We are the Prosser family and originate from London. My name is Julie, my husband is Andy and our daughter, aged 14 is Abbie. My husband and I were both Police Officers in the Metropolitan Police until retirement.
As a family we started coming on holiday to the region about 15 years ago. We fell in love with the area so much that we left the UK four years ago and moved here. Our daughter goes to the local French school . My husband continued to work in the UK until July 2012, when he retired from the Police service. We sold our London home and bought 'Chez Nous' so that we could earn an income and pay into the French tax system. We are now fully integrated into the French way of life. As a family we are living the dream that my husband had when he was a child when he holidayed with his parents in the South of France. My daughter and I speak both English and French and my husband is learning French at the moment. We both enjoy helping others and so holiday lettings was a natural progression for us. The joy for us will be people telling us they had a wonderful holiday and that they want to return to the region. For us this area is a really magical place, both in winter and summer.
Julie Prosser purchased this villa in 2013
We live in Sorede, which is the next village to Saint Genis des Fontaines. We love everyday here and have a very good knowledge of the area and all the local villages. When we started looking for a house to buy for holiday lets we spent months looking at a number of properties. When we looked at Chez Nous we both knew straight away that this was a fantastic house. In a lot of ways it mirrors our own house in that it is in a very quiet location with the countryside a 2 minute walk away and yet it had the practicality of being able to walk into the village for bread etc. The French neighbours of Chez Nous are lovely and they love nothing better than a chat. As soon as you enter Chez Nous the house flows perfectly with lots of natural light. A lot of French houses have a number of small rooms which make them dark. As soon as you sit on the terrace at Chez Nous the peace and tranquility hits you and you relax immediately. We came on holiday to this area by luck many years ago and became hooked on the place. The magic is to do with the deep blue light during the day. We have on average over 300 days of sunshine a year with beautiful sunrises over the sea and lovely sunsets and blood red skies at night. There are clear skies at night where you can almost touch the stars. In summer we eat outside day and night. There are very few mosquitoes to worry about here and so we sit out till midnight most nights.
In the winter we are blessed with the magic of Le Canigou. During the summer months you can't see it because of the heat haze, but as soon as winter comes it appears and grows ever larger as snow envelops it. We never grow tired of Le Canigou and the magic that emanates from it.
If you love the sunshine and clean air, if you love swimming in the sea or in the pool, if you love eating outside whether it be at a local restaurant or at Chez Nous then you will love this area and have a wonderful holiday. one of the joys of Chez Nous is its quiet location. You can head to the busy beaches during the day and come home and relax in peace and quiet
The villa 'Chez Nous' really did feel like chez nous, it proved to be a fantastic place for our family to get together. It is everything the website says and more.
Julie and Andy were so helpful, both before and during our visit.
The village has excellent facilities for immediate needs and is close to fantastic villages, towns, coastline and countryside as well as bigger shopping facilities. Daily walks through the vineyards and fields and friendly neighbours in the cul-de-sac all added to the experience.
We were sad to leave and will definitely return to explore the area more and enjoy the peace of the village and its surroundings.
Thank you Julie and Andy for making our holiday so enjoyable.
This was our second visit to the area and the property matched the description and then some.
The property is spacious, well maintained and very clean, additional features such as Wi Fi, television, DVD and the ability to catch up on the BBC and ITV channels very welcome for all ages.
We particularly enjoyed the pool which is maintained to a very high standard and very welcome with the great weather. We have previously stayed in properties where the garden is little more than dry grass, but the garden here is to be enjoyed at all times.
Both Julie and Andy are the perfect 'hosts' with nothing too much trouble and they are more than willing to help with any information about the area and the local attractions.
The property is literally a five minute walk from the village with its shops to meet the requirements of the daily baguette and pain au chocolate's for the children (and Grandad).
Our Children and Grand Children ventured to the local beaches but to be honest enjoyed the pool and the garden so much they were more than happy to spend most of their time swimming and chilling.
We would recommend this property to anyone thinking of staying in this area of France.

This was out first visit to Chez Nous & certainly won't be our last.
The villa is superb, well laid out and functional, clean, tidy and spacious; there were 7 of us & we never felt that we were falling over each other & we all, including 'young adults', had space to enjoy our holiday.
The pool was a godsend with such hot weather for our 2 weeks & a match of volleyball each evening was a hit with the 'young adults'.
Julie & Andy are very friendly and helpful hosts, nothing we asked of them was too much trouble; their knowledge & advise of the local area & a trip to Barcelona, were much appreciated & very accurate.
We loved the area with the back drop of the Pyrenees and can highly recommend a visit to Collioure, sea kayaking at Banyuls Sur Mer, Argelles beach at 9 am is very quiet, Tour Madeloc, Castelnou, Carcassone to see the Tour De France , Pico Neulos (a walk to the aerials that you can see from the lounge), Fort Saint Elme and Laroque Des Alberes (the chateau has great views and the take away or eat in pizza cafe in the square is great).
We want to return to do more walks in the area & just enjoy a very relaxing & beautiful part of France.
We can highly recommend the 'whole' experience.
The Tilbury family & friends
Our group stayed here during the same week last year and our stay was equally as enjoyable. The house, as immaculate as before now has the additions of mosquito blinds and more games for youngsters. Andy and Julie provide everything you could possibly need for a fabulous stay and nothing is too much trouble for them. May we all wish you the very best for the future.
Our family of 6 persons (2 adults with young people aged 13-20) spent a great holiday at Chez Nous, a beautiful house in a wonderful region.
The house is clean, well planned, with a high standard and is tastefully decorated in a modern style. Several nice terraces around the house and a fresh pool area contribute to an inviting outdoor environment. The pictures don’t do the house justice, it is better in reality.
The accommodation is quietly situated and invites you to both an active and relaxing holiday. Here you can enjoy a day by the pool, walks and bike rides among the vineyards or nature experiences in the adjacent mountains, bathing, interesting towns and cultural sites.
St Genis des Fontaines is an authentic French village with a small shop, bakery, some restaurants and everything is just a 5 minutes’ walk from the house. By car, you are at the beach in 10 minutes and to a larger supermarket in only 5 minutes.
We have earlier traveled mostly in Provence so the region of Languedoc Roussillon was a new discovery for us and a very positive one. We would very much like to return and would happily book the house again!
Many thanks to the hosts Julie and Andy, they make you feel very welcome and they understand the value of good service.
We have just returned from two glorious weeks at Chez Nous. The house is immaculately kept and fully furnished with every conceivable modern gadget that you could require, whether just chilling out and doing nothing or for keeping the kids gainfully occupied. There is an excellent sized lounge and kitchen dinner, with 4 good sized bedrooms.
Outside there is an delightful enclosed garden with a spotlessly clean swimming pool, together with a well tendered garden and lovely outside living space, which includes a large barbecue and plenty of chairs and sun beds to allow you to relax and enjoy that outside living feel, set against a background of perfect blue sky.
Set in a quiet location about a 4 minute walk from the village shops and restaurants, the only sound you may occasional hear is the very distant hourly chime of the church clock, absolutely idyllic !
St Genis des Fontaines is a very pretty quiet village with several restaurants, bars and small supermarkets within walking distance of the house.
Within 10 minutes you can be down on the beach, or in the opposite direction, climbing up in the mountains.
There is plenty to keep you occupied whether as a young family or older adults. Having spent 2 weeks here with my children aged 19 and 21, we all had two fantastic weeks chilling out and having fun, nobody was bored !
Julie and Andy are the most helpful and friendly owners that you could wish to meet and conveniently on hand in the next village.
A stay at Chez Nous is a totally relaxing and delightfully experience in a beautiful corner of Southern France.
We will return !
Welcome to 'Chez Nous' !
Our wonderful Villa is perfectly located in a quiet cul-de-sac in the lovely authentic village of St Genis des Fontaines. It is a 5 minute walk to the village centre and yet open countryside is on your doorstep. Chez Nous' will not disappoint you offering a fantastic holiday villa in a beautiful location.
St Genis des Fontaines is a delightful, authentic village 30 km to the south of Perpignan and only 8 km inland from the Mediterranean beaches at Argeles-sur-Mer, listed in the top 6 beaches in France. The village offers a playground for children, a boulodrome, a trim trail, two tennis courts, cycling and rambling paths and horse riding. There is a market on Tuesdays and Fridays selling local produce. The village is famous for its 10th century Romanesque Abbey, the Saint-Michel. There is a full range of shops; bank, tabac, post office, chemist, doctor, dentist, supermarket, cafes, boulangeries, restaurants and bars. The close proximity of the villa to the Auberge des Alberes means that you can enjoy plenty of the excellent local wine with your meal. You can walk to the local wineries and taste the various wines which are excellent!!
During the summer months most of the local villages put on live music for the entertainment of the tourists and there is nothing nicer that sitting outside to eat an evening meal whilst listening to a live band. St Genis des Fontaines is a Catalan village and as such Sardana dancing is very much part of it's heritage. A list of all known local events will be provided at the villa.
This village sits at the foot of the Pyrenees and is geographically a great location for a holiday for all families. Spend a day sat around the pool reading a novel, or for the more energetic head out on your bike into the mountains and enjoy the fantastic Cols on your doorstep. The Alberes mountains are fantastic for road or mountain bikes and will provide plenty of challenging climbs. Why not punctuate your rides with coffee and a croissant or cycle down to the coast at Argeles sur Mer with its miles of long sandy beaches. If you prefer pebbled coves there are loads to explore as you head from Le Racou towards the jewel of the Languedoc, Collioure. This fortified town on the coast has the most amazing atmosphere at night, with crowds flocking to its outside restaurants. Historically Collioure was made famous by artists such as Matisse, Dali and Picasso. A drive along the beautiful coast road is a great experience and you can stop at the various beach cove villages as you enter Spain for a long lunch of local Tapas or a dip in the Mediterranean sea. If you are feeling energetic then the waterpark (Aqualand) at St Cyprien provides a great day out for all ages, St Cyprien also has a great golf course that you will enjoy.
The beaches in this region are fantastic in that you have such a wide choice. Argeles has a busy beach with fine white sand and activities include kite surfing, windsurfing and sailing. Le Racou is a much smaller sandy beach with a less touristy feel to it. Between St Cyprien and Argeles there are a number of naturist beaches. If you want pebbly inlets and coves to explore then we are able to provide their locations, most of which are quiet and away from the crowds.
Inland, the regional capital, Perpignan (20 minutes drive) is well worth a visit with its excellent shopping, restaurants and the historical Palais de Rois de Majorique. During the summer months Perpignan puts on great music nights each Thursday where the streets are filled with music from live bands and people dancing.
Other great places to visit are Ceret which is another walled town with a great ambiance and is also the cherry capital of France. Chateau Valmy, a hotel and winery which also holds open air concerts during July. Barcelona with its great history and shops can be easily accessed by the fast TGV from Perpignan or Figures in Spain. The Dali museum in Figures is also a lovely day out. In the mountains 'the little yellow train' with it's open top carriages provides a great day out as it slowly winds its way over deep canyons from Villefranche up to Font Romeu ski resort, which is also a wonderful place to walk in the Summer.
Come and join us in the sun at 'Chez Nous' for a wonderful holiday experience !!!
