant with spectacular views of Christmas Cove.
A public golf course is 10 minutes away.
Damariscotta is 20 minutes away where you will find fine restaurants, shopping, movie theater, grocery store and kayak/canoe rentals.
Boothbay Harbor is a quick 40 minutes away for more shopping, restaurants and other interesting places.
Pemaquid lighthouse & beach, puffin & island tours, walking trails, historical sites, antique shops, and more are all nearby.
Freeport, home of LL Bean, is 90 minutes away where there are outlet shopping and fine restaurants.
Other Activities: canoe & kayak
