Quiet, cozy get away

  • 5 of 5

My family of four stayed at the Douglas Guest House in August this year. Although it is a studio apartment, there was enough room for the four of us to spread out. It was helpful that we were out exploring Juneau most of the day. The apartment is on Douglas Island, a short drive across the Gastineau Channel from Juneau. This was not a problem for us as we rented a car during our stay. The apartment was clean and had enough linens for all the beds and for bathing. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes, utensils and cookware which made it easy to cook breakfast and dinner. The apartment is located close to the ruins of the Treadwell Gold Mine and we enjoyed visiting the area. If we return to Juneau we would definitely stay there again.

Peaceful and comfortable

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at the Douglas Guest House. It's location is very convenient to hiking on the Treadwell Mine Trails; which are extremely interesting and fun. The pizza at the pub and the sandwiches at the Cafe on Douglas Island can't be beat! We were very comfortable and enjoyed the quiet after being out and about all day!

Wonderful place to stay in Juneau

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful time staying in the Douglas Guest House! Juneau/Douglas Island is such an amazing place! The Guest House was very clean with very comfortable beds. It was a nice quiet and cozy place to return to after a day of exploring. I was amazed that there is a waterfall less than 5 minutes walking distance away from our front door! I would recommend this property to my friends or relatives. As other reviews mentioned, having a rental car was helpful. Having access to the laundry facility was also very helpful as we stayed here on the second half of our trip.

Cozy, quiet, cubby hole

  • 3 of 5

Clean, good bed, well furnished, compact place at the end of the road in Douglas, Alaska. Dark and quiet in winter time. Only issues were no GFI outlets in kitchen so you have to put toaster on the floor of dining area to make toast. Also a bit odd to have owners personal photographs in the bathroom.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. There is a gfi outlet located in the dining room that is accessible from the kitchen counter. Any electrical kitchen appliance can be set on the kitchen counter and plugged into the gfi outlet in the dining room.

Great for travelers with car and smartphones

  • 4 of 5

The Douglas Guest House was comfortable and well-appointed for our family of three on our week-long stay in Juneau. I agree with the other reviewers about the quality of this studio apartment. The beds are comfortable, and the kitchen is well-stocked enough to cook in. I would definitely advise those renting this property to rent a car as well, since one can get a bit wet waiting in the Juneau rain for the city bus--though busing is doable, with a stop a couple of blocks down the hill. The brief ride into Juneau to tourist attractions, etc, is pleasant. (We recommend the tram ride up Mt. Roberts and the restaurant at the top!) Within walking distance of the Douglas Guest House, there is Sandy Beach and the Treadwell walking trail, near the site of the old Treadwell Mine, for hikes or strolls. Really the only difficulty for our family was that we have old cell phones from the pre-smartphone age, so we were unable to download the owners' app and thus not able to get information or to communicate as easily as would have been ideal.

Directions from Juneau airport to Douglas Guest House

Exit from airport and stay on that road until you merge onto Egan Drive. It is a 4-lane highway and you will be heading south towards downtown Juneau.

Stay on Egan Drive for approximately 7 to 8 miles.

You will head into town and the speed limit will drop to 45 m.p.h.

You will pass 2 boat harbors on your right and then come to a traffic light.

Take a right here on 10th Street, crossing over the Gastineau Channel on the Juneau-Douglas bridge.

At the roundabout, take a left to the town of Douglas.

This road is Douglas Highway.

Go about 2 miles to the town of Douglas.

The road changes to 3rd Street.

Go through town and it comes to a Y.

Veer to the right onto St. Ann’s Avenue.

You will head up a hill and go to the end and take a right onto Treadwell Street. The sign has been missing for a while. But it is the last road on the right before St. Ann’s ends in a parking lot.

Go up this steep incline and take a left onto 5th Street at the top.

Take your next right onto Laurel Dr. and go up this hill taking a sharp left onto 6th Street.

Take 6th to the end and you go right into our cul-de-sac.

Our duplex is on the left and you can park at the first parking curb to your left (just to the right of the carport/garage.)

Enter at the main entrance (to the right of where you park). You will go down the concrete steps onto the main deck. Veer to the left and go down one set of stairs to the first landing. You are at the Douglas Guest House! WELCOME!
