Tony Romas Steakhouse is just around the corner and kids eat free on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Be sure you also try the very delicious Kobe burger at Waikiki Burger restaurant right across our building. Also try the yummy Poke salad (salmon sashimi) at the Japanese restaurant on the first level of our building.

Great location Great accommodation

The six of us enjoyed the place so much. It's close to the beach, shopping, restaurants etc. The accommodation was great had plenty of room. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. Highly recommend this place.

Love love love this beautiful penthouse condo. Was a bit apprehensive about booking this place wirh the age of the building when I read the rarlier reviews. As I read more about the convenient location, great views, updated interior and cleanliness, I decided to book my dream vacation here. I must admit that as we first arrive and saw the building, I did doubt if I made the right decision to book this place. I was relieved to see that the penthouse units had a separate elevator that can only be accessed with our condo key to the 42nd floor. When I open the condo door, my jaws dropped when with the 270 degree panaramic Diamond Head, canal and Waikiki ocean views. The unit was elegantly updated with hard wood floor and modern kitchen. The interior walls seems to have been recently painted and the bathrooms showers floors looked sparkling new (btw, I am a clean freak and can't stand dirty bathrooms).

Really enjoyed soaking in the oversized bathtub with some wine each night after the long day. Also loved watching the Friday night Waikiki fireworks from the dining room 42nd floor!! Love love love this place and will definitely come back again!

I always appreciated travelers sharing their travel tips so here is mine:

5 am sunrise hike at Koko Head Trail. 1048 vertical steps up to reach the summit. If you are relatively fit, you can reach the summit in 40 min. Enjoy the surreal sunrise at the summit with incredible 360 ocean views and Haunua Bay. Stop by nearby Haunua Bay and the famous Blow Hole lookout before head back to Waikiki for breakfast.

Lanikai Pillbox trail sunrise hike. You absolutely can't miss this relatively short but steep hike to the bunker. The sunrise rays reflecting on the ocean between the two mokes will take your breath away. Steep but short decend to the base. Stop by Pali lookout before heading back to Waikiki for Lenard's Bakery for Masalada and coffee for breakfast.

Chinaman's Hat sunrise and Kaulua Ranch (where the famous Jurassic Park was filmed). Many beautiful beaches along the coast.

Makapu'u Lighthouse sunrise hike. Arrive just before 5 am to catch the sunrise at the summit. Easy paved hike all the way.

Other must do's:

Punch bowl swap meet to get lots of local sourvenirs.

Diamond Head sunrise hike awesome ocean and Waikiki city view

North shore Giovanni Shrimp Truck and shave ice

Honolulu Kitchen Monapuas (try all flavors)

Costco for macadamia nuts and Kona coffee to bring home

We very much enjoyed our stay at the Hawaiian Monarch & would recommend it to our friends & Family

The Hawaiian Monarch was a wonderful introduction to Oahu, Hawaii. After a very long flight we were grateful that the apartment was only a 20 minute drive from the international airport.

The instructions to receive the key to enter the apartment were clear and precise and the lifts are accessible from the street or the reception of the hotel that is located at the bottom of the apartment building.

When entering the apartment the views of Oahu are breathtaking. The apartment was clean and all bedrooms/bathrooms were as described. We are a family of 4 adults and one baby, so the apartment was a good size to accommodate us all comfortably. The apartment was stocked with minimal amenities, beach towels, ironing board and a washer/dryer which came in very handy during our stay.

The owners provided us with a baby cot, high chair and plenty of toys for the baby which was very appreciated.

The only two negatives for us was the Wi-Fi, which continually dropped out throughout our stay and made it difficult to receive and send emails for our business. Also, the beach is a 15 minute walk from the apartment, should you choose to go to the beach regularly. The apartment was centrally located for us, as we enjoyed going to the Ala Moana Shopping Centre and downtown Waikiki where all the shops and restaurants are located. There is a 7/11 downstairs and an ABC shop across the road which was very convenient.

Communication from the owners was clear, prompt and efficient. We very much enjoyed our stay at the Hawaiian Monarch and would recommend it to our friends and family back home.

Great location and views. 10 minute walk to the main street and the start of the action.

The building is a bit old and dated, but overall we found it to be adequate for our needs. It's nice and close to the main shopping street and a 15 minute walk to Waikiki beach. Enough essentials were left in the apartment to get us going upon our arrival. There is a 7 Eleven quite close to get the basics and ABC shops close by for groceries etc. The sofa bed, although comfortable, did not fold out flat at the bed head end. We arrived early and the building security people allowed us to store our luggage for a small fee. We would recommend this apartment to anyone who doesn't want fancy and new, we were very happy with what we got for the tariff.

We will expedite a service on the sofa bed mattress and do corrective measures which should be an easy fix. For our readership who use "reviews" as an extra tool in making a decision to stay in our Penthouse 402 (PH402) on the 42nd Floor need both ends of the spectrum. The photos that seen on our ad are real photos and not enhanced in anyway. When you arrive, you will see actual decor, wood floor, stainless steel appliances, granite counter tops and of course the panoramic views! This is truly a beautiful unit! We thank you for mentioning the location.....everything you want in a vacation stay......walking distance to the beach, stores, entertainment and shopping too! Having to search for a stay with all of our offering will find suites at Hilton and Sheraton Hotels which is substantially higher in price ($600-$800 per night). You will be paying for it's overall building which has the fabulous lobby's. This is all part of what you will pay for....So, your comment of our tariff in comparison is accurate. You are getting a bargain staying with us! We are presently making improvements which gives our future guest a confidence in our goals in receiving 4 to 5 Star reviews! Just think we were a "flip of a sofa bed mattress pad" in getting a 4-5 star review! All the best, Rick

Wonderful view but with drawbacks

There was a mix up to being able to get into the property which was hard to take after an exhausting trip from the UK. The views are stunning but the property is a little tired and in need of a refurb. It was not as clean as I would have expected. It was a good location to walk into town. We had a car and the parking at the hotel was very expensive at 25 dollars per day. There wasn't as good a view of the fireworks as I had anticipated from the description given.

To help our readership, I copy and paste to respond to specific concerns: 1. "There was a mix up to being able to get into the property which was hard to take after an exhausting trip from the UK." reply: Check In Instructions is given about a week prior to arrival. For about 4 years now in offering this as a vacation rental we have made "check in" as a "self-check in". We also preregister guest with the building security office which is available 24/7 to assist in any programming of key card if needed. But, this being said, we offered to do a courtesy "meet and greet" to help you. The call was made upon your arrival and we got there within 15 minutes or less finding out you did manage to get your card keys in the lock box and got in your Penthouse unit with no problem. So, I went up to your room to check if you made it in ok. Which I am glad you managed. Good job! 2. "The views are stunning but the property is a little tired and in need of a refurb. It was not as clean as I would have expected." reply: Thanks for mentioning about views which makes the unit special. You can change the interior of the unit, but you can not change it's views! Views of the Ocean, Diamond Head Crater, the Ala Wai waterway and city is unsurpassed and probably one of the best views in Waikiki! It is an upgraded unit with most of the main areas like the new flooring, kitchen is completely upgraded with new cabinets, granite counter tops and stainless steel appliances, and walls painted with a nice color scheme that is soothing, and also new sofa bed in living room that is stylish (with a comfortable mattress). This was a substantial cost and not just touch up work. But, your mention of rehab has some merit where we can always improve even on the improvements. Regards to cleaning, we take very seriously and now do not depend on the cleaners only. We have a dedicated inspector who is doing a 45 item check list. Just think, we are not "Trump Tower" (by any stretch), but does not hurt to try! 3. "It was a good location to walk into town. We had a car and the parking at the hotel was very expensive at $25 per day." response: Most hotels charge $30-$45 per day and only valet (they expect a tip every time). 4. "There wasn't as good a view of the fireworks as I had anticipated from the description given". reply: Seeing it is a bonus!

Just like home

We stayed for one week during March. 4 adults and 1 child.

Check in/out was easy and instructions were easy to follow. Welcome package was on the kitchen counter. The owner also called afterwards to see if there were any questions/concerns.

The unit is just as the pictures show, but it is starting to show some signs of wear and tear. The view is so beautiful and we were able to see the Friday night fireworks at the Hilton. Location was convenient and parking was available for extra fee. There is a 7-Eleven on the same block and also a couple of different dining options in the building.

We used the kitchen everyday and it has everything that you could possibly need. Wifi was good. The unit also has lawn chairs and beach mats for us to use. The washer/dryer was also very useful as we were able to wash the beach towels right after use.

Overall a very pleasant stay.
