The Chautaugua is the ultimate beach experience "Best Beach, Location & House". Rates are based on Renting the entire 3 Stories that sleeps 21. Call to get a discount if you only need the Main House that sleeps 15 or less (See Video for number).

Lovingly rebuilt in 2005 from the studs up to maintain the integrity of the original 1926 craftsman bungalow with painstaking attention to detail: Original heart of pine floors, bead board & claw foot tub. Everything else new: New cherry gourmet kitchen with double ovens. New stone baths. New Stone Floors on the entire first floor. New electric/plumbing/ drywall/windows- Everything new but “In Period” and 1st Class. There is not a more charming Vacation Rental available.

HOW IS THE BEACH?

Best in Town: Since Beaches vary so widely, I will try to point out the main differences. You should ask for details if you are considering anything other than a home on 1st to 18th Street.

First is the Powder Sand. The Chautauqua’s sand is like powder-not coarse ground up shells like some. Great for drip castles!

Second, at The Chautauqua the ocean is right “At Your Door Step”. There is no long raised boardwalk with a 5 minute walk across the dunes to navigate with the cooler & chairs before you ever get to the water. There are some “Oceanfront” where the ocean is so far you cannot even see the waves. At the Chautauqua, the ocean is right there.

Third, there are No Cars. This is a major distinction. Imagine trying to play paddle ball with cars continually passing by & having to be on constant baby alert. Not while you are on vacation!

Next, the beach is wide, level & private - Some beaches are very narrow & steep. It's almost impossible to ride the waves. But the locals consider The Chautauqua the Best Surfing around. There is a Surf shop with lessons & rentals right at the end of our street. They have the Webcam on my house but you can have plenty of fun with the boogie boards we provide for free. No need for Rental. Plus No High Rise condos either! All single family near by.

WANT MORE HOUSE DETAILS?

THE CHATAUQUA - The name we took from the legal description which we loved once we learned how to pronounce it. It was originally a place for Intellectual Retreat. There is still a Chautauqua in New York. Then it was a Beach Club. I have original photos and Buy Laws. So it is a true CLASSIC Cedar Shake 1926 CRAFTSMAN BUNGALOW. It starts with the Great room - 24 foot long – which acts as the main focal point of the house from which the 4 Bedrooms flow. I fell in love with it the minute I saw it and knew I had to restore it to is former glory. I think we even surpass it. We kept the original 1926 quarried Coquina fireplace (now with lovely electric flames). It is REAL Coquina - not what they make houses of now - Just like the Fort you will see in Old St Augustine! The Bead board wainscoted is also from the original house, carefully removed and planed. The floors are original Heart of Pine, sanded back to their original glory. They don’t even grow wood like that any more. Even the interior doors, all 8 foot, were patterned after the originals. There is loads of molding, all “in period”, specially milled. We even found the old picture mold with hooks for hanging photos instead of nails.

Then we started adding the NEW touches. A state of the art Gourmet Kitchen. Full wood Cherry Mission cabinets with tumbled marble backsplash and gorgeous sea scape metallic tile accents. The most unusual Granite I had ever seen. It is wonderful. Looks like sand. The Main Kitchen includes Double Ovens, Microwave, Stainless Farm Sink and large Eating Bar and Honed Chisel-edged Stone floors. Downstairs is a second complete Kitchen, so plenty of room. Both with a full array of cooking tools, dishes, pots and pans. And 2 Laundry rooms with ironing facilities.

FOR ENTERTAINMENT - A PIANO & POOL TABLE. You have to have a Piano at a beach house. Guitar and Game Tables also. I am big on games so there are lots of Board Games. Rummikub being our Family Favorite. Please try it. Call for instructions if you need. And Upstairs is the POOL TABLE and Wet Bar with microwave for popcorn of course.

3 PORCHES - The front porch is probably one of the best assets. This is where you will spend most of your time so there is LOTS of seating - All Teak Wood. We have Rockers & Adirondacks, benches & 2 sets of table and chairs – one on the porch and the other on the Patio. There is also 2 outdoor showers and a Grilling area with both gas or charcoal grill. There is also an Upstairs Balcony off the Pool Table room and a 1st Floor Stone Covered Patio. Both with more seating and dining areas.

4 SECOND FLOOR BEDROOMS –

There are 2 OCEAN FRONT MASTERS both with full Stone Bathrooms. The first with a Cherry Sleigh Bed features a Coral Stone Bathroom. Off-white shell stone floors and walls with black stone accents and cabinets. It includes an antique CLAWFOOT Tub complete with new Nickel fixtures and hand shower. Plus a RAIN SHOWER with BODY SPRAY, Two vanities with granite tops and gorgeous Kohler farm sink faucets, wonderful Nickel light fixtures and private water closet. The other Master with West Indies style Canopy Bed features a bath of taupe colored stone with inset blue glass, a SOAKING TUB/SHOWER combo, White Cottage Vanity with matching Storage Cabinet, Granite tops and Stone Vessel Bowl sink. Also done in Nickel fixtures.The 3rd Master also comes with a Private Bath. The walls are Bead Board with the bath done in an old fashion mosaic stone rug pattern and subway stone shower and wainscot. Unique circular white vanity with stainless accents and matching mirror plus White Storage Cabinet. Room for loads of Towels and everyone’s tooth brush no matter the number.

Bedroom 4 is also Bead Board wainscot with a Queen bed. It uses the Powder room and the Bonus Room Bath. All Bedrooms come with TVs for your convenience. Most with DVD players. Even the 3 Sleeping Berths upstairs in the Bonus come with TV and DVD players for the Kids Games. Plus 2 Wireless Internets

5 BED BONUS ROOM – As good as the Main 2nd level is, most would agree that the 3rd floor BONUS ROOM is the show place. Whereas the adults will enjoy it for the view & Pool Table. For the kids, it is the SLEEPING BERTHS they will be fighting over. There are 3 Single compartments complete with individual reading lights, TVs, DVDs, and under bed Storage Drawers for all their “stuff”. You will have to pull the away to get them down to the beach. Plus a Full Futon Alcove that doubles as a bed and extra couch/play area.

But the Bonus Room is more than just a place to sleep. It is a place to “HANG”. There is a full size POOL TABLE and WET BAR with antique corner sink and microwave for late night popcorn. The bath is a classic. All white subway tile with mosaic floor and glass inlay band. The sink looks like a piece of furniture with Granite top & white Vessel Sink. Currently there is also a comfortable double recliner leather couch but we are in the process of replacing with a Twin Day Bed that I think will give you more options and an added bed. And an

UNSURPASSED VIEW. With an arched Covered Porch recessed into the house for sun and wind protection, you can enjoy the view from another teak table and chair set and take some quite time to read a book from The Chautauqua’s LIBRARY.

FIRST FLOOR OPTION -

Downstairs is a complete separate rental with its own Greatroom, Kitchen, Garage, Laundry, Oceanside Decks & Outdoor shower. It has 2 bedrooms and 1 bath. The Master is Ocean side with Queen bed and sliders out to a Covered Porch. The Second Bedroom has a Queen bed and there is a Pull Out Queen Sofa in the Great room.The look is different but charming in its own way. All STONE FLOORS, even the walls on the Porch.

Why Linda Bayles chose St Augustine Beach

In 2005 I walked into a 1926 beach cottage direct oceanfron on St Augustine Beach and knew I had found my calling. I wanted to 'Create' a vacation space for Families. Large extended families. A place were Cousins, Grandmothers, Uncles and Aunts can comfortably come together to reconnect and enjoy each other away from the demands of the outside world.

I come from a large family of 5 children as does my husband, Brad. Some of my fondest memories are when we all got together to just 'hang out' for 3 or 4 days. The little ones always come up with a 'play'. The adults always congregate in the Kitchen passing down the 'Family Recipes' to the next generation and playing Games. We are a big Game playing family. Specifically Rummikub . If you have never played, you should. I make sure there is one in each house and once you are hooked and have one of your own, hope you will think of your St Augustine stay every time you play. (Call and I will give you the rules)

So I bought that 1926 Craftsman, gutted it and turned it into The Chautauqua which sleeps 21. It has been a rewarding success.

In 2011, my Father expanded the tradition and bought 4 homes on 3 Oceanfront lots. We could not believe our luck and spent the next year remodeling them into The Seaside Cottages. We just put them on the market in June 2012.

Now I manage all 5.

The Best part is not only the houses but the BEACH. There are only 18 streets on the “Best Beach” - No cars. No Catwalk. The ocean right at your door. Everything within walking distance…. And we now have homes on 2 of the them!

I hope you will come stay with us and create memories you will cherish for a lifetime. Then I will consider it a success.

Wonderful property with all of the amenities to make our stay comfortable. Location is perfect! The kids LOVED visiting the beach each and every day. What a magnificent home! We had the greatest experience at Chautauqua. We rented the top 2 floors for 3 couples and 2 children, and couldn't have been happier. The view and beach are amazing. We had coffee and dinner on the porch every day, which was the epitome of Florida relaxation. My chef-sister loved the ammenities in the kitchen. The beds were super comfortable, and the upscale bathrooms made us feel like it was spa-time every morning. Another reviewer compared it to Pottery Barn, which my mother also had said. It is very close to historic St Augustine, where we went several times. I highly recommend Opus39 for fine dining there. There are also cute places just down the street (Mango Mango Grill), for take-out or a more casual dining experience (i.e. with children). My daughter still talks about wanting to go back to "the beachhouse" (she's 2), but that sums up how our entire party felt. We will definately be back!

Clean property in the perfect location

The property was spotless when we arrived and the view from the porch was perfect. The house actually came with a lot of extras like boogie boards, games, books, towels, two bbq grills etc.

Location is perfect. The beach is outside your back door and there are plenty of restaurants and bars within walking distance. Publix grocery store is a mile away. Fully stocked kitchen so you can cook anything you want in there. The beach comber is next door and has great food and a good beer selection. A1A tacos is at the end of the street and is also very good vacation food.

Overall this property was perfect and I will be booking again for my next trip to st Augustine beach.

Our family's jaws dropped when we walked into this gorgeous home. Everything immaculate and beautifully decorated. Most well stocked kitchen we have ever seen but we were all so excited about the great restaurants we could walk to that we never wanted to cook! Can't wait to return!!

Linda was great to deal with and always replied quickly. We rented the whole house which included 2 King beds, 4 Queen beds & the bonus room upstairs had 3 single beds and a queen or full bed not sure which size...and also a futon. Plenty of room for everyone!

Downtown St. Augustine– Explore the Oldest City in the US. Take a horse drawn Carriage ride – enjoy the historic sites – the Castillo de San Marco - the Oldest School. There will be a scrap book at The Chautauqua for you to look through. Alligator Farm– Actually very well done. YMCA just around the block for workout facilities

Miniature golf just down the street - Anastasia State Park – Great place for windsurfing, fishing & bike riding on the sand. Rentals available. Surfing - Seriously this is where all the locals come to surf but they are not the 'California' crowd. All very friendly. You can get surf lessons at the end of the street from Pitt Surf Shop. Rentals available. Deep Sea or Intercoastal fishing - parasailing/jet-skiing - Antiquing - Great for browsing & reasonable. Outlet malls - Golf - TPC or World Golf - Marineland - Disneyworld

Other Activities: Best surfing beach in area with lessons and rentals at end of street

Golf: Loads of GOLF options.

Close by is Royal St Augustine on US16 with very reasonable rate.

The renowned World Golf Village is nearby at exit 323 off 95.

Famous Ponte Vedra TPC in Sawgrass is about 30 minutes away.
