Overview

About the property

Apartment, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 3.5 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

Just steps away from the Ponte Vecchio, on the “Oltrarno” side of the historic center of Florence, this lovely and elegant home provides all of the comforts of the modern world combined with the rich history of the 15th Century.

This home used to be the 'Forni Reali' or royal bakery serving the Medici and later the Italian royal family when they occupied the Palazzo Pitti. It comprises 130 square meters (approx. 1,399 sq. ft), and has 3 bedrooms, each with private bathroom, a large living room and fully-equipped modern kitchen, small study and additional half bath. The apartment sleeps 6-8 people, and wraps around a lovely courtyard garden adorned with flowers, fountain and goldfish. Decorated both for comfort and charm, the home contains an eclectic mix of antiques and modern furniture.

The apartment has its own separate entrance on the ground floor, only one step up from the street, and is equipped with all necessary amenities, including central heat and air conditioning, satellite t.v. and DVD/VCR player, Internet connection, dishwasher, full size refrigerator, and washing machine. One of the owners is an artist who splits his time between Florence and New York City, and many of his original artworks are exhibited in the home, including large oil paintings in the living room, and frescoes in the bedroom.

The apartment is located on a pedestrian-only street just off a charming piazza. There you will find a famous restaurant and delightful cafe. Just 3-4 minutes away you will find the Ponte Vecchio, and you can walk to the Duomo and Piazza della Signoria in 5-10 minutes. A parking garage is located 1 minute away, and local bus stops servicing all parts of the city are also just minutes away.

Great place, great location!

  • 5 of 5

Phenomenal location in a quieter area across the river away from all the tourists. Yet within a five minute walk to the Ponte Vechio, coffee shop and grocery store. We were very comfortable, except for the fact that the neighbors complained about our use of the air-conditioner. Ended up turning it off for most of the time there except for our last night where we needed a good nights rest for a long trip home. The space was very Florentine, comfortable and useful for a family getaway. Many great restaurants coffee shops and even a little square nearby held a jazz concert on Tuesday night! We were able to just cross the street with our glasses of Vino and enjoy the music. Can’t wait for our return trip to Florence! We definitely will consider renting here again.

Great location!

  • 4 of 5

We loved staying here in Florence. We had live music in the square right outside our door one day. It was a great location and had we felt like we had a lot of room. The only drawback was the wifi was not working for a few days and the neighbors asked us not to run the air conditioning as it made noise at night. Luckily, it was cool at night so it was not needed. My husband is missing the gelato within steps of the apartment. We would definitely stay here again.

Perfect Florence stay

  • 5 of 5

This was the ideal place for us to stay in Florence, across the Arno from the crush of tourists who clog up center of the city. We had tons of room, and a courtyard that separated the sleeping areas. What a luxury to have separate bathrooms! The apartment was fascinating, full of what I assume was the owner's art and steeped in the history of being a 16th century bakery. It was super clean, had a well equipped kitchen, a cafe across the street where we got our espressos and dulce each morning. Plus loads of very good restaurants on the square. We loved it! Thank you Alkan.

An Absolute Delight

  • 5 of 5

Our family trip to Florence was a grand success in large part because of the the apartment which was perfect for our multi-generational family of eight, including two toddlers.

The ambience inside the apartment was very Italian in nature and it was immaculately kept. The amenities as mentioned in its write up were accurate and it felt like a home. The location was excellent for exploring all of Florence. We could easily walk to the grocery store, have a cappuccino in the cafe directly opposite the apartment, and satisfy our gelato cravings with the gelateria two doors down.  It being on a pedestrian street made us feel more secure and safe given we traveled with two toddlers. It felt like we lived in a genuine Italian neighborhood.

Upon arrival, we were met by the manager Veronica who was absolutely wonderful. She not only oriented us to the apartment but also gave us excellent recommendations for restaurants, most of which we ate in and enjoyed. She recommended places for us to visit that were suitable for our granddaughters as well as we adults. Throughout the week, she made herself available via text to address any need or question we had. She helped make our stay in Florence stress-less and delightful.

11/10, 6-stars.What more can be said?

  • 5 of 5

A perfect base for a holiday in Florence. Our family of parents and 2x teens spend 3 wonderful nights here. Everything about the apartment: facilities, location, local restaurants, etc was perfect. Quiet, yet seemingly mere footsteps to everything you could possibly need. Would not hesitate to stay again, or recommend to anyone I liked. Great communication, and very friendly and effective greeting just added to the attraction.
