Magical Retreat Fall Perfection
Magnificent location to experience the fall desplay on the property and around the beautiful lake.
Great location, but needs updating and Fall cleaning
Julie was a great host in that she was very attentive and responded immediately to our texts and emails. Our first issue was with the Wifi reception but that was due to stormy weather the evening we arrived. After that the Roku and Wifi worked fine. Unfortunately for us, the housekeeper had more than a handful after the renters before us and didn't complete her duties. There was still evidence of their water balloon fights in every room and outdoors! I also was left with a full dishwasher to empty, along with 3 loads of towels and sheets all stuffed together in the dryer that were obviously still damp. It was a good thing I was investigating where things were located and found this on our second day. Needless to say I had an extra 3 loads of laundry to do! The house set-up is great, plenty of space for everyone, but is in much need of updating in the electrical department and bathrooms/kitchen upstairs. The kitchen was not as well stocked as previously stated in reviews and the drawers and cabinets were in such disarray that I re-organized all of them myself to see what we had to work with for the week. Regarding the electrical, the dishwasher that is from the 1970's (w/o instructions on how to start) ended up blowing a fuse and the outlets near it in the upstairs kitchen. When I went to look for a new sponge to wash our dishes they were none under the sink, only used ones and some extra trash bags and other things just haphazardly thrown under the sink. No organization or thought to stock these items. The housekeeper also forgot to dust in many places, windows & curtains not touched all Summer, and had not vacuumed/swept under furniture and/or couches. The amount of dust on the window coverings and blinds was disgusting. The bathrooms each had their issues, but mostly the well water had left yellow stains on the shower/tubs. The shower/tub on main level was a mystery and we thought didn't work, but found out later after texting the owner that you have to pull the knob out then turn for water temperature. Again another thing without instructions and no booklet for the home to refer to either. I was surprised to see a For Sale sign the following day by the lake, but it all made sense after being in the house a few days. I guess the effort is not being put into the home before selling. It's unfortunate because the location and set up of the home are fantastic. We really did enjoy our time. The pups had so much fun in the lake every day.
Hi Sandy, We are glad you enjoyed your time and appreciate your comments so we can improve on the stays of future rentals. We have updated our welcome letter based on your comments. We've now added instructions for the main floor tub. Pull out knob, then adjust the temp. We feel our kitchen is well stocked with dishes, utensils, pots and pans but I will remove spices and condiments because we can't keep up with what our weekly summer rentals use...so just better to say we don't stock it.
Although the dishwasher is an older model, it's only been in use 2 years! I actually believe I have the manual with my manual box in the downstairs closet...but again I will mention where to find it in the letter in case someone else has trouble figuring it out.
My husband did go up and run the dishwasher, coffee pot and toaster. They all seemed to work and nothing tripped the breaker but we will definitely keep an eye on it. I did have my housekeeper go in and do a deep clean..vacuuming curtains etc. Unfortunately, doing weekly turnovers on Saturdays...the basics get cleaned but the extra's sometimes are put off to a slower time but it is a good reminder for us to maybe have her bring a 2nd cleaner on some days. If you can imagine, we can sleep up to 10 people so if renters don't start and finish at least a couple loads of towels...the washer/dryer can be running for 7 hours (which is the time from check out to check in). For those days I wish we had 2 sets of washer and dryers! I will also be adding that suggestion in our welcome letter...to please at least do one load of towels or linens from start to finish. Although we've had our home on and off the market because of personal reasons (not that we don't love it and most of our rentals love it), it's important to keep it up to par for potential buyers so we take any comments seriously! We really appreciate you leaving the home in good shape. Thank you.
Ideal spot for kids and grandkids
This was our third year at the Watsons' house on Lake Eden, which is now full of good memories for us. There is always more than enough room for our big crowd. We love to take turns making meals and canoe around the quiet lake. My grandkids caught some fish off the dock. We made smores over the fire pit. This year my son took his kids to Smuggler's Notch to do some mountain biking. All in all we had a great time. Many thanks to the Watsons for their responsiveness and hospitality.
Hi Christopher, we have enjoyed having your family stay in our home over the years!
Eden Mills getaway
Overall very positive.
Fell in love with Lake Eden
This charming lake cabin couldn’t be in a more beautiful spot. The two kitchens were fabulous for our family. The owners were very helpful as we were there on a blistering hot day. Eating on the porch made great memories. We loved our vacation in the woods
What a wonderful home to stay at! It comfortably accommodated the 10 of us - 6 adults and 4 children. Beautiful location! We will absolutely return!
